Realistic thinker? It is just a fact. Everyone needs Higgins because he is that good. But, to think our program is going to suck forever because of what recruiting is right now is not realistic. If we win 10 plus or the East regardless, our recruiting will be fine. It will be top 5. If our season is actually meh......then recruiting will be too.
You giving up on Higgins because Clemson has a slight lead is just defeatist. Take that Dooley losing mentality crap and become a Kentucky football fan. On second thought, Little Cat believes in them more than you do in Tennessee. Catbone is more positive than you Steeler man. Two ***** cats stronger than you makes you .....:thud:
From talking to "friends", or maybe more accurately, acquaintances, of Tee's, it seems like he just wants a change of scenery.
I know there's a lot of pressure on him to pick the Vols, but my feeling is he'll ultimately want to move away for a "different" experience.
This is what happens when you recruit big time recruits. Other teams, many of which have had more recent success, are interested and these other teams have good recruiting staffs who recruit well and hard. It is not clear cut where elite recruits are going at all times during their recruitment, especially with nine months to go until signing day. Even Alabama, a team that finishes with the top class virtually every year in every publication, has to battle it out for elite recruits, including up until signatures are on the page on NSD or beyond.
For me, it is nice that Tennessee is finally producing these elite players--Trey Smith, Tee Higgins, Jacoby Stevens, Maleik Gray, Ty Chandler, Hayden, etc.--like Georgia does annually (albeit, with fewer players in Tennessee). If we win big, like expected, many of these players will get on board. If we struggle or do not have the season we expect to have, we will get some, but certainly not all, of the players we want and we may even lose out on a few of the players we really want. And, even if we win big, we will lose out on a couple of players. But, we are going to finish with a good recruiting class because of the staff. If we win big, and I think we will, landing Smith, Higgins, Gray, Chandler, and even Stevens becomes a real possibility and that has all of the makings of an elite class.
The results on the field are going to matter a lot. UT needs to show that it can duplicate or surpass Clemson's recent on field exploits. UT needs to show it can duplicate or surpass other elite teams on the field. If so, this will be a special class.
I hate to be all "Close2Tee" and whatever but I've talked to a friend that is close to this situation and they have stated that Tee will be fortunate if he's academically eligible to get into college at all---much less UT. Academics are a big red flag.
It is early and all but I am surprised we aren't doing at least little better in state so far.

Not to flame you but if his academics were that bad I am pretty sure it would have been mentioned as a concern before now. Second and third hand insider information has a tendency to be people spouting rumor that they heard through an air vent in the football equipment room while they were washing the football teams jock straps and refilling the water bottles for practice. It could be true but more than likely it's just horrible rumor that's been twisted and misrepresented.
