'17' TN ATH Tee Higgins (Clemson commit)

Serious question for our local "insiders": any idea what Butch's stance is on recruits who troll us? Do we bring them back around other recruits if it's pretty clear they led us on, are they recruited differently, or do we move on entirely? I can't see Butch giving up on Tee, but I also can't see Tee getting the Orange carpet rolled out for him anymore.

Yes, Butch had a chance to hire an innovative OC but instead chose to bring in someone who was out of football coaching for several years. I would agree that CZA is a problem as well. DeBord has no experience as a QB coach and has done nothing to help with Dobbs accuracy.

This offense works. It just comes down to execution.

the only position i could see not liking Debord's offense is WR. tight end catches passes all the time, RBs get tons of carries, linemen get to show off their ability with alot of pulling, a mobile quarterback gets the run/pass option aspect that utilizes all of their talents. Honestly I think WRs will enjoy this offense more once Dormady/Guarantano takes over as well. Yes it sucks that Tee Higgins is gone, but if forced to choose between the two i'd take the highly rated running back (chandler in this scenario) all day long and twice on sunday. See Jalen Hurd vs Josh Malone.

Edit: I assume fullbacks F'ing hate our offense :birgits_giggle:

I'd like for us to roll out a fake turd carpet roll now. That would seem better for him now! LOL! :p

Put yourself in his shoes...

Our WR coach is garbage and it shows on the field.

Until we become more balanced we will continue to slide backwards with WR production.

In his shoes im still a Vol. All my family and friends can watch me be part of the glory that is Saturdays in knoxville. Watch me beat alabama, florida,Georgia, all of em.

Randy Moss didn't have a superstar wr coach at Marshall. Terrell Owens wr coach was probably a freakin unpaid volunteer at UTC. If he can play he can play...in any system..with any coach. Its that simple.

When the receiver with the most yards in the 2015 doesn't even get picked up in free agency, it doesn't make UT attractive to elite WRs.

You are the one who looks stupid. How many great recruits do we have to lose before you realize that DeBord is not the answer. DeBord was not wanted by anybody except Butch.

So how did our offense compare last year to prior years? Have you bothered to check any facts ( or even to think a little) before you posted that trash?
We didn't get a recruit we wanted--we will be fine. Move on. You whiners are killing me

Meh, this is what I call a "step away from the ledge post". We don't know what this offense will look like with Guarantano at QB. My guess is that we will look great. We'll see.

On another note, the biggest sports story of the day is Kevin Durant and there are similarities to Tee Higgins. They are both leaving their home town. They both appear to be bandwagon picks. They both appeared to be staying home just last week and most importantly to this thread... They both show how fallible inside information is. Someone in Durant's camp told ESPN last week that Durant was 80% sure to resign with OKC...

Durant is from Baltimore.

Let me preface this post by saying I would love to have seen Tee commit to the good guys today. I still have some concerns with him, but Clemson will be getting a good one if that's where he ends up 7 months from now.

Now to the issue of our WR recruiting/production. Below is a list, with composite rankings, of the WRs Butch/Azzanni have enrolled over their 4 classes here. It's obvious we don't have issues recruiting top talent at that position.

4* North
4* Malone
4* Pearson
4* Williams
4* Byrd
4* Callaway
4* Jennings
3* Williams
3* Johnson
3* Perry
3* George
3* Wharton
3* Jenkins
3* Harris
3* Smith

Now it comes to production to keep the talent coming. You can't really blame Butch and company for leaning on the run game and "neglecting" the passing game the last few years given these factors: lack of talent at QB, inexperience of OL, and talent at RB. Sure we could have been been better in the throw game, but we were never going to blow anyone away like the WRU of old.

With the evolution of Dobbs this offseason and the increased experience of our OL we should expect to see a more balanced attack this year (although still leaning toward the run game). We need and should see Williams, Malone, & Smith pick up the production this year. Doing that and reaching Atlanta will make us all very happy come NSD '17.

Has nothing to do with Debord. It's Azanni.
Again, win the east this year and recruiting will take care of itself.

I agree, it's Azzani who's the problem. In 3 full seasons at Tennessee, he's never had a WR with more than 54 catches and 618 yards.....that's awful. Last year, neither of those numbers would've put any of our WRs in the top 100 nationally......and neither of those numbers were from 2015, when Azzani supposedly took full control of the passing game as "passing game coordinator".....our numbers last year were much worse.

In terms of the SEC last year, Von's 38 catches and 409 yards ranked him 20th and 30th respectively. Those numbers are very difficult to sell to a top WR recruit, especially when Clemson can point to recent stud WRs now doing well in the NFL and to an offense than generated nearly twice as many passing yards and TD passes as Tennessee last year.

So honestly, you think Butch's reluctance to throw is because our player's don't know routes or timing? If ZA really cannot coach, why would he still be here...you saw what CBJ did with Jancek....why wouldn't he get rid of ZA too??

I happen to think Butch thinks he can win without throwing downfield...we'll find out soon enough! GBO

What part of Tom Brady do you not understand? Ok you're being willfully ignorant now. I'm done.

What do you expect Brady to say? DeBord had 30 years of coaching experience when we brought him here. He served as an OC for only 3 of those years. Nobody even had this guy on their radar to be an OC except Butch. If he was so great with QBs teams would have been all over him.

I'm no fan of Azzani and would love to see him fired but I think this all comes down to Dobbs. The coaches obviously didn't trust him last year and I don't blame them after watching just how bad he was against anyone with a pulse. With that said Butch is walking a thin line and he better beat everyone on the schedule this year like he's supposed to.
