Heath Shuler praises Dobbs

Dobbs is a great leader. And.... he still needs to be more effective throwing the ball downfield and throwing receivers open.

Of course, on the down side, just yesterday Butch seemed upset by dropped passes in practice. It's early though.

Dobbs is great. But, FL could call up the 2015 pinewood derby winner from troop 102 and still give us fits -- we've got to contain Florida's qb this year no matter what limitations he might have today.

We have a DC now that will handle that. People are going to be surprised at just how much talent Jancek wasted.

Yeah, I saw that also.
Many here have stated the following, and I also think there's truth in it.

I like the depth of the position, but we really need a couple of go to guys.
Dobbs will not be Manning. But if he gets it in their wheelhouse, we need one or two that can do what Price did for Tee.

And that's what happens Freak.
You posted a topic that had nothing to do with his passing, and here we are.

How would you judge Dobbs leadership? The offense was pretty bad last year when it came to the 2 minute drill and in almost every situation where the offense could have won the game with a good drive or putting up a score. The exception is the Bama game, Dobbs deserved to be the winner for that TD drive late in the 4th.

I know what you're saying. The talent seems to be there but the execution he been lacking so far.

His toughness was the one thing about him that most surprised me. He took a beating, and not only survived it, but kept a fantastic attitude.

He kept coming. It wasn't always pretty but he made several good passes and usually right after getting drove into the ground.

I believe there were several questionable components last year, from depth to coaches calls to just bad play.
Dobbs leadership never crossed my mind as questionable.
When the other components are working, as in Georgia, I think how he runs the team is evident.

Dobbs is a leader and tough. This o-line should give Dobbs a chance of going good to great.

JRM said the team relaxed with the lead. And of coarse all that other stuff too.

I have yet to develop faith in Malone. He is going to have to earn it. But I do think that Smith and Jennings will have a breakout year. Smith because of his past consistency and Jennings because he is big and plays with a nasty attitude. For some reason he reminds me of another 15 named Carl Pickens.

Drops happen. Dobbs would go back to the player after a drop. I'm glad Dobbs has faith in his recievers.

Interesting stat I looked up because I was curious.. Worley completed around 55% of his passes as a junior and 62% as a senior.

And Worley had GREAT OL play as a junior.

Personally I think that experience is a factor many are underestimating with Dobbs. Guys who have played a lot of football often have a way of performing above any limitations they might have in their game.

Worley's long ball was too short and he needed more speed. He gave his all and that's what counts once you are a Vol.

Passing woes? He has room to improve, but completing 60% of his passes with a group of relatively unproven wide receivers isn't exactly terrible.

Agree 100%, last year, it was apparent that Dobbs did the best with what he had, there were some key drops last year by the young WR corp. I think the Offense and Defense will compliment the each other very well. It will not be one of the bend but don't break kind of defenses, and I don't see Jones taking his foot off the pedal against any SEC team or VA Tech. Winning by a field goal or TD does not seem to impress the committee, so, having good rotation on the both sides of the ball is paramount. Dobbs leadership will show up in the second half, I say blast left, blast right with Hurd and off tackle with Kamara or Dobbs will open the middle of the field. The TEs will get more balls thrown at them, and the Frisbee catching WRs will see more 20th yard throws. You can't double team everyone.

Go Vols!!!:good!::salute:

I love Dobbs but Watson is definitely a better passer and probably not far behind in the run game.

Ditto. Heath said what he should have said as a UT guy, a former player. But it's clear that as good as Joshua is, Watson is much better and if you could go back a few years and pick between the two, you take Watson every time.

Probably. I just haven't personally seen it much. Most discussion I come across tend to focus on his accuracy, his legs, or his giant brain. 😁

Championship teams need championship caliber leaders. I think Dobbs can fill that role this season.

His first Int. we will be calling for QD.

Dobbs was the leader of two of the greatest comebacks in Vol history. He led us to early (what should have been comfortable) leads last year against ranked teams and there were lapses in the kicking game and defense that resulted in heartbreaking losses. I have complete confidence in Dobbs as our QB.
