Lol...do you even watch film? A NFL scout will pop in his film, and those combine numbers will be a distant memory.
Here's a thought.
Dormady should pass for more yards in week 1 than Dobbs.
IMO after UT is up 3 scores by halftime and the run game has dominated, I'd like Butch to sit Dobbs. Let QD run the offense and give WR recruits a taste of what the pass game can be.
"its early, but ut feels good about incoming class. One official said it might be butch jones' most close-knit in 10 years as head coach. Tyler byrd has impressed, displaying skills as wr and db. One person said he could become first-round draft pick. Quickest of signees. Byrd could be the steal of the class along with brandon johnson, a polished wr and long ball threat. Wr marquez callaway (who has best hands on team) and wr latrell williams have great speed and are long-ball threats who can stretch field. S nigel warrior has elite ability and great instincts. Mlb daniel bituli will play special teams and could be backup to darrin kirkland jr. Ut loves qb jarrett guarantano, who has good, accurate arm and mobility. `he may be a special player, one source said. Ot marcus tatum has gained about 15 to 20 pounds and is up to about 275. Juco de jonathan kongbo has gained up to about 280." - hyams
I didn't even realize it until someone talked about this year being a bad class so far, but Butch's first class that he cobbled together (his worst) has 8 who are big contributors. Dobbs, Sutton, JRM, J. Smith, Kendrick, Weisman, Vereen, and Vickers. Pretty good for his worst class.
FSU could give Vols lots of enjoyment this fall. The 'Noles could get Ole Miss' season off to a bad start, issue their annual chopchop on the Gators and keep Clemson out of the playoffs. As a bonus, they could disappoint all those hater Canes who are still pissed at us for poaching Byrd and Williams.
Bring on football!
While I don't think it will happen, it would be very disheartening if Smart/Eason end up being great in year one AND McElwain cruises to another 9-10 win season.
My hope is that Smart has some serious growing pains as a coach, Eason is clearly a year away, and McElwain begins a slow descent due to losing all of Muschamp's players on defense over the next two seasons.
Speaking of Muschamp--I actually think South Carolina hiring him was a decent move, especially if he can recruit defensive talent.
Best case scenario is he succeeds and stays there. Worst case scenario is he fails and leaves the next guy with a stocked cupboard on defense. And finding guys who can run high-octane offenses is easy. Building defense is the hard part, IMO.
Is that the story?
Man, I know its a long way until signing day and we could really turn some heads if we live up to expectations on the field this season, but I can't get over all the instate talent committing and trending elsewhere... Higgins and Amari being talked about as maybe exchanging cash, Smith crystal balling to AL, Hayden and Chandler could go either way, and Richardson and Stevens have committed and/or are going elsewhere... then to top it all off, Gibbs(lives in GA) who most have thought has been our strongest silent, is now trending to GA... SMH something just doesn't smell right to have all of this potentially going elsewhere when we finished so strong and have been hyped to move mountains this fall...
