You want to believe Hurd's story believe it. I just posted what he said not trying to feed anyone anythng.
This is what some people believe he'll do after next season. His ego is so large, and he's so totally invested in his system, that he would rather leave on his own terms than be fired. Control freaks can't stand letting others control their destiny. He could win championships in a less competitive conference and some programs are paying big $ to get name coaches. The next AD won't be as hands-off as Hart, and he won't like that.
Butch leaving at the end of the season means he still controls the narrative and his coaching destiny, even if it means going to a lower-tier program with less pressure and lower expectations. UT would come off poorly if he left and he would come out smelling like a rose, especially with a 10-3 or even 9-4 season.
Who is the third string OL and how many snaps has he had to play because of injuries and not because other OL just aren't playing well?
10-3 in year 4 after taking over a team that got throttled by Vandy would be a success especially after the amount of injuries we have seen this year.
Some on this board need a reality check.
It's not going to happen. The Wisconsin coach is one of the few I've ever heard of who quit a year or two before they might get fired. Butch is arrogant enough to believe what he's doing is the right way to do things, and he doesn't believe for a second he'll have a bad year next year, so getting fired isn't a possibility to him.
