Some people do this with phones. They buy a new one every year. Its not like video game consoles are the first.
True but the "hidden" cost of our phones is built into our monthly service plan. It's much easier to swallow 20-30.00 per month to pay for our phone than it is to pay 500-700.00 up front. Plus this has been the business model for cell phones since...well since the very beginning. People accept it because that's the way it's always been. It's NEVER been this way with consoles, so Sony/MS are going to have an uphill battle to gain acceptance with this. Who knows, people may just accept it and upgrade but I doubt it will be anywhere near in the same volume as it is with phones.
Basically two things will have to happen before I would consider getting this...
1.) Sony and MS/retailers are going to have to offer me a honey of a trade in deal on my current X1/PS4. Like minimum 150.00 trade in credit.
and
2.). Because I've already acquired so many X1/PS4 games, the only way I'll upgrade is if I see a good portion of my existing library getting patched to take advantage. Like if games like Witcher 3, Driveclub, Ratchet and Clank, Destiny, Bloodborne, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Sunset Overdrive, Until Dawn, etc along with games I've pre ordered like Uncharted 4 & No Mans Sky get patched to run 60fps. Otherwise, what incentive would I have to upgrade if the vast vast majority of my existing library doesn't see any benefit?
If both of these happen then yes, I absolutely will get in line on day 1. Otherwise I'll just stick with what I have.
