Guarantano must be liking Tennessee so far

JG will have his time, I think it will be his job to lose next year (our qb depth is insane right now).

But make no mistake about it - the 2016 vols will go as far as one Joshua Dobbs takes them

You never know what the season may bring. Dobbs may very well be our best hope. But I think back to the day I watched Tony Robinson being carried off the field, and realize having Dormady, Jones, and Guarantano's services available is comforting. But if Dobbs gives up the starting spot for any other reason? There will be a whole lot of unhappy posts here.

Absolutely. I was only kidding about a QB controversy.

But it is great to hear that Jarrett is liking it here so far. From everything I've seen, he definitely has a bright future.

And one thing we know from experience, you can never have too much quality QB depth.

In my opinion, JG has the best pocket awareness/footwork I've ever seen for any non-NFL QB. It's ideal, just got to work on the touch passes and not putting too much heat on underneath passes.

Swain has stated on multiple occasions that based on what he has seen in practice Dormady has all the tools to excel and will likely be the starter in '17. Swain also stated that we need someone who will "throw first" as the QB so we can continue to recruit talented WR's. If we keep going the "run first" rout, we will end up having a hard time getting the top WR's to come to TN. You can see we are already having more of a challenge due to the lack of production in this offense.

Unless Guarantano just completely shows out and wows the coaches(which is rare and extremely hard to do as a freshman QB) then he's going to have to wait in line behind Dormady.

This assumes Dormady is really good.

If he's another Worley, it shouldn't be that hard for a redshirt freshmen with immense talent to beat him out.

This is turning into another Riley Ferguson situation. Any time some one says something positive about JG people have to come talk about Dormady. Give it a rest.

IMO I think Quentin Dormady will get the nod in 2017. He has all the intangibles to be a great QB for us.

Based on What? He looks like a talented QB but nothing he has done last year screams he will be a great QB. This is based on no data what so ever. He could be good but lets pump the brakes on "great QB".

Transferring, Didn't you hear?:)

He's not been named the Back up this year yet has he or did I miss it?

You do miss a lot so...(no blue). They usually don't name the starter OR backup until after Fall camp...pecking order should be apparent before then tho. Lil tidbit you may have actually missed, GFW backtracked on the Dormady transferring info. Competition on. :gone:

I'm sure with Dobbs first bad pass there will be some calling for a change.

Dobbs can't hit the broad side of a barn. The sad part of this is that he has been playing for 3 going on 4 yrs now. Either he is just a horrible QB OR the coaches are terrible. There is absolutely no reason that Butch Jones should have been saying this spring, 'we're still trying to find our pass game'. That's just pathetic. I know he can run the ball but he is the QUARTERBACK, he is supposed to be able and throw the ball. You can't rely on him at all to move the chains when needed through the air, or even connect long with anybody. This is our glaring weakness. If we could pass the ball, fuggetabout it.

Apparently you didn't actually watch any games if you believe this.

Soon IMHO. Btw, who's gonna beat him out for the backup spot? The kid that transferred right after the bowl game because he saw the writing on the wall or the true freshman that most think is very likely to redshirt?

Never will forget in 04 losing Ainge and Schaffer but still putting up a fight against Auburn in the SECCG then beating the crap out of a top 25 Texas A&M in the bowl with Rick Clausen.

Was just thinking about that QB battle and how that was probably the last time we had this much talent at QB (and I believe JG and Dormady are better). Same situation too, Ainge-pro style QB reminds me of Dormady; Shaeffer-scrambler dual threat a lot like JG.

just stating that it was an assumption, he could get hurt between now and then there is no telling what could happen the backup QB hasn't been named for this year and is always subject to change. I try not to assume anything. God forbid he lose it though many people on here would be calling for Butch's head. Or flipping and claiming they never thought he was that good anyway. (Not you of course, you have remained neutral):)

Isn't it a little early to even be mentioning Dormady in the same sentence as Ainge?

Oh sure it probably is. 2017 QB battle is just looking very similar to that year. Hopefully we won't try to rotate two QBs like we did then, or maybe that was just the first 2-3 games. I cant remember since it's been over a decade:happy:

Was more alluding to the fact that Shaeffer was a 4 star recruit and so was JG and their running ability stands out. But my previous comment has gotten this thread off track so I apologize. Back on topic.

I doubt your genuine worry about their fate...even your desire to involve God. As much as I doubt your repeated mantra that Dormady is good/great and needs to transfer so he can apply that goodness/greatness better elsewhere. I'll explain why I don't believe you. You can't reconcile the two issues. You're either faking your respect and concern for the young man or you're faking your Vol fandom. Why wouldn't you want a quality talent to stick around as long as possible...if only to sit on the bench? Fans don't shortchange their team by wishing talent (even ill-suited talent) elsewhere. You hope they delay their inevitable decision...long enough for another arm to take their place. UNLESS...one is worried that this "ill-fitting" talent could conceivably beat out preferred candidates? :hmm: If you're genuinely confident that Sheriron or JG will easily beat out Dormady for the starting slot next season, this should be a nonissue...just let it happen. Just can't reconcile the two. :dunno: As far as your hypothetical on Dormady getting hurt, and slipping on the roster? Sheriron has already been hurt ...and slipped...yeah.

If either Jones or JG were to beat QD out for the backup spot this year I'm all good with it. Means they beat him out fair and square on the practice field and they give us a better chance to win should something happen to Josh. I thought the results on QD were mixed last year. Showed a good, strong, accurate arm a few times, but then other times showed what I thought was some slow decision-making and a lack of athleticism. Of course, it was a very small sample size on both counts. I'm just saying the spot is his until further notice.
