If Strong is fired this weekend, he and Dooley will end up with almost identical overall records over their three years at the respective UTs.

Considering that that program is flush with cash, Strong inherited some decent talent, Texas has a fairly easy recruiting job in comparison and plays in a less competitive conference, I'd say he did worse overall.
And think about this

We were so very close to hiring him to replace Dooley

Arguing vehemently with someone over a hypothetical opinion they don't hold and merely acknowledge exists and then implying they are mentally challenged.

Great look for you man. Very classy.

Maybe next time you don't understand something I say you can question my sexuality. Sounds like it would be right up your ally.

Again, first comment to you was that I knew you were just acknowleging it existed. From there, it devolved on both sides.

As for the Simple Jack comment, it is referenced here occasionally and I apologize if it offends. Won't use it again.

I'll admit that for parts of our discussion I was obtuse, but in doing so I'll reserve the right to say that you had your own terribly obtuse moments as well.

Again, good night.

No, I'm hanging up! But lol yeah I've had too much to drink and had my moments as well.

Dooley made a bad team worse. Created a pathetic losing culture where guys gave up and had no belief that they could even make a bowl game. Check out the post-game interviews after the Vandy 2014 game with guys like Justin Coleman and Jordan Williams. They were stunned that they were going bowling and had gone 6-6. That was Dooley's legacy.

Charlie may or may not go bowling this year, but I think a good coach who connects with the team could roll into Austin next year and start winning right away. The Vols were toxic when Dooley left.

I think Strong would do fine at an SEC school. He wasn't the right fit there and he kicked off so many players that first year and that didn't help him. I think he would have had a much better record here, recruiting Florida a lot, than he had at Texas.

LOL absolutely yes.

LOLOL no way in hell.

Whoever comes in next will likely clean up in recruiting to finish things out, then field a competitive team next year, and academics are in order. It will be an attractive destination.

Compared to Dooley where high schools in TN and the tri-state area were ignored completely, the cupboard was bare of enough talent to compete with mid-tire P5 teams, we were in dire straits with our APR, and every coach we offered except for the guy looking to jump to Colorado said "hell no."

I remember Dooley telling Palardy "don't f*** this up" before every kick.

He told all former players they had to schedule an appointment to see practice.

He didn't recruit Middle Tennessee players worth a crap.

He went with a guy who never had been a coordinator before to coach defense. Oh and switched to 3-4 in a pivotal year in his career.

By all accounts he was a prick. One former Vol told me he would never send one of his players to play for him. Same player said he hoped we lose so he gets fired.

We were facing a bowl ban because of academics and nobody except for Butch Jones wanted to coach here.

Texas will have their pick of pretty much any non-Saban/Harbaugh/Stoops/Meyer coach they want and could be one of the better teams in their conference with good coaching next year.

I never thought Strong would struggle so badly at Texas. I figued he would settle in and eventually turn them around. In the end though, I think its uncamny how similar he has been to Dools, in almost every respect.

I'm no fan of Dooley. And, I can't disagree with the faults you've pointed out about Derek.

However, I'm just comparing the two situations. Dooley walked into a mess and just made it worse.

Strong's predecessor had one losing season in 16 years. Strong is on track for three in three years (with his best being 6 - 7, just like Dooley).

Strong walked into a good situation and the program has regressed ever since.

Guy was definitely a douche. I know a guy that worked for the program back in the Dooley disaster. He told me about one off season he had planned a vacation over the holiday break. Dooley calls, and says there's a surprise mandatory meeting the morning he's supposed to fly out, and anyone not there was immediately terminated. So the guy calls and cancels his flight, shows up, and no one is there. He calls Dooley, and asked where he was, to which Dooley replied "I had to test you to see if you were loyal"
