Word on Hurd??

If people would observe as much as they run their mouths they would see on the locker room celebration video Jalen holding his head as he walks away. They would rather bad mouth the work horse of this team! Drives me crazy!!!

Vol74, please let J know that H'ville (court's aunt) has his back... ride or die!

I don't think it was that play, cause if it was he would not have went back in. He had a TD pass after the fumble play. And if he had any signs whatsoever of a concussion, they would have immediately pulled his helmet! That's protocol!

When else in the game did Hurd "get his bell rung?"

Maybe this is why Butch has been so squirrelly about the injury (i.e., claiming it was a "lower extremity injury" when Hurd's uncle and VFL34 say otherwise). Keep in mind that Hurd was on the field for the kickoff return right before the Hail Mary. If Hurd really did suffer a concussion, it probably happened on the hit that caused his fumble and he probably shouldn't have played at all in the second half.

Thank God we have threads like this so morons who know little can look like they know even less. Hurd was abducted by space aliens and his alien look a like played Saturday. He mouthed off at Butch and killed puppies at halftime, thats why he got benched. The concusion is cover because the real Hurd can't remember anything about the game because he was in another galaxy at the time.

If Jalen is showing concussion like symptoms, I take major issue with him being on the return team at the end of the game.

Correct. If Hurd's symptoms were strong enough to justify sitting him for most of the second half, he shouldn't have been allowed back onto the field for the kickoff return at the end of the game. Here's an excerpt from Tennessee's NCAA-approved concussion protocol:

Any student-athlete suspected of having sustained a concussion, based on signs, symptoms, or behaviors, will be removed from participation and evaluated by a team athletic trainer, or team physician, with concussion experience. The team athletic trainers and team physicians are empowered with unchallengeable autonomous authority to determine medical management and return-to-play decisions of student-athletes. . . . If a student-athlete is determined to have sustained a concussion, they will be removed from participation in all athletic activities for the remainder of the day at a minimum, and referred to the Team Physician for further evaluation and planning, or transported to the nearest emergency medical facility for evaluation and treatment if necessary.

Looked like he was holding his temple after he scored. Not sure why he played on the last kick return but he looked fine blocking and running. He didn't run out and celebrate with everyone probably because he had a headache. He's tough and is a great Vol!!

Head injuries and the risk of permanent brain damage aren't a joke. If Hurd had a concussion, somebody (either the medical staff or the coaching staff) screwed up by allowing him to continue playing through it in the second half.

Just to clarify, I don't fault Hurd at all, because it's not the player's responsibility to take themselves out of the game.

This would explain why everyone got the "Lower extremity" report. This is just to cover for the goof up of letting him back in the game.

Ok so I'm hearing conflicting news. They are reporting on the radio all morning that Jalen was "full go" at practice yesterday. Sports Animal may not be anyones favorite but they rarely report inaccurate information.

Did they report that they saw him full go or were told he was full go? Uncle Hurd has already asked to find one person who saw him practice, so curious if these folks actually saw it or just reporting what coach told them.

He scored a TD on his last snap.

I believe Hurd took snaps well after his TD reception in 3rd Qtr.
I had a theory that even in crossing the goal line in the 3rd, that he was still not securing the ball to the coaches standard, and that CBJ (& others) were getting his attn. with some spectator time. After watching some of the film, I noticed he played a couple of series following his reception/TD.
Whatever the case may be, it does not appear serious.

I for one think it is fantastic to have the luxury of sitting a back like Hurd ( just think back a few seasons ).
Sorry, just went thru thread and read Travis post re; concussion , ....... nevermind.

Josh Ward reported it and he is their practice reporter. I can only assume he was there but can't say with certainty. How direct was "Uncle Hurd's" info? I only ask because he and I conflicted on an issue that I was eye witness to once before.

He said Hurd didn't practice and asked to find someone who witnessed it. VFL34 said the same thing, so kinda hard to argue with those guys. In the end it doesn't really matter. If he is healthy he'll play. I guess it's just interesting/frustrating to see 2 complete sides of the story and try to make sense of it.

I'll go back and look but I am fairly certain he was part of the celebration in the pile of players.

And this whole thread is how things get blown up. Remember the Dobbs thread before VT.

Let the official communication suffice and stop speculating.

Was wondering why John Kelly was getting snaps. Anybody see if Hurd was in the postgame celebration? I didn't, and he's usually front and center.

I believe as it started there were two No. 1 jerseys in the celebration. But as it went on I only saw Kongbo. But there may be a few angles I haven't seen. He may have been one of the first in the dressing room.

Not much has been said about him. Nothing was said at all about it on The Butch Jones Show. So I believe whatever might be going on is one of those NOYDB issues.

Butch said Hurd was foll go in practice in his press conference Monday when someone asked about it.

Is that not enough?

Obviously not.

Butch also said that Dobbs was okay before VT and folks ignored him then too.

So folks are going to say and think what they think regardless of what anyone associated with the team says.

I think it's being more down played because he got his bell rung opposed to a knockout, so he won't have to go through as intense of a regime to be cleared with the new rules

It's most likely because they don't want to explain why they let him return to the game after discovering he got his bell rung.

I still just think there's more to it than injury. Hurd was just too involved after "Supposedly" getting his bell rung to think its injury related. Again any sign whatsoever of concussion issues his helet would have been pulled immediately! And then also you get word from CBJ that its lower extremity injury, but others say he DOES NOT have lower extremity injury. Someone is lying, who is it? Who the hell knows
