Appalachain State - Message Boards

You know what JP, I'll listen to the argument that we better be ready for Georgia, Florida and Bama, I got no choice there.

But I'll be damned if I'm gonna hear anything from some far inferior program who's only playing us so they can fund their athletic department. No, it'll be their second and third tier players who couldn't even sniff a damn offer from a school like Tennessee who's gonna need the ice baths come Friday morning. Appy State has no chance to cover a very sizeable, damn near disrespectful spread unless Jones empties the bench mid 3rd quarter. Period.

I guess HBJ and staff were out throwing around offers. Must have used his chart.

TWO JOIN APPSTATE
WR Zireycus Letman drew interest from a slew of power-conference programs, including Alabama, Arizona, Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisville, Mississippi State, Tennessee and UCLA.

Interest is different than offered. I didn't find a chart that shows he was ever offered by the slew of schools listed

You are correct. I should have used the word "sniff" as KB did.

Kid must have a pretty good sniffer

Damn, KB. All I said was we won't just roll over and play dead in essence. Nice reply

Don't take any guff from, KBVOL. However in the future, I suggest you call him pal, sport, or chief in your reply.

".....unless UT just plays flat, this game will get ugly and early......Only 4 of your 13 opponents had winning records. You went 2-2 vs those teams.....We can go deeper into the season stats.... but most of the teams you played were just flat bad teams.....Against UT, your starters will be overmatched at every position at least two deep. UT may play flat for some reason. But that's frankly your only hope for keeping it close......"

Once again, sjt nails it. AppSt has a couple of weapons on offense, and a couple of playmakers on defense. And that's it. UT has the talent to attack on defense, and just simply overwhelm on offense. If the final line is ~21, UT covers easily. I fully expect to see the 2nd and 3rd teams play most of the 2nd half.

I also think the staff won't show their full hand, on either side, before the VT game, and especially the UF game. Those are "must wins", so I expect a fairly straightforward scheme from UT on both sides of the ball in this one.

Then again...Shoops and/or DeBord might want to send a message to VT (and UF), and give them something to worry about looking ahead, so.....

I'm right back to "sjt nailed it."

Go Vols.

Here we go fighting with App State fans when the real enemies loom later on in the season.

"Utah State Syndrome". They talked a ton of trash, and never showed up after the game to eat their crow.

I expect a much higher level of conduct from both AppSt and Vol fans.

AppSt is a classy program with a long history as an FCS power, and an occasional "giant killer".

Utah State is the third best college football program in their own state, and there is no number 4.

I notice there are no USU fans on here begging for a rematch.....

Go Vols.

App alum here.... I know, I know, it isn't 2007 and you guys aren't Michigan. However, I will say this. We are just now getting up to 85 schollies and are only in year 3 of making the transition to FBS football.
We have a very solid qb in Taylor Lamb (31 td's vs 9 int's last year) and a strong stable of running backs led by Marcus Cox (ran for 1400 yards last season as a jr). What we are really excited about is our stingy defense. Love Coach Jones even if he is a UT alum. Yes, you will likely beat App on September 1. However, you will know that you have played a lunch pail mentality team and may want to spend a little extra time in the whirlpool on Friday.:)

Our entire second string will be in around halftime, 3rd string by the end of the game. I respect App.St's program, but you're not on the same level as us. You guys just enjoy the show and the atmosphere of Neyland.

Now that is what I am talking about. I have always respected Tennessee's program. My aunt and uncle live in Kingsport and have been season ticket holders for over 40 years. Tennessee may win by 30 , but I am confident that we cover the spread and maybe gain a little respect of our own during the course of the game.

You've already got as much respeCT from us as you'll get. You're a good program in the sunbelt, good fanbase. We know who you are, you're just over the hill from us. You have nothing to prove around here.

I am originally from WNC and respect what ASU has done over the years. But unless UT just plays flat, this game will get ugly and early.

You played a weak schedule last year. Only 4 of your 13 opponents had winning records. You went 2-2 vs those teams. Only one was a power 5 team and that game wasn't close.

Against FBS teams with losing records, your O avg'd 41 points but only 24 ppg against those with a winning records. Your D allowed only 16 ppg vs the losing record teams but 31 ppg against the winning record teams.

We can go deeper into the season stats.... but most of the teams you played were just flat bad teams.

I've watched some of your games including Clemson. They played vanilla and flat.... and beat you by 31.

Against UT, your starters will be overmatched at every position at least two deep. UT may play flat for some reason. But that's frankly your only hope for keeping it close. AND.... I have seen only one game since Jones arrived when UT wasn't mentally prepared to play. They didn't always play well. But only once did they lack "fire".

I think this is spot on.

It's the first game of the season. They may fail to execute in some areas, but they'll be fired up to play.

To get a little more micro, I think Appalachian State is VERY likely to struggle to protect their QB. At some point, the coaches may have to decide if making a good show is worth risking key players they'll need in games that matter a lot more.

The more they play the twos and threes versus the UT twos and threes, the worse it will be on the score board.

The UGA fan is misinformed. Dobbs didn't turn the ball over but 6-7 times (he threw 5 picks and I add some room for fumbles). He is a proficient QB because he doesn't throw nearly as much.

I agree.

You can go position by position and find a similar story. Their OL won't be able to hold up vs UT's front 7. They'll need to run it but their QB runs a spread while not being a great run threat. That leaves them with quick hitters and screens.... that are now all too predictable.

You can go to every match up and see significant advantages for UT in size, strength, and speed.

Of those 5 picks 3 hit our receivers in the hands and deflected so you could say only 2 was his fault.
