The questions to ask are:
Would this event happen if ISIS didn't exist?
Would this event happen if there were no or limited access to guns?

If ISIS didn't exist the event probably doesn't happen.

If access to guns were much more limited the event probably still happens and with a weapon that causes many more injuries and death, such as a bomb.

Hard to say I'm stunned by this move but I actually am stunned. Even with the most innocent of motives it's extraordinarily dumb as is the stated rationale.

The 2 stories (news) I saw said it was due to Republican criticism but we all know that R criticism doesn't cause this administration to change course.

I think they realized:

1) it was already out from other sources and
2) the decision was utterly indefensible and raise a ton of uncomfortable questions

Release the audio. This did nothing to convince me there isn't something fishy going on here. Transcripts are comical. So let me get this straight, he calls 911, but to confess to the killings and get his 15 mins of fame, yet he doesn't give specifics about where he is shooting or who he is? Anybody smart enough to look at TV knows that 911 calls are recorded and that they can trace back to where/who the call came from, so may as well give that info out anyways on the phone.
