I think Dobbs' leadership is something that sometimes gets lost in the discussion around here.

He can throw the football, and he can obviously run,” Shuler said. “But it’s going to be that leadership that separates him from being just a good quarterback to one of the great quarterbacks to play at the University of Tennessee.

“Look, I’d rather have him than any other quarterback playing in the SEC or in the NCAA right now. (As a dual-threat quarterback) he plays havoc with defenses right now.”

Ex-Vols star Heath Shuler unimpressed with most SEC quarterbacks

I think Dobbs has gotten a lot of praise this offseason for his leadership personally.

Probably. I just haven't personally seen it much. Most discussion I come across tend to focus on his accuracy, his legs, or his giant brain. 😁

Championship teams need championship caliber leaders. I think Dobbs can fill that role this season.

Dobbs is great. But, FL could call up the 2015 pinewood derby winner from troop 102 and still give us fits -- we've got to contain Florida's qb this year no matter what limitations he might have today.

Absolutely. But I'm not sure Dobbs can help with that. 😁

I'm putting that task in the seemingly very capable hands of Bob Shoop. Plus, we also have some good experienced leaders on that defense this year.

Dobbs has Clear Eyes and a Full Heart......you know what comes next.

I think Dobbs will be noticeably better passing and will still be one of the more underrated qbs of the season.

He has a rocket of an arm, can fly when he runs and will soar to new heights as he engineers this season.

See what I did there? :)

Dobbs was in the same position last year that Worley was in during 2014. One last drive to kick a field goal and beat UF. Neither of them were able to pull it off. Both would be remembered as UT legends for breaking the streak. Hopefully his leadership shines through and overshadows his passing woes. Tebow was a bad passer but his teammates were willing to run through a brick wall for him.

Passing woes? He has room to improve, but completing 60% of his passes with a group of relatively unproven wide receivers isn't exactly terrible.

Interesting stat I looked up because I was curious.. Worley completed around 55% of his passes as a junior and 62% as a senior.

And that's what happens Freak.
You posted a topic that had nothing to do with his passing, and here we are.

IMO leadership is why this team is being compared to great teams like "98"

Speaks volumes about the recruiting Jones has done. Look at the class of individual representing us at SEC media day. Think about how many other well spoken leaders we could have had there in addition to those young men.

2014 was AJ Johnson, Mac Crowder and Curt Maggit.

Granted AJ still only stands as accused, but add in a kid diddler to that equation and the contrast clears up.

Looking over the roster as well for that year shows that there were not as many excellent choices as there are now.

Cam Sutton was just a SO. Vereen, SO. Brian Randolph as a junior was a legit leader, so he could have been a solid representative. Reeves-Maybin was only a SO and coming off just a season of special teams play primarily. Dobbs was a SO. who only played out of need the previous season.

Per 2016 roster I feel like any of the following would have been outstanding choices.
E. Wolf. J. Hurd. A. Kamara. J. Smith. D. Kirkland. E. Berry. TKJR. C. Vereen.
D. Barnett.

I know. Any discussion of Dobbs tends to go that way. It's a fair argument -- even Dobbs will tell you he needs to be a bit more accurate -- but some people completely undersell him as a passer. We really need someone to step up at receiver and be that big play guy this season.

I think if the 2014 line would've just been avg Worley would've had a pretty good year. We all know he was tough as nails but he actually didn't have a bad arm at all.

Dobbs will take a nice step foward this year but an added diff will be the weapons he will have at his disposal. PWill and Malone will really help Dobbs turn some heads this year IMO.

Oh, I dropped out of those discussions.
While I thought that one poster was exaggerating how great his passing was, the retorts quickly became just as exaggerated.
He needs improvement in that area, but all in all, he is a very talented qb and leader.

Add in our OL issues and I have been extremely thankful for Dobbs.
Small improvement from both he and the receivers, and we're looking good.

He had a pretty good arm for sure. His toughness really stood out to me though.

I'm excited about Preston Williams. I think he has the potential to be "that guy" who could make Dobbs look a lot better. And Malone, I'm hopeful this is the year it all clicks for him.

His toughness was the one thing about him that most surprised me. He took a beating, and not only survived it, but kept a fantastic attitude.

Hearing all the Malone talk has got me excited.
We all know the physical ability is there. If he's after this year, might be just what we needed.

But seriously, great post above.

Usually any post I spend 5 minutes on goes virtually ignored. Now on the flip side if I snark out a one liner ripping the drunkard's low IQ's people seem to appreciate them more. Temperament of the board I suppose.

I'll keep you in mind though for the future... :hi:
