Butch makes me nothing but mad now

Haha, orangecat, you're a moron. Yes, enjoy it. It's football. We have a team. They wear orange. They go out and play games. When we win those games, we enjoy them. That's true whether it's Bama or Vandy or Tennessee Tech. That's how it works. You enjoy when we win.

(in b4 - the "just enjoy the damn win." no, you don't have to bask in the glory of beating an ovc team when you should be in play-off discussion!! Go win the nit and have fireside chats with cuonzo. Bring hot chocolate.)

i think everyone has to share the blame on the jalen hurd fiasco but i think the guy making $4m per annum has earned the right to shoulder the vast majority of the blame. Any real coach would have done something about it.

I'm so sick and tired of this paper tiger offense. We know how quickly it will fold like a cheap tent in the wind against even a mediocre sec defense. Will vandy completely shut our game down? I said arkansas was the measuring stick last year - if butch was in the west right now, oh lawdy. He's tenure has marked the weakest the sece has ever been since divisional play. Backing into the east this year makes the 2007 vols look like the 1985 bears. I strongly defended the 2007 team's right to be there; this one will be hard to defend. Will those who absolutely piled-on the 2007 squad show any consistency?

The con-job against northwestern will grate on me forever. I hate everything about that now.

The "eff them all" sideline explosion confirms butch is exactly where boro-vol says he is. Any good coach with real confidence laughs at the boo-birds in that situation - understands that every sec fan base has mouthbreathers, clueless students.

I have been one of butch's staunchest champions that he does everything right monday - friday (i was probably the first to say he's got a lot to prove on saturdays). However, the super, once-in-a-generation legacy class has inflated his monday to friday stats. His recruiting this year, in a banner year for tennessee talent, is demonstrating he ain't getting it done against the top-6 sec teams.

The man and his bsia has fielded two teams that should have competed for the play-offs. Neither will. In any mediocre year for the east, he would not make the seccg. It would almost be fitting for florida and lsu not to reschedule.

Doesn't matter that butch does nothing but make me mad now. I'm not haslam or thunder; i'm just one of the guys who keeps folks employed at the alumni office. I'm trying to think what could make me feel like butch is the man again:

1. Own the jalen hurd situation and give the fans a professional accounting of what actually happened
2. Win out convincingly
3. Lock down this state in recruiting; take no verbals as gold and go win back those recruits
4. Show that the gap v bama wasn't as shocking as we saw in knoxville (if we do back into the seccg)
5. Humble yourself before the fanbase that has given you, frankly, what has been an internship and a lot of ojt in a big-time program for $4m per annum

wow!! Inf***ingcredible!!

I think Butch has the team fired up showing them how crazy our fans are calling for his head and booing when up by 35 points. Hurd may have been a bigger problem than we all realized. I am glad we got Kelly and Kamara and a chance to win the East that TN deserves after beating Fl and uga. Go VOLS.

I think both sides are overreacting to yesterday's games.

Negavols- whyd butch kick a fg that's terrible should be up 50-0, did he just say what I think he said? Thats it fire that mother f#*ker! Bama just gonna stomp a mud hole in our a$$ and walk it dry.

Sunshine Pumpers- did you see John Kelly yesterday? OMG hes going to break NCAA rushing records. Arkansas lost, look out Bama after our dominant performance yesterday we can beat anyone in the country.

Look I get it, college football is full of different emotions every week thats what makes it so great and thats what makes us fanatics. Just take yesterday for what it was, a lot of young players finally got valuable snaps. The starters were enjoying themselves for the first time this season. I'm sure some you took your children to their first game yesterday, man that first time walking in Neyland. Arkansas beat Florida and Kentucky beat themselves out of a shot for Atlanta (cant believe i just said that) and if Tennessee takes care of business then they'll find themselves right in that mix. This is my challenge to you guys, go through the rest of the season with no expectations. Seriously, that's what I'm doing and I actually enjoyed yesterday. Let see how the pieces fall then have these arguments after thr dust settles.

He doesn't owe anybody anything for the hurd situation. Why does he need to own it for a little boy who quit on his team. I think hurd owes us an explanation for why he spread the cancer that he is through the locker room.

