Florida streak (split)

Do the Vols rebound IF they lose to UF this year with all the hype going into season?

I would like to think so, but at UGA, at TAMU, then Bama would make it tough to pick that momentum back up.

Let's hope we don't have to worry about that. :)

We're they 5 for 5 because of their execution or UT's mistakes. There were 3 UT defenders around UF's receiver on the game winning catch. It just so happened all 3 UT defenders ran into each other.
The point is Florida always makes plays when it matters regardless of the circumstances. In Butch's first year, Florida's QB got injured on a play where he threw a pick six. At that point, most people probably thought Tennessee had the game won. Florida's backup came in and played like an absolute stud for the rest of the game. He sucked in most of their other games that year, but he sure as h#ll played good against us. That is the way this series has been for us.

Probably looking at a season similar to last year's 8-4 if that happens IMO. A win vs Florida springboards us to a big, even a very likely special season. Another loss is a tremendous gut punch that's difficult to absorb, probably leads to a loss or 2 that we shouldn't otherwise suffer.

The best thing Florida has had going for them recently is this streak. People question the direction of Tennessee if they lose this game, but people could say the same thing about Florida if they lose this game. Pressures on both sides in my opinion.

HG, you do understand who you're arguing with right? On one hand, Tennessee had no chance to beat Florida last year, 8 months ago, because the Gators had so much more talent, no even close. But now, a short time later, Florida has no shot at staying with the Vols because we're more talented at every spot on the field. You got that, right?

Does anyone here remember Alabama in '95? Sure, we had not beaten them in 10 years (excluding the '93 game which was a tie and later forfeited) but I never worried about that game for a minute in spite of the streak. It was a foregone conclusion before the season that we would blow them out and we did. I was so confident we would win that game, breaking the streak didn't even feel like that big a deal when it was over. We were better and we knew it. I feel the same way about the Florida game for 2016. I am not even nervous about this game. We will win.

Knew it was over after that first play.

I started to point out who he was quoting but thought that the most insulting thing I could do would be to let him continue to pound his head on the wall.

It's actually kind of sad to see how obsessed some UT fans are with Florida

I don't know. I really can't judge.

I don't know what it's like to lose 11 consecutive seasons to the same team.

I've got to believe that if that did happen, it might be on my mind before the upcoming season. Particularly if it were Georgia or Florida State.

I don't think there would be a Gator fan out there....after having lost 11 in a row to Georgia.....who would say...."it's actually kind of sad to see how obsessed some Gator fans are with Georgia".

I know I'm on the other end of this deal, but I believe the opposite here. If you are not obsessed with the streak, something is wrong.

How about we combine both HG?

OL and DL. This isn't even close. Tennessee has more talent and depth here. There are 4 and 5 star players that are having to wait there turn.

QB. Tennessee has a proven starter in Josh Dobbs and 3, 4 star QB's backing him up. Gators have Del Rio who couldn't win a starting job at two other stops, a talented freshman and then that's it. Tennessee here all day.

RB. Hurd and Kamara make a great 1-2 punch. Florida doesn't have anyone as good as those two. Kelly is a great back-up to them.

WR/TE. If Callaway is back then I'd say it's even. If he isn't then Tennessee has the edge. Even if Callaway is back I'd still take Tennessee's WR's/TE's. A healthy Preston Williams has the ability to dominate if given the chance. Malone and Jennings are highly talented and highly rated WR's. Wolf is better than any TE you have.

LB. Davis is a great football player, very, very good. It is my personnel opinion that he is the best player on your team. But, I like Tennessee's LB's better. JRM and Kirkland are as good as it gets in the SEC. I really like McDowell backing up JRM as well. Tennessee has recruited well here.

DB. This is probably the fastest Secondary that Tennessee has ever had. Blazing speed everywhere even with the 2nd teamers and loads of talent from great recruiting. Gauldin is a super star in the making at safety, Todd Kelly has a great nose for the ball, and Sutton is a great corner and dynamic with the ball in his hands.

Special teams. Not even close. Tennessee all day long.

I agree there are many factors that could be included. OP used his opinion as fact without anything to support it. Reason I asked which factors we're including.

Also I've predicted UT the last two years to win.

Yes.

Nothing out there supports your claim. Tabor has better measurables, stats and was named First team ALL SEC. PFF metrics gives him a higher grade also. Come on.

Wilson was better last year.

Did you boast about picking UT in one post and explain why UF has/had the advantage in the next?
Just gonna let it go, some of you simply induce migraines.

The #1 class vs. #9 class is not close. And if you look at those numbers it goes one year with closely rated classes then 2 years with huge advantage for Florida.

I wouldn't class that equal recruiting levels.

Honestly, I disagree with you on "rivalries" not playing a part. UF has pulled off wins against UT in years that the same Gator group lost to weaker opponents. To me, this implies that they "get up" for the game with us.

But I actually wish to give you credit. This particular post is 100% accurate. You should have started and finished with this and basically dropped the mic.
I do believe that without the rivalry factor, we pull off at least 1 or 2 wins out of the last 11 just out of chance. But talent wise, we shouldn't have.

All those that say there is
no difference between
1-5
No difference in 5-10 and
no difference between 10-15???

That equals
1=5
5=10
10=15

So 1= 15.... yeah,.... no it doesn't.
You are getting extra flack for the culmination of your previous posts and those that "like" any post from a gator fan. ( I swear they could claim Zook was better than Neyland and at least 2 "UT fans" would hit like) But while being inaccurate on rivalries having no effect, you are correct in there being no evidence to support UT "should've won" X number of games other than statistical chance.

Coaching lost that game last yr imo. Our talent was just as good. Had alot of great Sophs. which will flood the drafts for now on.

Florida has juniors and seniors that flooded the draft.

Butch coached terribly no doubt. But we still played a formidable opponent. Remember they blew out #3 Ole Miss the next week 38-10.

There is no question about that. When has Florida ever come out flat against Tennessee like they did Vanderbilt last season? We typically get their best shot.

Actually I never said that. I only countered the argument some made here that we were more talented than Florida last year.

I actually think talent wise the two teams were EVEN last year. Florida's talent was concentrated in their junior and senior classes while our talent was freshmen and sophomores.

I expect us to beat them this year because their talented seniors and juniors are mostly gone to the NFL. While our talented underclassmen are all back and a year older and better.

This.

I'll keep repeating this. Florida had 15 players drafted the last 2 years. Tennessee had ZERO. Yet, they've beaten us by a combined 2 points the last 2 years.

A 95 style blowout is coming. I wouldn't be surprised if we win 42-3 or something like that.

Maybe if the program was any good the last decade or so. But Tennessee has been absolute garbage for nearly the entire streak.

I'll be concerned this year if we lose. For the first time in forever we're the clear favorite. We're at home. And we have the gut wrentching loss from last year to motivate us. If we can't win this year, I might start to buy the supernatural psyche crap some of the weaker Vols fans around here believe.

I'm just not that surprised when a 5-7 team loses to a team that's more talented. And for a majority of the last decade that's been the story of Tennessee.

I'll ake some of that action. You have finally hit the delusional level.
