Lady Vols Recruiting Info

Dunbar is from Missouri we had a game scheduled with them up there last year and probably again in two years. Every other university in that state I doubt we would schedule a road game with except maybe St Louis or Missouri State.

It won't be until the Fall, but both are very high on TN & Georgia.

I have a strange feeling they will stay in Georgia, I hope I am wrong! I hope they look at the Georgia connection that already here (although 4 of the 5 on the roster may be gone when they arrive) as one of the reasons to come here.

It's not out of the question they will both be at Georgia. Joni is trying very hard to close the borders and keep in state talent there.

It's working.

I think it should be between the lady vols & SC. Sure they could both stay in Georgia but why? In my opinion Georgia won't be competing for the SEC crown within the next few years so why go there? They sure as hell won't beat SC or Tennessee so they must want to go to a school that's close to home where they can be big fish in a small pond. Do they care about winning or just being stars?

Joni did a great job in her 1st year getting the dawgs to the NCAA tournament but as far as the SEC goes they don't have a chance. I would like to hope SC can be in the mix for both of them but time will tell.

I hope we are pushing just as hard, We need to keep are players in state like dorie harrison and hayes. should be a given. but who knows .. I hope kk and dobson comes to lady vols

I agree! I hope we can land them both (KK and Dobson) as well but my priority would be as followed;

1.) Danielle Patterson from NY-out of her list of Schools our only competition imo is ND (We have to land her as Candace Parker is her Idol)
2.) Hayes-She is one of the top PG in the country and she's a local kid, not to mention I think she has 2 younger sisters who could possibly want to follow in her footsteps similar to the Samuelson sister (although the youngest ended up at UConn)
3.) Dorrie Harrison-We have had 2 of her sisters attend UT and both have had success at their respective sports. We have to land her (I think depending on who gets the Vandy job they might go after her hard)
4.) Westbrook-I think it is going to be tough to get her to leave the state but if anyone has a chance I think we do. We need to find a way to have all the Oregon girls show up to a couple of her AAU games this summer to show her how much we would love to have her in Knoxville. (I don't want to hear about possible violations as Geno for years have had his former players who are now in the WNBA come to the gym and work out with his current players during recruiting visits.)
5.)Ursin-she is 5'7" and can dunk the ball enough said she is also being recruited by Texas, Baylor, and South Carolina.
6.) Greene-She has played 2 years at the JUCO so she understands the college grind and would be able to adapt right away. She can also play the 4 and 5 spot.

Like I said I still want KK and Dodson (Hey if we could find a way to land all 7/8 that would be great although I know it may be unrealistic) I'm just listing my priority based on state and legit chance of landing the players.

We will be losing 3 for sure next year (Carter, Reynolds, and Nunn) and if they have outstanding seasons next year and play to their recruiting level we could lose to more to the WNBA early entry (Diamond and Russell)
which would leave us with 5 returning players when they arrive on campus;
(Name and Year when these players arrive)
Cooper (Junior)
Jackson(Junior)
Middleton (Senior)
Nared (Senior)
Dunbar (Senior)
Harris (Sophomore)

2016-17 is definitely a make or break year for the program and its ability to stay among the elite in the country. We can not strike out on recruiting again.

its all a matter of what these girls do this summer... If they work on their shots, drives and then are introduced to more of a motion-oriented offense, this team has all the making for a run at an NCAA title.

Were also recruiting Sidney Cooks 6'4" Center, Rella Boothe who probably goes to Maryland but maybe our new Assistant can turn her she hasn't committed yet. Going be a lot tougher to get Georgia players without Andy being there. We only need three top players to go with Green and hopefully Corsaro. The time when we used to pick the players we want is over. Holly is not even close to the recruiter that Pat was so hopefully this new Assistant can close on some players.

Mr. Let Me Coach tells us that Carter, Reynolds and Cooper simply need to work on their shooting this summer --under his tutelage, of course--and we'll win a national title! Let's order the trophy! Hello! Carter and Reynolds will be seniors next year: Yea, everybody should work on their shooting all year, every year, and I presume that they have in years past. But players generally don't make dramatic improvements late in their careers. A few do, but most don't.

I cannot count the number of UT players whom I've seen as freshman--and I think, wow, she's got serious potential, could be an outstanding player in a couple of years...and then, nothing. They don't develop much, or the development is very slow and marginal. It was that way with Massengale--she looked to be an excellent prospect as a freshman, but didn't develop. Well,she developed a bit of a three-point shot, which did help--but overall she was a disappointment. Not a good point guard, really, and not a good defender--very average. I have always liked Cooper and her athleticism and maturity on the court--but she's not developed, and her maturity now looks more like timidity, I have to say. I'd love it she became more of a scorer, but I'll be very surprised if it happens. Graves was very slow to develop as an offensive player--too slow. She was an excellent rebounder and got her 10 points a game--but her lack of a REAL offensive game was a team handicap. Reynolds? She's got some size and athleticism and game, but she's inconsistent and her shooting--with her set-shot technique--is not great. Cooper has the same set-shot technique. I'm surprised that kids still shoot that way, frankly.

I hope all of our guards are magically transformed over the summer into demonstrably better players. History cautions us not to expect too much.

Washington Huskies coach Mike Neighbors gets contract extension through 2023 season. So much for those Vandy coaching rumors.

Dear Mr. Eternal optimist,

ALL of these girl need to work on their games. And if not under me, then under someone better than me. They're out there. The talent on this team is arguably still a top four group, so yes I would talk title to them and about them. . . . LAZY and uninspired players are the only ones who can't dramatically affect their game. And that improvement can happen anytime in their life.

The biggest progression should happen between freshman and sophomore because that is when they should be introduced to coaching beyond their HS and AAU influences. It is supposed to be a step up from both, ergo, advancement.

I agree about Massengale. I was not impressed at all with her lack of growth in this system. My PG is not the one I want to saddle with shooting threes... they have enough responsibility running the offense. Cooper's game was much further along than Massengales on day one at UT. The next step for Coop is to understand that she has to depend-on and use girls in different positions from hers,who have the same skill level for those positions. She doesn't have to carry the load she carried in HS. This growth is mental one and has little to do with the advancement of her skills. . . Graves developed out of necessity. There was no backup equal to Graves for that PF role. There is no magical formula for transformation, except for hard-work and work-ethic (The things an athlete does when NOT around a coach).

Regarding me... I am looking forward to proving those who believe in me right and those who doubt me, wrong... It is motivation,, as if I need any more than I am born with.

The reason they go to Georgia outside of being close to family and friends would be to rebuild the program. They are 2 players who are bout in the Top 10 at their respective Positions (Dodson is ranked as the #2 and KK is #5) add that to the other Georgia talent Combs (#5 rank PG), Newby (#10 rank Post), Morrison (#13 rank guard) and you have 5 girls coming in the same class at a school with 8 scholarships. They would be like the Women's Version of the Fab 5. Dawn Staley was able to keep all of the Top South Carolina talent in South Carolina when she arrived and how has that turned out for SC?

A team consisting of;

PG-Combs 5'8
SG-Morrison 5'8
SF-Dodson 6'3"
PF-Newbie 6'2"
C-KK 6'4"

You mean to tell me that wouldn't elevate them to the top of the SEC immediately if they are good as advertisted? That is 5 players in the Top 60 of their recruiting class and I wont include the players from Florida who are also close (LaDaizhia Williams and Rennia Davis), knowing you can go to a school and potentially start right away would definitely intrigue them.

regrettably, we would have to look back on our own past season's talent combination and pre-season ranking's as the example that talent alone isn't the singular qualifier.
