While I agree... We wanted Hurd to get his touches (prior to the meltdown), we wanted Kamara to get touches, we want Kelly to get touches, we want Dobbs to get touches. We want to feed Jauan, feed Byrd, get Malone involved earlier in the game, feed the TEs.

There's only one ball, and there are only so many offensive plays per game. I agree that Kelly was ready to help this offense before we actually started using him in this offense. But Kamara 20+... Kelly 15+... Dobbs 15... Jauan 10... and so on... eventually, the math doesn't work.

Kamara was getting about 6-8. So the math NEVER worked.

Saw a little of that in every game he's had an opportunity... the hype on this board wasn't groundless. If you want to talk failure from the coaches, not getting him into the mix (even a little) qualifies.

It's pretty obvious now that our staff was coddling a malcontent.

That, combined with ****ting the bed against the cocks, is a fireable offense

If you consider The University of TENNESSEE to be that liberal art college, then you are correct...

:hi:

As was stated, was just making a joke...when upset I used sarcasm and a joking manner to ease my mood. Listening to Rocky Top helps too.

I know you were just messing. I was just messing with you too!

(And, I fugured you were a UT grad.)

Wow. The word is definitely out on him and it's a sorry state of affairs that was totally preventable.

After spending some time reviewing 74's postings in the FF before and after Jalen quit as well as seeing some of the attitudes that have developed in posters that absolutely mirror what he's been pushing for a year and a half, I've come to the conclusion that 74 has been a cancer to this fanbase.

A lot of the complaints about scheme were pushed and pushed by him and his constant refrain for nearly 2 years has been adopted by many. However, 74 had resented the fact that the offense revolves around the QB and not the RB and that should always be the case in CFB. He has bashed Kamara and our other RBs any time someone compliments them and created strife in the fanbase as well as promoted hatred of CBJ on a repetitive basis.

Eventually constant refrains like that have an impact and people start believing it and it's rather obvious when you read his posts and then start seeing it repeated by others. TBH, I think a person like 74 that brings this much drama is baggage I wouldn't want around my team. It seeps out to the fanbase and to the press and creates its own problems. So instead of one drama queen in the locker room you get two drama queens with one of them airing dirty laundry and promoting an agenda against you.

It's utterly insane and I'm still not sure why it hasn't ended. Jalen's gone and everyone involved needs to stop this nonsense. It's like the Crowder 5 all over again but worse.

74 is rumored to be his stepfather, Arthur Smotherman.

They had tunnel vision...it's a weakness. Maybe this is a galvanizing moment and we finally have a driven on the same page team...orrrr, maybe more feces in the sleeping arrangements. :yuck:

It's a tough spot I agree but jones failed here. Now it could buy no coach would have succeeded in this specific instance but no doubt jones is at fault here.

Probably Butch's least amount of experience is dealing with the egos and personalities of five star players.

For all the olders on this board, I compare this crossroads for Butch to Majors in 88. Majors could have folded after losing the 6th game and guaranteeing a losing nonbowl season, but he totally reinvented. Fired Donohue and converted offensive players to defense and vice versa. Seemed like no rhyme or reason but he showed the team he wouldn't tolerate folding. Next season? One loss and he never really looked back. Was a transforming moment for the program. Butch needs to open all possibilities and dump any sacred cows off the nearest cliff. His moment.

Would love to see it. I don't have any faith in it happening, though.

Ya, there's usually plenty of blame on both sides in these situations. The player for being the cancer, but often times the coach could have done things to keep the cancer from forming or could have nipped it early.

Its easy to sit on the outside and judge a situation on how it should have been handled better after the fact but when your in the heat of the battle sometimes we just don't do everything perfectly. Will give him credit for not trashing Hurd in the presser. All we can do is hope CJ learns from what mistakes he feels he made in it handling it. Its his first ride also in a big time league and program. Lord knows how I have regretted how I handled some situations in my own life but I have really tried to handle the next one a little better.

Aight, I'm going to try and be more focused on the game this weekend and talk some actual football. My thoughts are that we desperately need to get CFA some carries this game. Also, get Dormady in for an entire half. Let him throw the ball around the yard and give him confidence.

I already know what we are running as our first O play. Running play behind the LG in strong formation.

I agree. I just don't know who he's going to convince to come here if he's perceived to be on a warm seat at season's end with a new AD and chancellor coming on board. These days, any proven coordinator is going to want a two-year guarantee (minimum) and probably low 7 figures for salary. Will Butch have the authority to put that out there?

Good comparison and post. I agree. One of my closest VFL friends was on that team. Which leads to the major point that some believe and some do not believe Butch will make those same, gutty decisions. I hope he does. He really wants to be a Vol HC. But it is past time to modify the process and open the mind to other possibilities. Phoenix rising stuff.

Give him 2 years to get it right. If he does he will either jump to the NFL or be here for 10-15 years. For now at least he has rebuilt the roster and the program is winning again.

Good post and recollection. Does Butch have the self reflection to look inward, or does he actually believe what he says in his PCs that all is good?

Whatever makes him a decent recruiter needs to sell the individuals. I don't believe he and Shoop are kindred souls, but he got him to buy in. Of course D wasn't Butch's baby...offense is, and requires a convincing cut of the cord along with the obvious opportunity.

Someone call Doug Matthews!

There's a lot of circus barker in there. He does love the show tho.