Maybe in a " normal" season I could agree with you, however, we have been decimated by injuries this year so I have to give CBJ a mulligan this season. You don't just lose 3 of your best 4 defensive players for most of the entire season in the 4th year of your rebuilding project and expect to beat the top tier teams. If we had Maybin, Sutton and Kirkland we would have beaten A&M and I can assure you the Bama game wouldn't have been a blowout loss. Let's keep it real before jumping ship.

I think we just need to move on. We don't need more of a soap opera than it already is. I think now we all know Hurd was a problem but Butch was trying to manage it and it wasn't working.

I think Hurd as been told how good he was all his life. I also believe Hurd has gotten a lot of bad advice from what would appear to be a split home. I hope he finds what hes looking for and I hope he didn't burn bridges.

Hurd has burnt a bunch of bridges. If he had stayed played hard and got the all time rushing leader record then even if he failed in the NFL he would have had plenty of opportunities in TN. He has hurt his VFL credentials.

:lolabove::lolabove: It was Tennessee Tech

I'm sorry. I must have missed me saying it's a program changing win. No one has said that nor will they. We had backups in for the first half, a depleted line and still maintained a shut out while looking more together than previous games. No, it won't get the attention of recruits. However, it wasnt meant to.

If you really think there's cause to complain, you're just another idiot grasping at straws.

He does not owe fans an explanation of what transpired with Hurd. That is ridiculous expectation. I am sure people higher up was told what happened. Also, you don't throw a player under the bus.

This! How can everyone whining about wanting all the details about Hurd not understand how badly that hurts our team, our coach, and recruiting? No coach worth a d%&n is gonna spill the gory to the media. Don't have to and will not. People need to get over their self importance.

I've been one of the most prescient and insightful posters for years on this board. Again, I can laugh at boo-birds because I know exactly how spot-on I've been for years.

I have legitimately thought for two years that Butch would have us competing for the play-offs. I rightly worried about Saturday coaching from the BSiA. Now it's clear that the BSiA doesn't know how to beat a mediocre SEC defense and has no clue how to handle a championship calibre squad.

Further worries are: will the BSiA be able to bring in another championship squad or did the super legacy class inflate their stats?

It's Year Four. Lots of questions. We out of darkness but have quite possibly hit our ceiling. That ceiling is lower than the HoF coach we fired who routinely had to play Spurrier, Richt, Meyer, and Saban.

When you have to tell your own self that, it means it isn't true. But you should just carry on and continue deluding yourself...

NOW?! You have zero credibility man, you've been anti CBJ for awhile, one of the most virulent as I recall. Go on a date, kiss a girl, better yet, get to second base and brag about it to your friends. Your time just by viewing the sheer size of your original spew could be better spent elsewhere.

I can understand the caveat, "It's just Tennessee Tech" and I even expressed my displeasure of needing garbage time to find an effective punt returner. Trying to use a cupcake blowout win as a stage to bemoan the coach and program...and claim special cognitive powers, is a cry for help. Should save your special stock for the Kentucky juggernaut coming in, that'll challenge your kidneys enough fella. :)

No. I own it and can back it up with years of posts. But being prescient about the Vols is small beer. If y'all want to throw stones and be wrong, no problem.

It's the Northwestern con-job that grates me the most. I'm tired of this offense destroying lesser teams but unable to beat teams without a massive talent gap. I thought we were seeing why Butch actually brought DeBord on-board in the bowl game: to toughen up his "power-spread" for the SEC. I thought the Butch-Bord familiarity was the way for Butch to keep his system while adding the dimensions needed for SEC / personnel.

It was a con-job. DeBord is the Yes-Man. I just can't get real excited about destroying Tech. Vandy could do it too.

Yet, mysteriously, the offense was fine against Florida, a lot of the time against Georgia and Texas A&M.

Blaming the offense is way over simplifying the problem.

It's a simple ego thing. If you sit back and just allow the season to unfold, you won't look smart enough.

I said the same thing, only differently Friday.

You said it gooder.
