(In b4 - the "just enjoy the damn win." No, you don't have to bask in the glory of beating an OVC team when you should be in play-off discussion!! Go win the NIT and have fireside chats with Cuonzo. Bring hot chocolate.)

I think everyone has to share the blame on the Jalen Hurd fiasco but I think the guy making $4M per annum has earned the right to shoulder the vast majority of the blame. Any real coach would have done something about it.

I'm so sick and tired of this paper tiger offense. We know how quickly it will fold like a cheap tent in the wind against even a mediocre SEC defense. Will Vandy completely shut our game down? I said Arkansas was the measuring stick last year - if Butch was in the West right now, oh lawdy. He's tenure has marked the weakest the SECE has ever been since divisional play. Backing into the East this year makes the 2007 Vols look like the 1985 Bears. I strongly defended the 2007 team's right to be there; this one will be hard to defend. Will those who absolutely piled-on the 2007 squad show any consistency?

The con-job against Northwestern will grate on me forever. I hate everything about that now.

The "eff them all" sideline explosion confirms Butch is exactly where Boro-Vol says he is. Any good coach with real confidence laughs at the boo-birds in that situation - understands that every SEC fan base has mouthbreathers, clueless students.

I have been one of Butch's staunchest champions that he does everything right Monday - Friday (I was probably the first to say he's got a lot to prove on Saturdays). However, the super, once-in-a-generation legacy class has inflated his Monday to Friday stats. His recruiting this year, in a banner year for Tennessee talent, is demonstrating he ain't getting it done against the top-6 SEC teams.

The man and his BSiA has fielded two teams that should have competed for the play-offs. Neither will. In any mediocre year for the East, he would not make the SECCG. It would almost be fitting for Florida and LSU not to reschedule.

Doesn't matter that Butch does nothing but make me mad now. I'm not Haslam or Thunder; I'm just one of the guys who keeps folks employed at the alumni office. I'm trying to think what could make me feel like Butch is the man again:

1. Own the Jalen Hurd situation and give the fans a professional accounting of what actually happened
2. Win out convincingly
3. Lock down this state in recruiting; take no verbals as gold and go win back those recruits
4. Show that the gap v Bama wasn't as shocking as we saw in Knoxville (if we do back into the SECCG)
5. Humble yourself before the fanbase that has given you, frankly, what has been an internship and a lot of OJT in a big-time program for $4M per annum

You should get a lot of likes, bravo. Being second in the thread and inviting the sheep is a solid, solid LIKE recipe.

It won't bring back any championships to UT.

PS - stated clearly I'm unimportant and my anger means nothing.

It would be nice if you actually posted something of worth every now and then. But instead same s@#t different day

I've been one of the most prescient and insightful posters for years on this board. Again, I can laugh at boo-birds because I know exactly how spot-on I've been for years.

I have legitimately thought for two years that Butch would have us competing for the play-offs. I rightly worried about Saturday coaching from the BSiA. Now it's clear that the BSiA doesn't know how to beat a mediocre SEC defense and has no clue how to handle a championship calibre squad.

Further worries are: will the BSiA be able to bring in another championship squad or did the super legacy class inflate their stats?

It's Year Four. Lots of questions. We out of darkness but have quite possibly hit our ceiling. That ceiling is lower than the HoF coach we fired who routinely had to play Spurrier, Richt, Meyer, and Saban.

What makes you think Coach Jones didn't do something about it? Hurd may have quit on the team, but Hurd didn't quit the team.

If Coach Jones had laughed at the boo-birds the nega-Vols' heads would have exploded. Some people have their mind made up and have committed completely to their agenda. Besides, he only said what the majority of us would like to say to the constantly negative fans.

Northwestern "con job"? You hate everything about that? I suppose you would be happy had we not gone to a bowl game and beat the piss out of our opponent. . . or, better yet, how about no bowl game at all?

How can you presume to know how a recruiting class will be before it has been signed? Ridiculous.

Two teams that should've competed for the play-offs? Good grief.

You would rather the guys on this team not receive credit for what they can accomplish by allowing the UF-LSU game to be cancelled? Seems about right.

Personally I am glad he has not "humbled-himself" before some of the jack-asses that pop-up when things don't go just how they think they should.

