To Protect and to Serve II

One is criminals killing other criminals as part of the drug trade. The other is law enforcement killing unarmed innocent people.

Nobody is saying what's happening in Chicago is acceptable. Its just that almost all of that violence is gangs killing each other over drug turf.

I don't know about you but I expect criminals to do criminal things. However, I do not expect the police to be a threat to innocent unarmed people.

That's why black lives matter is focusing on police killings of black men.

Yep. Drug trade. If drugs were legal Chicago and other urban areas with large black populations would look like Mayberry amirite?

Are you denying that black people, especially men, face this type of behavior more than white people?

You think a black man does this and gets to live and tell the tale?

They face this problem due to demographics.
How likely is a drive by shooting in Farragut compared to Lonsdale.
Police go where criminal activity is concentrated. Look at the demographics of the 37915 area code in Knoxville. The majority of prostitution, drug dealing and other crime happen there, where the % of blacks of the total population is much higher. It's the same in most urban cities.

We can argue about why we still have these demographic issues, but it doesn't change the facts.

Further, when some white trash redneck gets shot out in ****z hollar, it doesn't make headlines. The man shot in Blount Co. Was fairly recent, was on his own property and it didn't even make the evening news. I personally knew an officer who was involved in 3 shootings (two different police forces), all involving whites, and only one was CLEARLY justified. Thank god he finely forced out of law enforcement.

Oh please tell us why he shot him?

Cause I've not noticed any other group of unarmed civilians being shot by police lately.

I don't know why. i dont even know the race of the officer who pulled the trigger. I'd even concede that an option could be racism. The emphasis bwing could be. I don't know and neither do you. what I do know is your knee jerk conclusion is based on hate and disdain for law enforcement.

Sorry if already posted, but why do we have only the video of the hands up, then apparently significantly later afterwards?

Why no video of the incident itself ?

My bad. I normally just put my ear buds in and just listen throughout the day. I think the young man in the video nails it. I expect you to disagree with the militarization aspect he talked about, and even I will acknowledge a limited role for such heavy equipment. However something must be done before we are staring down the barrel of a full scale war. Nobody wants that.

Here's the thing. You know how I feel about the privatization thing, so we won't get into that. Though his argument was good.

But the whole militarization thing...he states at the beginning of the video how he doesn't like the vague terms associated with "police reform." Which I agree with him, but turns around later on and uses the generic term of "militarization" which is just as vague as the term reform. The problem I have with tossing around the term "militarization" is people can't put their finger on exactly what it is. And also, I'd say the vast majority of the equipment taken by police forces tends to be fairly benign. Oh sure, folks scream about bayonettes and MRAPs and whatnot, but those represent such a tiny portion of the equipment taken it's not even funny. I mean, people are really going to screech about a tent or a cold juice dispenser? Or surplus boots? C'mon...

It's not that I'll disagree with the whole militarization thing as I don't believe every local Sheriff and PD out there needs an MRAP, but again, until someone can put their finger on the exact piece of equipment they don't like I'll continue to pose the same question of "what exactly don't you agree with?"

Well, we somewhat agree with the "militarization" thing, so we will move on. Absent a total do over of the criminal code in this country, nothing will ever change. I don't care about mraps and other nonsense, even though it does come from tax money. My problem is targeting non violent people for crimes that consist entirely of human volition. It's someone's choice to live their life a certain way, as long as they aren't harming anyone, it's no ones business. As the young man in the video pointed out, you can be cited for failure to obey a regulation, a completely arbitrary number on a sign, or any of the other myriad of "crimes" that are enforced today. Preventive policing as we know it in this country is an abject failure.

The solutions are pretty clear. End the drug war, only enforce crimes against persons or property. Take the resources being used in the drug war and target the truly violent criminals who are among us. (Mostly lawyers and politicians, but I digress lol)

Exactly! Brought this up earlier. There is nothing in the video that proves this man was shot...

More reality(fake) tv...

I'm not saying that it did not happen exactly as the man said it did.

What I AM saying is that the video I see shows only that he had his hands up at SOME POINT, but we don't know when relative to his being struck. And we don't know exactly what was going on at the time of the shot being fired.

