Dobbs DOES have some issues in the passing game though camp reports of greater accuracy and "putting air under the ball" are GREATLY encouraging.

Dobbs DOES NOT have a problem with not taking care of the ball. I would wager he was one of the best in the SEC among QB's with fumbles in spite of being 2nd among QB's in rushes and 1st in rush yardage.

App State beat Ohio last year.....by 2.
South Alabama....by a touchdown.
Lost to Clemson....by 31.
Lost to ARKANSAS STATE by 13.

I say get real to anyone thinking we're going to lose our season opener, at home, to Appalachian State.

That's what EVERY Michigan fan said a couple of years ago as well. Just sayin. And for the record, I believe UT will win easily.

You can go position by position and find a similar story. Their OL won't be able to hold up vs UT's front 7. They'll need to run it but their QB runs a spread while not being a great run threat. That leaves them with quick hitters and screens.... that are now all too predictable.

You can go to every match up and see significant advantages for UT in size, strength, and speed.

THIS. We've got a guy at center who was pushed into that position last year when our starting center was injured, so our center is, in essence, a rookie even though he's a senior. That one position on the OL is key to the whole offense - reading D's, calling coverages, etc.

Taylor Lamb is a good, solid QB. He knows the game of football well and will make a great coach somewhere down the line. You're correct that he hasn't been a run threat. Unlike Armanti Edwards (App's QB of Michigan slaying fame), Taylor is a field general rather than an individual rock star. Taylor is more likely to make the call that springs someone else for a big play than he is to make that big play himself.

You're right on the size comparison as well. Our players are much bigger and stronger across the board than they were 10 years ago. Our offense and defense are not the same as they were 10 years ago either.

This game shouldn't be close. Now that I think of it, bumblebees shouldn't be able to fly either. Thankfully, bumblebees can't read, so they go fly anyway. :good!: Only 15 days to football! Life is getting better by the minute!

Bumblebees shouldn't be able to fly but somehow they still can. I guess that means you all do have a shot after all. We all stand corrected, excellent analogy.

His fumble per carry ratio would rank 1st in the SEC my guess.

That game in the Big House was definitely a once in a lifetime event. I still remember one of the ushers asking me what the score would be. Just joking around, I said we'd be up by two touchdowns at halftime, that Michigan would come back in the 3rd quarter, but that we'd still win by 3. It was good for a chuckle ... until halftime when we were up by two touchdowns. :dance2: Of course, I wasn't quite right on the score. We only won by 2. Still, we waltzed out of Ann Arbor with $400,000 and the kind of good publicity that no amount of money can buy.

Just for the record, I'm not predicting an App win at UT this year.

Had to be a great feeling. The downside of a win like that is the inability to sneak up on teams in the future. They want to overlook you, but every five minutes someone says, "they beat Michigan."

Yeah. I'm sick of hearing our own fans chanting "we beat Michigan". It was really cool for a few seasons. Other than putting our university in the limelight, the best part of the win was shutting up Kirk Herbstreit after his remark about Michigan having no business scheduling cupcakes like Appalachian.

I think many Mountaineer fans are reasonably realistic:

Per ESPN FPI, our chances to knock off UT are 4.9% or a 22:1 chance to win.
UT has a 12-1 chance to win the CFB Playoff. So we have about half the chance to beat UT as they do to win CFB Playoff.

This isn't so bad when compared to the following:
VT - 12.7% (we are just under half as likely to win as VT)
Ohio - 1.5% (so we are 3x more likely to beat UT than Ohio)
South Carolina - 11.3%
Kentucky - 6.2%
Missouri - 7.5%
