2016 Election Thread Part Deux

Sure it can.. capitalism is why the country is where it's at today... Everybody knows the economy is in trouble and nobody wants to go to the source to fix it.

As bad as the country is right now, it's a paradise compared to most countries carrying the socialism flag. I passionately love my personal freedoms. The only thing I want right now is the government to stop taking the money I earn and let me live.

Don't like most of his policies but Bernie is pro second amendment. I also agree with him about citizens United needing to be overturned

Thought he was pro gun ban?

Yup.. He is..

"I will take the following concrete steps to reduce gun violence: strengthen and better enforce the instant background check system; close the gun-show loophole; make 'straw man' purchases a federal crime; ban semi-automatic assault weapons which are designed strictly for killing human beings; and work to fix our broken mental health system.
Dec 30, 2015"

Capitalism brings prosperity. Socialism (or what Bernie calls socialism, at least) is just a way of managing it. It "works" when you're sitting on a pile of wealth due to natural resources, free market policies, or exorbitant taxes, like Norway or Denmark. Venezuela and Greece know what it's like when you aren't.

There is no way Americans will accept that kind of tax burden.

There has never been a socialist country. Socialism has nothing to do with the government. Marx never mentions the government controlling anything. Unfortunately that's what it has become known as. Socialism is about peoples needs being taken care of and democracy in the workplace where the workers decide their fate.. like a co op.

Bernie is so much more charismatic than Hillary it's pretty sad. Hillary is such a weak public speaker.

Yes.. if you are one of the few capitalists in this country. Everybody else is just making money for the capitalist... until they send your job oversees and get somebody cheaper to make them more money.

Bernie did pretty well tonight, but he's going to get stomped in the NY primary. It's a closed primary and the deadline to register as a Democrat was in October. I bet a lot of people are going to show up and be disappointed when they can't vote.

Bernie wants free college for all..if we were to tax the 1% at 100% it would raise 1 trillion in revenue...student debt right now is 1.2 trillion..he couldn't even pay for what is already owed now forget free college going forward.

United States. The Economist reported in June 2014 that U.S. student loan debt exceeded $1.2 trillion, with over 7 million debtors in default. Public universities increased their fees by a total of 27% over the five years ending in 2012, or 20% adjusted for inflation.

There will always be winners and losers. The key is making sure the winners win more than the losers lose. If goods are cheaper the consumer wins; because my job is not at risk for outsourcing, I overall benefit. The system has certainly seen more than its fair share of meddling, but I'm wondering what the other viable option is.

Call it a selfish outlook if you want, but that's the way it goes. Republicans have been using similar logic to fight against entitlements for decades.

There are better ways to bring back jobs from over seas. Tax incentives for companies who maintain 90% of their manufacturing and work force in the United States. Just to name one. But, changing what this country was built on isn't one I'm willing to do.

Does the 1.2 trillion figure only consists of public universities? Or does it take into account of private universities as well?

Don't forget about the Super Delegates that will automatically go to Hillary.

If I'm not mixing up my Sanders tax schemes, he plans to pay for the free college plan with a 0.5% Wall Street transaction tax. It would raise the money for sure, but definitely wouldn't encourage further investment. Then again, that's probably what he wants.

This is my first DNC debate. Is it wrong for me to root for Bernie just because I despise Hillary that much?
Nope. Not by a long shot. I even thought about switching parties just to vote for him... against her.... in the primary but I was too late to get the paperwork in.

Most aren't and that's why we will be dealing with bigger problems. They threw credit at it in the 70's to fix the problem(people could borrow so they could buy) and we see how that turned out. Be interesting to see what they throw at it this time. It's only going to get worse cause nobody goes to the source of the problem... capitalism is too sacred of an idea even if it is killing you.
