Bye Bye Butchie

Nice sentiment, but what makes you think Shoop is going to stick around for this? The hottest DC in the business comes to UT, loaded with talent, and falls flat on his face. Whats the common denominator here?

INJURIES, INJURIES, INJURIES. Shoop is not going anywhere yet.
Like I said:
We need a top notch OC and a QB that can pass the ball. I believe JG or QD will be light years better than Dobbs.
Why is that so far fetched?

Because Butch has proven over and over again that he has no balls until he has no choice, he's too conservative for the modern game, he isn't developing players at all, he makes horrific decisions on almost every game day, his gameplans have sucked all year, none of his "new" hires panned out. The problem with Botch Jones is much deeper than an OC and a QB. Replacing the OC and QB would be putting a band aid over a bullet hole.

The defense looked like crap before all the injuries. Got anymore excuses?

JG and Dormady were making passes in high school that Dobbs cannot make right now as a college QB. That's why I think we can get better, especially if we get a competent OC.
One thing I don't understand, is Debord insisting on trying to make Dobbs a dropback passer, which he clearly is not. If Dobbs attempted to run more in this game, we probably would have won it. Debord is an idiot.

If a QB can fix the bad clock management, horrible discipline, bad tackling, blocking, gameplanning, adjustments, and the S&C, they should run for Head Coach.

The best coaches are back up QBs.

I agree, he has made some bad decisions but I disagree with you on the Shoop hire. This is an aggressive, fast defense that has lost several starters, and they don't get much rest because of the offense.
And again, I think Butch could do well as the "CEO", and let someone else take control of the offense.
Unless we can find a proven winner at head coach, and can pay top dollar for him, what else do you suggest???

Nuff said.

And who do you think should replace Jones? Are we going to buy out his contract and pay for a top coach? Because it hasn't happened yet.
I'm as pissed off as everyone else and I've been watching Tennessee football for over 30 years.
Fulmer had some teams that were disciplined and some that were not so much. When he was on top, he had 2 of the best coordinators in the game. When he lost those coordinators, he lost his job.

Ahem, he didn't "lose" Chavis. You sure you're on the right board?

You're right, but we lost Cucliffe(sp?) and that was his undoing.
I'm not saying Jones is the answer, but I don't think it's realistic to think he's going to be fired after this season. It's just not in the budget.

They didn't take this team serious and gave up in the 4th. I wasn't surprised by losing at halftime. But I was by only scoring 21 points. How the heck does a team who plays on fire all year play like crap?

Cutcliffe came back. Fulmer's undoing was on him, and had nothing to do with staff, which he regularly abused and threw under a bus.

I can answer that. Because this fanbase is infested with morons. All year long, you all have been making your brags about how this team was going undefeated and waltz into Tampa where whoever we played would hand us the trophy on bended knee. Anyone with half a clue about football had realistic expectations, because there were obvious question marks. But not you knuckleheads. You all have it in your heads if you throw a big enough fit long enough, we will get a championship.

When the thing went against your delusions because mostly of injuries, you aholes act like you are the owners and demand the coach be fired because Santa Claus won't be bringing you a national championship you didn't put any sweat into.

That is why this thread is stupid.

Even though I'm super disgusted with what happened today, this is 100% correct.

Poorly coached game. Entirely too many injuries has caused the majority of our problems. Debord is the problem, not Butch. Personally I think Jones has brought us out of the pit of hell. Give the man a chance. He cannot help it about all the injuries we have had. Remember, hindsight is always 20/20. Be realistic, Rome wasn't built in a day and Tennessee football is not back after 4 measly years. Look how many years it has been since we have been relevant in the SEC. Probably will take several more years to be a real threat to anyone.

If Debord is not the problem, how come he's still stuck to the same playbook every week? Wouldn't Butch fix that, if he had any sense? The answer is no, and the bigger problem here is Butch Jones, the common denominator.

People thought Randy Sanders and Dave Clawson were the problem too, they weren't.

Because, Butch is just another guy. If you look at what Malzahn, Fuente, Briles, Dykes at Cal, these guys are difference makers. The fact is we could have hired just about any competent coach and be where we are out now. In QB paralance..Butch and DeBord are game managers. See Jake Delhomme.

We simply suck! Nothing good about this team.. not one decent play other than 100 yard return... thats it! Coach doesnt learn anything.. For years had worst DB's in the game, still do! Just sad as hell!

Coach doesn't learn anything. Unwillingness to recognize obvious problems & make appropriate changes is his downfall; without the "hail Mary", really, where would we be? We've been struggling all year; can't put 2 halves together. If you can play and have come from behinds roaring back in 2nd halves there's no reason you shouldn't be able to do that all game. Everyone, including the Dr. Pepper concession guy, knows how to defend the VOLS--ding, ding, ding....that should tell you something COACH!

This team is decimated by injuries. DECIMATED. Really unprecedented. We played poorly today and seemed to lack focus. You could tell from the press conferences last 2 weeks that CBJ was out of sorts. The head coaches mental state has transferred to the players. CBJ is having trouble regrouping. The team is mentally fatigued and out of sorts as well. This team has played funky since the first game and was very healthy at that point. CBJ will have one more year. Poor coaching was evident from game 1, but there are some other things contributing to the problem. GBO.

Yeah, we "just came out flat." Like Weeks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 etc. etc. Nothing to worry about, see you in Atlanta!
