2 full time employees to teach a sexual violence class?

Way over the top

Surely they will have other responsibilities but that isn't the way it read to me

If they don't, who cares? In addition to the CYA function and possibly, you know, preventing sexual assault, it adds too more jobs to the economy. How is that any sweat off your sack?

@wesrucker247: There also will be two more full-time UTK staffers whose primary job will be educating student athletes on sexual assault issues.

This is Fing stupid

Knowing how things go for us at UT, those 2 new staffers will have a lawsuit against them within the month. LOL

Only thick-headed southern men would think that hiring people to teach about sexual assault was "over the top." I suppose they don't read the news--sexual assault is a serious problem.

You must be a democrat

I am for small simple government. Much more efficient that way

One full time employee sounds extremely efficient in educating our athletes and covering our ass in the PR department

This was every bit as stupid as what he said. I'll say it again......EVERY BIT AS STUPID.

Of course it's a serious problem. But for people to act like universities are lax about this kind of thing is unfair. Maybe there are improvements that universities can make, but all this is is hiring extra administrators for PR purposes. I doubt it's going to do much beyond giving the university something they can point to and say, "See? We take this seriously."

Nothing to this point has given me an indication that the University of Tennessee has handled allegations without seriousness, as seemed to be the case at Baylor. Now perhaps Tennessee DID do something wrong, but if they did, it's not going to be fixed by hiring new layers of administrators to do things that I imagine were already being done. Do you seriously believe no one has been telling these student athletes not to sexually assault people?

But there's no room for nuance. You can't think that sexual assault is a serious problem and also believe that universities are extraordinarily poorly equipped to adjudicate what by all rights are explicitly criminal actions that should be handled in that arena. If you say that, it suddenly means you don't think sexual assault is a problem.

That's nonsense. Of course it's a problem. But it's not a problem universities are fit to handle entirely on their own.

Instead of getting serious about this, people demand the creation of new offices and initiatives and hire scores of new administrators with six figure salaries, all the while complaining about tuition increases and how unaffordable college is becoming. In so doing, they do a disservice to victims in spite of their noble intentions.
