'17 MS RB Cam Akers (FSU commit 12/27)

Would be surprised if he left the state of Mississippi other than possibly Alabama or LSU. For whatever reason Mississippi athletes rarely venture too far from the state.

He is definitely leaving the state. Not saying he ends up a Vol but he won't be playing in Oxford or Starkvegas.

We are going to sign two great backs in this class. If it isn't Akers who joins Chandler it will be someone else.

We are going to run for a boatload of yards this season. We are going to return our entire offensive line and we are losing two 5* running backs. Our situation is just too good. It will happen.

If not Akers, someone else will join in. It could be someone completely off our radar right now. Mark it down. We are signing two top tier running backs in this class.

I'm not so sure Kamara goes this year. Don't think he's shown enough to get drafted with a deep running back class. It's a tough road as an undrafted free agent running back.

This year would probably as good year to go if the RBs have a good test because all the "elite" RBs are not having a good year so far

So does Johnny Jones. Highly under rated.

Curt Watson deserves a mention. He ran very hard nosed. In his bowl game his senior year the announcers on television said he had never lost a yard from the line of scrimmage in his whole career at Tennessee. He did not in that game either. everyone was keeping track of it. He had one carry where he almost did. He spun away a little and made it back to the line of scrimmage. That is an amazing stat. Also he later became a "Blue Angel" which is cool.

But in all seriousness, I really hope we can land one more guy (ideally Cam Akers), but if we don't I think we'll be set. John Kelly will be a great back and has show he can run powerfully and with good pad level. Fils-Aime will have a year under his belt, which means a year in the weight room and a year learning the playbook. He could probably add at least 15 lbs, bringing him to the 190-195 range. Last but not least Ty Chandler, who has nearly 1000 yards rushing already through 6 games, is averaging 10 yards a carry and is averaging 160 yards per game.

I am actually beginning to think the same thing about AK. If this were a different RB class that wasnt so deep, he probably is gone. But honestly, he may come back next year to play his SR year. If that happens then not getting a second big time RB this year is not that big of a deal.
