Guarantano must be liking Tennessee so far

If he's prodigy, why waste a year of eligibility?

I'm just talking about the "controversy" angle. If he spends the fall camp looking like he's nothing short of special it's almost a given people (some anyway) will be perched like vultures looking at Dobbs and his passing.

I'm not saying it's fair or likely...just saying how it could possibly become a controversy as alluded to in the OP.

Freak was joking and the controversy would be such...it's why fans don't make decisions. They tend to make bad ones. :loco:

Let's hope that can happen. I'd love to see him come in next year as a red shirt freshman starter.

I've always been on the JG-train ever since I saw his highlight reel. His arm strength, accuracy, and mobility are unreal. He looks a lot like DeShaun Watson with the style of play he conducts (not saying he is as good currently).

I like Dormady, and it's great to have that depth, but I really think that JG is just better built for Butch's system. I can't place my finger on it, and I could be wrong, but whenever I see Dormady on the field it just seems like I'm watching a completely different offense, because he isn't a proficient runner which seems key in what Butch wants to do.

Yes; Its called 2nd string in late games, we need Dormady for next year JG will still be learning the SEC way...unless he can blow up over next spring after red shirting.

I think the JG will soak in every bit of knowledge Dobbs can give him. I really see Dobbs taking JG under his wing.

If you watch the sidelines during games, it really seems like Dobbs and S.Jones have a great relationship. Jones follows him around everywhere. Dont sleep on Sheriron come 2017

Hope he learns a lot under Dobbs and gains good weight to prepare for the battle for the job next year. Redshirt this year and learn so he can get us to the championships in 2017 and beyond.

Cause even PM wasn't all that great when pressed into action his first year. He could make all the throws and you saw the ability to be great but still a freshman. He was good enough with a great team around him but the difference even in the next year was hugh. Expect Eason to struggle this year even though very talented.

Let's hope the season goes well enough that he can Redshirt. If I remember correctly didn't we have enough talent in 98 to redshirt John Henderson ?

Deshaun Watson was beyond outstanding as a freshman two years ago. If JG is within earshot of him.....

All that being said, unless Dobbs is injured its all a moot point. Nobody's getting on the field at QB if he's good to go.

James Guaratano: I've never seen my son soooo happy ! I promise you Vol Nation that Jarrett will make you PROUD !!!!!!!!

Fall QB controversy?

This kid has a lot of upside and the fans seem to have taken notice of that. Everything you read about him makes him look like nothing but a winner. I don't think there's been this much anticipation about a QB signing with the Vols since Peyton made his choice. I have no doubt that he'll do well for the Vols, in spite of the fact that several Volnation posters are sure to butcher the spelling of Guarantano.

I agree, but don't you think that its strange that he and his father spell their last names differently?

I think JG is the absolute real deal and will rack up accolades with his time at UT. However, I don't think we can really pass judgement on Dormandy and his skill set. He hasn't really been forced to run and he never really played behind 1st string O-line, 1st string RB's, etc.. From the little we saw of him, I thoughts he had better wheels than Worley and just as good if not a better arm.

JG will have his time, I think it will be his job to lose next year (our qb depth is insane right now).

But make no mistake about it - the 2016 vols will go as far as one Joshua Dobbs takes them

Like 85 with Tony Robinson......
