That's a big (huge) change from some of the special teams units in recent history.

Remember when we couldn't field a punt?

Or cover one.

I have been keeping up with the Vols since 1990. IMO our special teams have never been anywhere close to this good during that time span. Seems that I even remember during our mid 90's to early 2000's domination(of everyone but Florida) period thinking "Man if our special teams were only better...".

I remember when we couldn't tackle on special teams also.

I personally think we should be top 5 in skills position group. Dobbs, Hurd/Kamara, & Malone/Preston Williams. Take your choice for RB & WR to go along with Dobbs & no way we're not a top 5 group to me from the skills position group.

About time someone got it right. I've seen all-america lists that don't have Berry on them at all. It's baffling how anyone could completely miss that point. Just check the stats from last year.

I used to hold my breath and close my eyes and I think the return men did the same. We sucked!

WOW that took a brain dr. to figure out. We were #1 in Kick returns last year, #2 in Punt returns and our all time punter is returning. How Medley got mentioned I'm not sure.

:thud:

Tennesseeduke

I'll keep Medley high on that list if he doesn't doink one off the uprights against Florida this year.

at special teams. ESPN had their experts rank various units. UT unmentioned except in special teams:

Desmond Howard's special teams

1. Tennessee Volunteers: KR Evan Berry, PR Cameron Sutton, K Aaron Medley

Medley? Where's Daniel? Trevor was outstanding while Aaron was by far our weakest link on special teams. Desmond didn't do his homework.

I remember when Dooley stopped even putting a return man deep! Wow, how things have changed in a few short years!

Got that right, TAF.

Every time I see him put players down in pressers, it is clear there is no mystery why they quit on him.

Medley? He cost this team games. Arguably 3 of them. I love the hype about this team but a big question mark for me is Dobbs and his passing. He can run like blazes but his accuracy is still a big concern..and for Vols to win....and win big...he is going to have to be better in that area or else opponents are gonna stack the line and dare us to run on them. Dobbs has to be a true threat to hit mid range and deeper throws.

I agree with their assessment.

medley was terrible the 1st half of the year, really good the 2nd half.

he missed big, huge FG's against OU, FL and Bama, and ARK.

but we maybe don't win the MO game w/out him.

he needs to have a big year this year, we're gonna need him. but i don't know that i'd have him on my "stars of special teams, 2015 edition". punter, KR, PR...

Medley missed kicks in all 4 losses, although I wouldn't begin to say his missed kick vs Florida led to a loss. The others however......

oh yeah...late defensive collapses in 2 of those had nothing to do with it...nor did the fumbles or poor / dropped passes in all 4...it's all on Medley

well...it sure didn't help.

Medley wan't very good the 1st half of the season. there's really no debating that.

-After 2 seasons, he's missed 16 field goals, including 2 from 20-29 yards.

-Last year he was 6-12 vs our 5 best
opponents (Oklahoma, Florida, Ark, Ga and Bama), including 1-6 from 40+ yds

-Was thankful for him vs Missouri, but he did miss a 31 yd fg....I'm also thankful that Mizzou's offense was completely inept.

-after 2 seasons, Medley is now 6-18 on fg attempts of 40+ yds......six of eighteen, or 33%. Not from 50+ yds.....from 40+ yards. Not good.

So yes, Aaron finished strong last year once we got to the easy part of the schedule when the pressure on him and the team overall alleviated a good bit. But he's been pretty bad his first two seasons overall. He needs to pick it up considerably if we're gonna get to where team 120 wants to and should get.

I had a debate w/ KB a couple months ago, and still concede he was much better in the 2nd half of the season.

Poorest performances last year were BGSU and UA...don't hear nashing of teeth about the first because we won big.

He missed 1 vs. OU, UF and Ark...and that's the reason our VOLS lost...just can't / won't accept his foot as the single point of failure in those 3 losses.

It's a team sport; while many on both sides of the situation get credit / blame, rarely does one play or player cost / win the game....but will admit I can be hardheaded about such things.
