Going 10-3 is

But I wasn't delusional enough to think this was a NC caliber team like most on this board. With the injuries we have suffered, it is remarkable that we made it to 5-2.

SC was a bad loss obviously. Can't put too much spin on that but there has been a lot of good things happen this year.

Sorry, not going to be grateful for this years 10-3. A couple of nice moments, but last year's 9-4 was much more impressive to me.

Time to go to work. 9-3 (5-3) is disappointing and below expectations, but it also isn't the end of the world, recruiting will be okay, etc. Butch has a big job ahead of him and it starts by blowing the doors off Tenn Tech this week to give this team some positive momentum and confidence. He said that these last four games will define this team. He is right.

Win out and they will go down as a solid team (the best since 2007), and still have a shot at Atlanta, 10 win season etc. Lose again and the wheels might come off on the entire coaching staff/program.

All but one of those are from the defense, which has played adequately well. Injuries are not an excuse.

Adequately well? I disagree somewhat but it's really not fair to judge them because we are completely empty at DT which is how you win in this league.

Relative of mine in GA just sent me a text that the rumor there is we are firing Butch and replacing him with the Mad Hatter.

I hope it works out for him. Appreciate what he's done for the program. Resume pouncing.

Hmmmmmm.....

There's also the fact that Butch has injury excuses to fall back on. He simply doesn't strike me as the type of coach who will flail around in a death spiral until he gets fired. He'll move on before that happens. Just like Cuonzo did.

There's also been plenty of smoke that his wife doesn't like Knoxville and hates the critical fanbase/pressure that Butch is under. Most of us dismissed it, but at this point it seems like every negative rumor ends up being true.

SC was going to be the toughest matchup for us. 1, Muschamp knows how to defend our offense as well as anyone. 2, we have played SC close every year in Butch's tenure.

We will destroy UK. Vandy game will be ugly but we will pull it out.

Muschamp is Butch's daddy. How sad is that?

Hurd will never be an NFL player. And Butch will never be a good coach.

This cheap a** school of ours better find the best AD they can and let him find the best coach to rebuild this mess Butch will leave behind after the 2017 season.

Next year is Dooley 2012 all over again... Enjoy it my Vol brethren.

I still can't wrap my head around the hiring of Debord... What a goofball idiot move by Butch. CBJ will look in the mirror and see Debord's boring face staring right back at him for the rest of his life. WTH was he thinking???!!!

Hurd leaving with 4 games remaining is a b1tch ass move man. Straight up. We're better with AK and Kelly but not the point right now.

Coach Jones and this staff having TWO WEEKS to prepare for this South Carolina team and losing is also b1tch ass move. Indefensible. So fkd.

Lyle better sack up and get this shlt under control or we are gonna be back to the damned BS circus of Kiffin&Dooley

Exactly. What's done is done. Can't change a thing but we can win out finish 10-3 with a Bowl win and still an improvement after all the injuries and disappointments.

I also agree with this. Vandy will be closer than a lot of people will want, but the USCe game has typically been very close. From 247:

The past four years have been decided by a combined 11 points and all but four games have been decided by a score or less since 2000.

I believe everyone knows how to defend our offense.

I've heard similar things. Even heard possible landing destinations.

Rofl, you think our defense has played poorly? Despite the injuries and the offense inability to sustain a drove and keep them off the field? We don't go to a bowl game this year if it weren't for our defense showing up in spite of our offense.

That's not a convincing stat to me, considering that over those 4 years USC has had 3 different coaches, UT has had 2, and the rosters have completely turned over.

The talent disparity should not have made for a close game this year.

What if he took a job at another program for about the same money. Somewhere where it's easier to win. What if he would rather do that than eventually get fired? What if he knew down deep he couldn't win at the level required at Tennessee?

This is what some people believe he'll do after next season. His ego is so large, and he's so totally invested in his system, that he would rather leave on his own terms than be fired. Control freaks can't stand letting others control their destiny. He could win championships in a less competitive conference and some programs are paying big $ to get name coaches. The next AD won't be as hands-off as Hart, and he won't like that.