Again, I'm not saying it did not happen as he describes, I'm just saying the video adds almost nothing to it. My concern is the jumping to conclusions some seem to want to do here, and trying to continue an already questionable narrative by adding this incident to other, partially filmed incidents, to support that narrative.

I would like to know who took the video, and why we have video of the man with his hands up AT SOME point, then video of the scene apparently well after the shooting, but nothing in between.

An obvious possibility is that the person who took the video stopped, thinking everything would be okay, then started again after the shot. Another possibility is that the person who recorded it recorded everything, but then provided only the parts they wanted to. A third possibility is that the attorney for the man released just the parts they wanted to.

Knowing what I know about such incidents is that, if FDLE is doing the investigation, then they will examine forensically the device on which it was recorded (i.e. cell phone). If there is indeed more, or was and they can recover it, that is going to raise some interesting questions.

Now, totally on a side note, I of course also wonder if an officer, unable to see exactly what was in his hand, fired at the kid with autism, and accidentally hit the man. That is also possible.

I wondered same thing. All I see is a video of police telling them to lay on their stomach and neither comply. And I thought the female police officer shot him, she looked like she was the nearest one to them.

Police kill family dog at child's birthday party | KOKH

0 repercussions for the cop who killed this boys dog. Labeled as "justified" by the local head coproach. So they investigated themselves and found no wrong doing, as per usual.

No surprise there.

ETA: I have a dash cam in my truck and a few cams around my house to document these things if they ever happen. People lie and they will lie if they think they might be proven wrong.

At what time in the video did you think the female shot this guy? Just curious...

If he was black he woulda been shot a 100 times...

....before he pulled out the gun.

Do you lose your $$$$ when it comes to black on black murder??? EVERYDAY in Las Vegas and black man kills another black man and I don't hear a damn peep from BLM, Jesse Jackson etc...It just seems Black Lives only matter when it comes to prosecuting a white police officer.

Are there crooked cops?? Hell yes but do feel there are more crooked cops than young black criminals?? I mean where is the outrage in the inner city when a young black man shoots another black man for something as stupid as disrespect or a pair of shoes or $20???

Man you're need to take your fight to the inner city and try to stop inner city violence and crime. I gurantee you when you get the crime rate to stop there, you'll start to see less and less police officers looking for suspects to shoot.

Just for the record, my wife is black, my kids are mixed...so PLEASE don't come at me with your racist BS like you always do around here. It about raising your kids right and making sure to teach them that just because looking like a gangsta on TV is cool...it's not!

The shooting victim claims he asked the cop, "why'd you shoot me?" and the cop said, "I don't know."

Now the police union rep is saying the cops meant to shoot the white autistic boy.

Agree. TF?

What in this video warranted even drawing a firearm? Seriously...

He's just a broken F'n record....get your ass into inner city youth centers and try to make a difference to society instead of complaining about how the white man is bringing you down. Listen to Barkley and (ugh) Bill Cosby, your culture is bringing itself down. Too many young black men have zero guidance and no one to look up to in their community. Not everyone can be Jay Z or LeBron, someone needs to be a business professional, Dr, Lawyer, restaurant manager etc....If D4H really wants to help stop white cops from shooting black men, go help black men get involved in their community and become a productive member of society. Now I know this does not include ALL black men but get involved

The point being you never see this behavior by cops toward white people.

Imagine if there wasn't the cell phone video and he didn't survive. You think the cops would admit he had his hands up and was yelling don't shoot?

Or instead don't you think they would say he charged at them and was reaching for their gun?

This is the same story just a different day. Only difference here is the brotha survived and the whole incident was caught on tape.

And people still scratch their heads and wonder why people hate cops.

Let me answer that one... I do and I have the easy solution. End welfare and child support and stop the govt from sponsoring and endorsing single baby mommas. There is a financial incentive for these women to be baby mommas, kick the man out (assuming the man they chose even wanted to be a father) and raise the next generation of chain snatchers and goons.

It won't matter. 3-4 hours with a responsible adult can't counteract what the kid is getting the rest of the time in his home or in his neighborhood.
