I'm stoked we beat Georgia, and I think the better team won. But to call a hail Mary play anything other than lucky is just dumb. It's a lot different than a receiver catching a TD on a designed route where (Foreman) plays awful defense.

Ya I have to agree. Maybe not entirely all luck like an unforced fumble, but certainly equal parts skill and luck at least.

Had a dream last night that Florida somehow beat LSU

Don't bother

Same cats who wouldn't accept moral victories for near losses claim moral losses for close victories.

Ain't nobody taking those wins away, no matter how many plays you try to erase

The funny thing about this luck discussion is that it was started because someone said we'd still lose 2 games with a full roster because we got lucky to win a few of the games.

If you have several starters not injured, you actually need less luck to win the games because the overall play of the team should be better. So if we were lucky to win with injuries, it stands to reason we'd need less luck to win without the injuries.

The initial construction of the argument was flawed.

Normally, I'd totally agree, but Jennings is 2/2 in hail mary plays. He's either the luckiest receiver I've ever seen, or there is a good bit of his skill set that translates into winning jump balls.

That said, there is still a modicum of "luck" involved because it is a pretty uncontrolled play by design.

Jennings has some skills that translate well to catching Hail Mary's. That much is pretty obvious. You basically need to commit pass interference against him to ensure he doesn't have the best opportunity out of everyone on the field to catch it.

Had Lightskin LeRoy not trotted into the endzone we would've won with ease. Guess we should count that as a lucky play for Georgia.....😎😎😎😎

I'm wondering if the deal with Jack Jones is more that by not starting him, they can put him in as both back up guard and back up center. Thought I read where he was working both this week.

I tend to think there was an element of luck at the end of the Georgia game.

First was the 15 yard penalty on Georgia after their touchdown. It gave us an extra 15 yards when they kicked to us. Without that dumb penalty, who knows?

Second was the Hail Mary at the end of the game. I don't know the stats but that play is pretty much a lucky play. I really doubt that play results in a TD very many times. Georgia had at least 6 or 7 guys in the end zone---all of them were behind Jennings. That has to be luck. If 1 Georgia player had been in front of him, who knows?

Completely disagree on the end of the Georgia game being luck.

Ive never thought a Hail Mary was luck unless it involved a tip, someone falling down, etc.

There was nothing lucky about Jauan going up and grabbing that ball. He made a play.

i agree the only lucky part was the penalty on the kick. after that berry return, oline blocking, dobbs pass, jj's catch was all design and skill.

Personal opinion here, but I'd guess the club hand has more to do with it than anything. He may have played OK with it, but I've got to think a player with even close to the same level of play is going to be an advantage when he's got all his phalanges free to frolic.

Using your hands for leverage is extremely important in the trenches.

Did anyone notice how much ESPN commentators were jocking Louisville last night even though they were getting stomped all game? If we were in that position they would be blasting us.

I don't call it luck when we capitalize on the other team's errors. Georgia gave us 15 free yards on a stupid penalty and then positioned themselves horribly on the hail mary. That's not luck. That's Georgia losing the game.

Weird bounces, deflections, some fumble recoveries - those are things that I think can be driven by luck. Actually think we were luckier against Georgia LAST year, when Daniel's punt took a sudden left turn and pinned Georgia three inches from their own goal line. But IMO winning the game on a hail mary because of the other team's mistakes is just outplaying/outcoaching the other team on the most important play of the game.

That was a one on one play. Have you not watched our guys get beat one on one all year? Call it what you will but the Hail Mary was truly lucky.

I'm sorry but that hail mary was more of UGA not knowing how to defend it than actual luck.

Who puts a DE in to defend a Hail Mary? Dude may be tall, but when has he ever been asked to high point the ball in the end zone? The was a dumb move by UGA.
