'17' TN ATH Tee Higgins (Clemson commit)

Where is D-B? I was thinking it was in Knoxville. But that was 43 years ago. What city is it in? I remember that team being in the playoffs a lot back then.

Kingsport, TN

Yes, they are an Upper East Tennessee powerhouse, but usually struggle when they get to the playoffs.

Whether we like it or not Hunter Johnson is a great QB. He might not have fit our system or whatever other thing we want to say but he will be a great player for Clemson (or wherever he goes).

I dont believe he will be great. I think he will be a bust. For the record I said that before he decommitted. His game film and stats are pedestrian compared to guys like Lawrence. Lawrence is the real deal. I think HJ is another Gunner Kiel.

I feel the exact same way tbh, I'm not sure if he'll be a bust at Clemson tho, conference not known for its defense. it also seems he never gets a ton of media hype from scouters/analysts. Unlike Lawrence who has been called the next Peyton Manning, when he was a freshman lol. Heck, it even feels like Riley Ferguson got more hype in HS than HJ has gotten. Idk maybe that's just me

Born, raised and played for them in the late 70's,that being said...

They're nowhere near the power house they once were.. With exception of one or two teams they play and blowout generally crappy teams all season, so when they get to the playoffs they're not ready for the better teams they face..

I've always wanted to see them play an OCG against say a 3A/4A GA state champ and get a real taste..

IMHO, of course...

Thanks. That '73 KD-B team was really good. JC-M had absolutely destroyed some pretty good teams up until that game, in Memphis Catholic and Brownsville (now Haywood Co.), then in the playoffs Memphis White Station and Gallatin. KD-B had a pretty good passing game, something JC-M was not used to seeing in those days, so JC-M's defense was built to stop the run.

But that was a great championship game. JC-M couldn't stop KD-B's passing attack and KD-B couldn't stop JC-M's powerful running attack.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Hunter transfer after freshman year. He going to have his hands full beating out Chase Brice. Brice is a competitor that seeks out competiton. Hunter has given me that same Keil impression that he rather avoid it. He got the physical tools but after seeing how he made such a big deal about who was signed before and potentially after him it raised questions for me

Yep, I think Science Hill has more success in the last several years.

Science Hill was one of the biggest under-achieving football programs in the state until recently. They and D-B both get some great athletes. In recent years, Science Hill has improved a great deal in football.

Did he make a big deal about it? They signed a 250 QB last year, have another in his same class, and are heavily pursuing Lawerence.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it was not Dobyns Bennett in 1973. They went 7-3 and missed the playoffs. State champions in 73 were Baylor (AAA), Kingston (AA) and Dyer County (A)

Science Hill used to be more more successful in basketball but the last 4 years in basketball it's been David Crockett because of the Patrick Good boy who signed with Appalachia State. Science Hill has become more of a threat in football in the past 4 years than basketball.

Exactly!
