We have a big stadium, we play in the SEC, we have a good fan base, and we have some cool plasma TVs in the players lounge.

We have all that, but let's not kid ourselves that we're an elite program. JMO

What sucks is we have EVERYTHING in place to be an ELITE football school.

We have literally every amenity required for top 10 year in year out status.

What do we not have? An AD and coach to bring it to fruition. We, as fans, must expect the best. We financially have the money to be the best, yet here we are, 15 years into obscurity. It does not make sense.

We get some players back and healthy and now we seemingly have removed a big locker room problem.

UK and Vandy are better. We had two weeks to recover and prepare. Not the toughest.

I agree with you overall, but it was not far-fetched to expect to win the East in the SEC. Doing so is now very questionable and pretty doubtful. The SEC East is not good. The only reasonable excuse, IMO, is injuries. But, that is getting worn out, too.

That's the problem. All anybody talks about is Tennessee's past.

There's nothing in this millennium to tell anyone that UT is an elite football program. That makes me sad.

We aren't much better than the other teams in the east when we are missing those guys. I'm sorry but that is the truth. We aren't deep enough to withstand those types of injuries/defections. Especially when we play the two best teams from the West.

What if he took a job at another program for about the same money. Somewhere where it's easier to win. What if he would rather do that than eventually get fired? What if he knew down deep he couldn't win at the level required at Tennessee?

Yep. Although in fairness, butch could be a great coach if he wasn't so stuck on his system, which is a hard thing to know before you hire him. The AD can ask "are you willing to swallow your pride and let someone else run a different offense" but he has no proof till he's hired.

Guys I was all torn up over our play Saturday as well.

Then I got a call a couple of hours ago one of my friends was shot and killed this morning. This is just a football game not life and death.

Lol all we had to do was beat South Carolina. Stop acting like that is some huge task.

Losing to Bama & aTm is irrelevant if we take care of our own business. And we didn't

SC was going to be the toughest matchup for us. 1, Muschamp knows how to defend our offense as well as anyone. 2, we have played SC close every year in Butch's tenure.

We will destroy UK. Vandy game will be ugly but we will pull it out.

All but one of those are from the defense, which has played adequately well. Injuries are not an excuse.

CBJ said pre-season and has reiterated all season that "Our goal at Tennessee is to win championships. We expect to play for divisional championships. The team goal is to get to ATL and compete for the SEC Championship."

Forget the W-L record. You put out there that the team goal is to win a championship, you're going to have to answer for failing to achieve it-- if, indeed, Team 120 doesn't miraculously make it to ATL.

Don't think the money matters as much to Butch. He's an ego maniac and desperately wants to be viewed as an elite coach. But I also think he knows he's in over his head at Tennessee.

If he wins out or even goes 9-4, his stock as a program builder would still be relatively high and he could jump to a less competitive conference and save face. Then he can rebuild a Purdue-like program and have 3-4 years of built-in excuses and low expectations.

Butch= Va-jj after that presser.... I don't even like Jimbo Fisher, but that dude answers the hard questions and sticks up for his players like he has a pair... went off on officials after the game and didn't give a rip if he was fined.... that's the kind of coach we need, not a Conf USA sissy who is happy to go to a bowl....
Only way we have a prayer of winning out is if he nuts up and talks with the team, owning up to his mistakes and issues and promises to make changes for the kid's sake...
