Danny O"Brien dismissed from team

Can't believe this. This kid damn near gets knocked into a coma and is then kicked off the team for a little pot. This country is all jacked up. I've never seen so many ut players take a knee during an injury. This dude is loved and will be a big loss to the team. Smh, not like he was riding around town with pot and a loaded stolen gun.

The weed argument gets rehashed every time this happens, no one ever changes their mind.
The legality is irrelevant anyway, it would most likely still be a NCAA and/or team rule. So same result. Nobody's personal beliefs make any difference in this situation.

Funny.
He said hash, heh, heh, heh, heh.
Yeah, that's cool.

I hope all the bammers including Darth Saban smoke up before the game Sat. Hell I'll foot the bill.

...if the hospital in College Station released the results of a drug screen to UT without Danny's permission they would be in violation of HIPAA and could face serious consequences.

What kind of program you running here?(

Well you see if OUR players do something illegal, there's a penalty they have to pay. WE don't just arm them and blast arresting officers as rival fans. Like if you found this post informative.

Wait until it's legalized nation wide.

This is some of the same idiotic reasoning I hear before a city/municipality finally goes wet after being dry for years and years. It's just stupid. It's really hard to have an intelligent conversation with someone like you. Are you a gun control nutcase as well?

Not exactly a reputable medical site. Their home page also links the story: "NASA Has Discovered A New Planet Covered With Marijuana" :)

Don't confuse a dope head with facts..it may be a month of toking up with his brain trust before he can come up with another excuse and feel good about smoking again. Yesterday he was curing cancer...today he's just another pot smoking loser. He doesn't need that stress in his life right now!

Doubt weed would be considered a problem in this country if the only folks consuming were those with cancer.

Is it considered a real problem and if so, by who? The government? Haaaa...

This country has many REAL problems.. Weed is WAY down on the list.. IMO it doesn't even make the list....

Kid gets carried off on a stretcher and hospitalized. Then, a day later is kicked off the team. It's just bad optics. It's all about perception. Opposing coaches know some 17 year old recruit isnt going to consider team/AD policy. They can spin it as cruel and unusual. "You see what UT does to its own when you make a mistake"? It's not right, but I could see it happening. Negative receuiting is a huge deal for every SEC team.

Don't do what has to be done because we might miss on a recruit? It all balances out.

Whoever is in charge of PR should be fired. He likely isn't playing again anyway, why publicly boot him 2 days after acting like he was about to die?

Well there is that time that another nail in Bruce Pearls coffin was for saying Brian Williams wouldn't be playing again for a back injury. When in fact Williams failed a drug test. The PR was bad for that. Plus for instance if Jones and Tennessee did wait and let him sit rest of season with rest of country assuming he was injured. If Danny has any desire to try to play pro ball either in states or Canada. Teams would overlook marijuana way easier than a career ending injury especially the way he was taken off the field. Both would hurt his draft stock but one more significantly than the other. Butch did the best thing for Danny's future imo.

How will this be used against us? Because our coaches don't tolerate drugs?

It doesn't say anything about drugs. It questions the timing and motives of the dismissal.

You have to actually read the article. Also, look at the comments at the bottom. Some are saying it was okay till he couldn't play, then they threw him away.
