You want to believe Hurd's story believe it. I just posted what he said not trying to feed anyone anythng.

I don't believe Hurds story either. I believe it's something between the two. I'm not disappointed that Hurd is leaving. I think the way he's been playing we have better options. I'm disappointed in how this was handled by both parties. No one wins here in the way this played out.

This is what some people believe he'll do after next season. His ego is so large, and he's so totally invested in his system, that he would rather leave on his own terms than be fired. Control freaks can't stand letting others control their destiny. He could win championships in a less competitive conference and some programs are paying big $ to get name coaches. The next AD won't be as hands-off as Hart, and he won't like that.

Butch leaving at the end of the season means he still controls the narrative and his coaching destiny, even if it means going to a lower-tier program with less pressure and lower expectations. UT would come off poorly if he left and he would come out smelling like a rose, especially with a 10-3 or even 9-4 season.

I believe he is referring to Tatum when we didn't have any more OL to go in against Bama.

And he played minimal meaningful snaps in a game that was already lost. So if we throw that game out, we haven't been playing a 3rd string OL and our offense has still been horrific.

It's not going to happen. The Wisconsin coach is one of the few I've ever heard of who quit a year or two before they might get fired. Butch is arrogant enough to believe what he's doing is the right way to do things, and he doesn't believe for a second he'll have a bad year next year, so getting fired isn't a possibility to him.

Who is the third string OL and how many snaps has he had to play because of injuries and not because other OL just aren't playing well?

Well we burned a redshirt a week ago off the top of my head.

We also lost our returning RT for the first month or so. Against bama we were trotting out a scout team by the end of it.

Thomas has been playing hurt from day 1. Jack Jones had surgery.

Our 5* starting tailback decided he was gonna put himself ahead of the team and ride pine during UGA, Texas AM and USC.

This offense has issues, no doubt, and most of them stem from O line play. Injuries there haven't helped.

10-3 in year 4 after taking over a team that got throttled by Vandy would be a success especially after the amount of injuries we have seen this year.

Some on this board need a reality check.

Fair enough (even though winning out is very unlikely because our offense is awful)... But why aren't you concerned with the internal of the program? Clearly something is very wrong

A new AD coming in changes the complexion of the situation though. Hart has probably made it clear that he only expects a competitive football team. Blackburn or whoever the new guy is may put Butch on a short one-year leash with the expectation of winning the East or hitting the road.

Getting fired is pretty damaging for a career. No way Cuonzo ends up at Cal if he gets fired from Tennessee first.

Also, he wouldn't be quitting. He would be taking another job. There are plenty of lower-tier programs that would gladly take Butch.
