I'm not familiar with all the players on the 2011-13 candy defenses. But my guess would be they were a much more experienced defense and weren't playing with only 1 of their top 4 DT's

Also love that my autocorrect keeps switching vandy to candy

The goal EVERY year should be East /SEC champion.

You win the SEC you play for the National Championship.

Butch is trying to not sound disappointed.

I agree with your take on the defense. I'd also add that confidence goes a long way and this defense has no confidence right now. You almost sense that they dread it when the other team lines up to run the football - they look like they know they will fail.

But it wasn't always this way. I really thought the defense was coming around after the first half of the VT game all the way up through the Florida game. We stuffed the run really well in that stretch. We had good stretches in the Georgia and Texas A&M game too, but then the team started wearing down.

Against an SEC team that has spanked us repeatedly.

I swear, I love this board but sometimes wonder how people can be so absolutely miserable about EVERYTHING.

You know what else is disappointing? Vol fans complaining when we have a chance to win 9 games in a season for the first time in a decade and not praying we beat Candy to get bowl eligible.
Am I disappointed that we didn't win the East...yes. But I'm happy we made it this far and still have a chance to improve on reg season wins for the 4th straight year (10 with a bowl) with the worst year of injuries in college football history.

Yeah you're still struggling here. I'm not sure what you were trying to convey in the bolded part. Maybe try taking some deep breaths and having your little cousin proof read for you or something.


If you were saying we couldn't win the east and end up with 5 losses, then you're wrong. 9-3 + 1 loss to Bama + loss in the Citrus Bowl = 9-5. Math, bro.

I never said that getting to Atlanta isn't better than the alternative. Your poor reading comprehension led you to infer that I did.


All I've been saying is that a 10-3 season most likely gets spun more positively than a 9-5 season where we lucked into Atlanta. If you want to disagree with that, try engaging the argument I've made instead of engaging the argument you wrongly inferred that I made :stop:

Get your last point; But it makes him sound silly and like he should not be our coach. Own the results, talk about how the injuries impacted us, and how that should always be our goal. It's a poor answer

Yep - and his team still has a lot to play for this year and he knows it. He doesn't want them to pack it in.

I also think he's wary of the media backlash if he admits failure. But I think it's a lose-lose proposition. You say what he says and it sounds like's he's content with 8-4 or 9-3 seasons. You say you and your team failed and you're going to revisit everything and make big changes, then it sounds like you've lost the handle and are panicked / overreacting.

As much fun as seeing orange in Atlanta again would be, Florida did us a favor. Imagine how many yards Bama would roll up on us the second time around.

I'm not speaking with any confidence or knowledge at this point but it would not surprise me one bit if Butch Jones is not the coach of the Vols next year. I just have a feeling.

This. If he actually believes that and doesn't have the SECE as his goal every year, he needs to leave now. There's just no way that's the case though, so he's just insulting everyone's intelligence.

Lots of built up frustration on this board due to the last 10 years and I filled expectations. We will all be positive again tomorrow...

Dobbs is/was amazing tonight. O Line got better in second half. Kelly is a stud, Barnett always brings it, King Kong read a screen for a pick six.
