I remember when I knew Dooley wasn't going to cut it. I have the same feeling here. It may be in three years but he's not going to get the done here.

Lol happy with being bowl eligible for the third straight year with a win Saturday.

He saved his ass two years in a row by winning rinky-dink bowl games. Probably thinks that a blowout of a mediocre ACC team in the Belk Bowl will buy him more time.

This. 4 minutes left in the game, all of our TOs remaining, and down 3 points, IIRC. Why in the world did we not run the ball once with Kelly? Dobbs, who wasn't playing well, throws an INT after already throwing one earlier in the game. He was off all night with his throws. I cannot believe someone didn't ask anything along those lines.

Because they all know the answer would be:

"We liked what we called with how their defense had been playing. There was a miscommunication and everyone would be saying it was a brilliant call of we had executed properly."

Losing to USCe is something we should be grateful for with a coach in his 4th year?

Going 10-3 is

But I wasn't delusional enough to think this was a NC caliber team like most on this board. With the injuries we have suffered, it is remarkable that we made it to 5-2.

SC was a bad loss obviously. Can't put too much spin on that but there has been a lot of good things happen this year.

I had that feeling at the end of the second game of the year last year. That feeling has never left and has only steadily increased.

Is no one going to ask what the hell is wrong with our offense and what is he going to do to fix it? Or are we just talking about Hurd and next years team?

Being bowl eligible 3 years in a row for the first time since 2002 is not good enough. Why did he state that? This is coming from the same guy that said the team would "own" the championship expectations this year.
Hahahahaha
Congrats. You're better than Derek Dooley.

Middle Tier Bowl U

So true.

People can hum and haw all they want but Tennessee hasn't been elite in 15+ years and people expecting championships every year are delusional.

Whether anyone wants to hear it or not, we're a mediocre football school and have been for as long as many can remember.

We have a big stadium, we play in the SEC, we have a good fan base, and we have some cool plasma TVs in the players lounge.

We have all that, but let's not kid ourselves that we're an elite program. JMO

No not NC caliber. But SEC east caliber? Absolutely. We pissed it away. No other way around it. East is awful this year.

Butch has a loser mentality. Our entire athletic department does.

And I'm waiting for someone in the media to grow balls and question his judgment. Execution is only part of it. It is still questionable to call designed pass plays with a QB who was having a horrible night versus running with a RB who was having a great night. It's not just running with Kelly either. We didn't run once in that situation. Plenty of time and all of the TOs available.

The media started pressing him too late in the press conference.

Agreed. Feels like post Kentucky Dooley to me.

I doubt it happens this year unless we lose 2-3 more. Unfortunately Butch is a dead man walking as far as HC at Tennessee. Probably after next season. I expect we will struggle even more so after a subpar recruiting finish this year.

We have been elite in the past and could be elite again. The administration has no qualms about dispensing 10s of million of dollars on facility upgrades. The problem lies in their frugality when searching for a head coach. Gotta stop hiring discount coaches.

Nobody really wanted to be the one who started the "pressing". But after it started everyone began to chime in. Just took way too long.

I think Butch could pull what Dooley should have done after Kentucky and leave on his own. Of course, Dooley knew he was a terrible coach and thought it would be better to just get fired and get the buyout money. But Butch legitimately may not get another job outside of a Bo Pelini Youngstown State type job if he ultimately gets canned at Tennessee (and Butch essentially IS Bo Pelini).

Don't think the money matters as much to Butch. He's an ego maniac and desperately wants to be viewed as an elite coach. But I also think he knows he's in over his head at Tennessee.

If he wins out or even goes 9-4, his stock as a program builder would still be relatively high and he could jump to a less competitive conference and save face. Then he can rebuild a Purdue-like program and have 3-4 years of built-in excuses and low expectations.

Yup. His only shot is by hiring a good OC and giving him the keys but that won't happen. And with Hart giving him an extension it will be too costly to fire Butch until after the '18 season.

Hopefully JG is good enough to overcome the play calling over the next few seasons. Because if Dobbs was a better passer we'd be 7-1 right now even with ****ty play calling and bad schemes.

That's why I'm so nauseous, elite talent all over the field is being wasted...
