Gender Neutral Bathrooms: the backlash against urinary segregation at UT

Anyone who thinks that either the Charlotte ordinance or the state law were about transgender people is an idiot. That's the extreme example, it is incredibly rare. It was about public facilities not being able to keep gay men out of the men's bathroom.

How funny coming from you......

I agree. It should never have come up in the first place. It wasn't broken, no need to try and fix it.

But Jennifer roberts, leader of the Charlotte city council, against the warnings of even other democrats on the council, brought the issue back up this year when it failed last year...and pushed it through I guess trying to make a name for herself. Now she will get ousted, along with her cohorts, the state has lost many millions of dollars from companies canceling expansion here, lost jobs, lost taxes, and the whole country stuck up our tails all because roberts just couldn't let sleeping dogs lie. Amazing....

Read. LG. This failed last year. So she pushed it thru. State killed it. Now feds blackmail state with education billions if we don't overturn state law to negate local law. Dems started this, failed, started it again...passed...shot down by state...super over reach by feds to get involved at all and bully state leaders. McCrory is former Charlotte mayor. Perhaps last republican ever elected here. He knows charlotte. Grew up here. He knows that it's just a very vocal, very very small minority that wanted to try and fix something that wasn't broken in the first place. Progressives being progressives has ruined this whole thing, and cost the state nearly a billion already in lost businesses. Will probably lose the NBA ALL STAR game too...I hope we do. Screw them if they don't want to be here. Ever seen a crowd shot of the Hornets? It'd embarrassing...when the Hornets were new here 20 years ago they sold out every game. These are Michael Jordans Bobcats...they play in an arena that the city had a vote on whether or not to spend 100 plus million dollars to build them a new coliseum...still had one less than 20 years old...city voted NO to the referendum...DEMOCRATS GAVE JORDAN THE MONEY ANYWAY....most Charlotte residents vowed then to NEVER ATTEND A GAME. YOU CAN TELL BY THE WAY THEY LOSE MONEY.

People with tattoos should be banned from public restrooms. They make me uncomfortable, and it's their choice to get a tattoo. I shouldn't have to share a bathroom with them because they are obviously deviants who defile their bodies with ink. The body is God's temple, and they're painting graffiti on the walls. Heathens.

I don't own Halliburton, so no sh!ts given. Also, I don't really worry about my wallet. I have enough money to last me. If something happens, and it becomes insufficient, I will go back to work. No big deal.

So if misfortune befalls you you'd just regroup and get on with your life? Don't you know someone else is always responsible for your station in life? If you're rich the government did all the work, if you're poor the rich are oppressing you. If life hands you lemons, demand someone else make you lemonade.

I am like you and most posters here. I'll make my own damn lemonade, and drink all that I want. I do contribute some lemonade to worthy causes though, and I am a generous tipper, because people who work hard for little pay deserve extra.

In Charlotte it was the left that passed the initial ordinance mandating a person could use whatever restroom they identified with. I don't recall ever hearing about a problem until that ordinance was passed.

The whole thing is just silly showmanship, by both sides, over a nonexistent problem.

There is a good possibility that your public pension fund owns both Halliburton and Duke.

You will be glad to know that Duke is currently investing $500 million in North Carolina solar farms, and a total of $3 billion in renewable energy over the next 5 years. This will give them 8,000 megawatts of wind, solar, and biomass by 2020.

Duke is also ranked at the very top of diversity hiring along with Verizon, Gilead, and Johnson & Johnson. I own all 4 of those stocks. That makes me a socially responsible investor.

I have no public pension fund, as I'm not a public employee. So you and others like you can't hold that over me anymore in some lamebrained, completely humble, and self-deprecating attempt to win an argument.

Good for Duke. That's nice to hear, and I honestly didn't know that. Now, if they can clean up all the drinking water and rivers they've potentially contaminated over the last decade or two, sounds like they should be good to go.

Your casting aspersions on trannys while giving bio males and bio females a free pass. Because all your fears exist in the current gender segregated bathrooms.

Jesus your thought process is beyond childish. You nor anyone else can give any guarantees that this gender neutral bathroom crap will not make it much easier for sexual predators. Will it stop them? Hell no. But, it doesnt mean we should just make it that much easier for them.

In todays sissified society, it wouldnt surprise me if that was made into law. I think we need to have public safe spaces fo all of the little sissies our society is producing these days. I love your incredibly stupid analogy though. I mean a person getting a tattoo is exactly the same as a man entering a womans bathroom just because he says he identifies as a woman. Yep exactly the same.

People in prison have tattoos. Tattooed people are scary. I'm afraid they might try to rape me. They shouldn't be allowed to use public bathrooms.

Especially those with "roll tide" tattoos.

This is so silly. Let the trans-gendered use whatever bathroom they feel like using. It doesn't matter. I mean I hate the PC-fication of the Western world, but this is really a non-issue. If there was a trans man - or any man for that matter - that wanted to sexually assault or rape someone in a woman's restroom they'd go into that restroom irrespective of the legal situation.

Lawmakers should be spending their time dealing with more pressing matters. Such as balancing the budget and hopefully trying to create budget surpluses, & dealing with policing issues, & dealing with healthcare issues etc. Not worrying about transgender bathroom laws FFS!

I never even attempted to make any guarantee...that's not my burden because I am not supporting either the Charlotte law or the NC state law. If you are supporting gender segregated bathroom laws, then you are the one who should have the burden of establishing that forbidding trannys will decrease sex crimes.

It's sad that the conversation around this topic has nothing to do with the government dictating to private businesses what their bathroom policy is.

People argue over the policy. Whether you agree or disagree with the policy is superfluous. The fundamental issue which should disturb everyone is the government interfering in private matters. If such a policy extended only to government buildings/restrooms, whatever. Sadly, such is not the case.

George Shinn was the owner of the Charlotte Hornets at the time when the the city voted no the referendum to new coliseum.
Hornets on Way to New Orleans - latimes

He ended up moving the team to New Orleans.

and before the Charlotte law there was no problem with it. Trannies used whatever bathroom. Now the issue is in Charlotte that anyone can use any restroom. it has pretty much zero to do with trannies. There was no issue of equality because the trannies could use a bathroom just like the rest of us. now Charlotte wants to give special treatment to them above the males and females.

WTF is this nonsense? Special treatment?

They can use whatever restroom they feel like. As a self identified male I can't. they get to do something I can't, ergo they get special treatment.

The ordinance allowed them to use the bathroom of the sex with which they identified.

Are you not allowed to do the same?