I only hope that, when UT is playing in the SEC Championship Game in a few weeks, all the cry-babies have already packed their things, jumped ship, and refuse to return until there is a new coach. Some of us realize things aren't perfect, but are just tired of hearing the constant and irrational crying.

It's obvious that Butch wants this all to be a family type atmosphere with the fans...local media, alumni..boosters et al ALL buying in and in 100% support of what he's trying to "build". He's admonished the local media on a couple occasions that their speculation and doubt doesn't help the program..with recruits etc. He's also mentioned the fans and how much he needs their support as well. He cares about that stuff. He DOES let negative fan reaction rattle him cuz he wants this to be a 'family' type atmosphere. Fans booing gets to him. Hence his sideline reaction.

On the flip side, I think he does feel as though he has done tremendous things for the program. Often citing how it was such a mess when he got here..and mentioning that building something special would take time.

UT is big time college football...and Butch is getting paid thusly. He MUST produce...and he must understand the angst if he doesn't. Injuries or not.

It is becoming redundant for sure. I wish all the posters with all the answers would apply for the corresponding position(s) they think they would do better at. It's just a shame to be unable to enjoy ANYTHING positive UT does, even going to the extreme of starting this thread after a 55-0 win.. Wow

This is 2 years in a row we've not only given up the SEC east, but a chance at the playoff.

While I do agree with the fact that we should be in a much more favorable situation than we are in now- this is the first game UT play played a full 4 qts of quality football. I don't care who it was against. I don't care it was home. Etc.

All I was looking for in this game was a full game played by UT, and the players looking like a unit ready to battle for one another.

Not only did they accomplish both, they had FUN doing it. Have a beer, sit back, and watch us win out while UF scores 40 points combined the rest of the year while we secure the east. Gbo!

He does not owe fans an explanation of what transpired with Hurd. That is ridiculous expectation. I am sure people higher up was told what happened. Also, you don't throw a player under the bus.

1. He doesn't have anything to own with J. Hurd. Maybe he's above kicking a pompous kid in the a$$ while he's down. From every report insider's are letting out; Hurd quit on the team and the team wouldn't take it anymore.

2. Agreed.

3. Last year's signing class didn't look much better if better at all before signing day.

4. Agreed.

5. See his in game quote " F' em ".

The only thing he could have done better, was not play hurd sooner. It is hard to do that knowing Hurd had good history as a rb. You keep playing him thinking that old Hurd would come back. Don't believe any coach assunes any player will quit midseason, one thing to transfer but just to go full 8th grade and quit, no. I do say that bc Jones is in charge, yes ultimately it's his fault. The issue I have could he had dealt with this better? Don't know if I've ever heard that happening, so my answer is probably but I'm not sure how. Combine that with all of our injuries (pecker head Pollack, who doesn't see the adversity to which we have dealt, such a dumbass) don't know if it's not asking a lot to have jones handle everything at the same time perfectly.

He beat Spurrier and Richt(ran them off). Saban and bama will happen in Atlanta on Dec 3.

Meyer flaked out years ago and can't even win in an easier conference, don't use him as a role model.

Hang in there Eddie, don't cash out yet, there plenty of season left.

Plan D all the way to Tampa.

1. Salary does not indicate a person should take blame. Hurd was obviously toxic as evidenced by this game.

2. it was 55-0. stfu

Will someone please tell the OP that this is NOT a playoff roster. We have zero DT to start a game. We are playing a third string RB as the starter, and are in the 3 deep as starters in a number of other positions. The roster starting the games the second half of the season is no where close to a championship roster due to injuries.

Yes, LSU is going to pound UF into oblivion. But I remind folks that anyone who assumes we are simply going to waltz through the rest of our games is nuts. In a normal year we take KY & Vanderbilt for granted--not this year. KY has great incentive to beat us this year. Didn't see the game but apparently Vanderbilt gave Auburn all they wanted. On the positive side, how about Dormady's first pass right down the middle and smoke'n. Also he had a great pass right on target in the end zone but the receiver couldn't make the catch. Then again, Butch is too stubborn to actually let him play in a game that matters when we need a passing attack. Yes, we should win out but unfortunately we are back to hoping to win. I hope the TN Tech game gave the guys some confidence even though we know Tn Tech was outmatched.
