I am 56. Started coaching for a rec team in 1982 at 22 yrs old... (My niece had to have an adult supervisor... up to that point BB didn't even count as a sport to me) ... Did rec, church and AAU through 2002. Started AAU in 2002. Began with the GA Pistols in 2005 and have been at it ever since. Last full-time gig was a local exposure team... Last two years, working with individual athletes in a personal coaching environment. . . Two years ago it was for a friend's daughter, whose KISL school was so small that they had to use 8th graders on their HS team. She was petrified, as she was one of the two 8th graders being asked to play up. All she was was a body at that point.... I worked with her and a couple of girls from another KISL school too. The other girls' school played for the title last year and the semis this year... The 8th grader playing up played the HS game and turned out fine.... This past year I began to work with a local girl that was 12 and was from Haiti. Never even seen a hard-floored court until last year.She was doing fine, but the family shied away when they saw that moving into the upper echelons of BB means stepping on toes in the process. A fact that seemingly terrified them.

Presently not working with anyone, but working on my future book on coaching girls.

According to Prospect Nation's International Top 25, there are still some quality Bigs left in the 2016 Class. Hopefully the LV Staff is talking with some of these young ladies:

We got a quality BIG. Russell was the top of the heap. ,,,, What we need is someone to teach that quality BIG!

All of the LV's land wrong on a layup... Take Nared's drive to the basket this past game. She took her attack-step. picked the ball up at her belly and flipped the ball from her rib area with no follow... Technically and fundamentally, ,, she should have : picked the ball up off of her hip, released the layup with the shooting hand at its highest point and landed in a box-out (NOT landing in a forward drop. this is where injuries happen. Bad mechanics)..... These LV's are not taught properly in their MS years and they aren't corrected in their college years. It is not their fault they aren't trained properly.

The Pistols were out of the Roswell/Marietta/Gwinnett area for the most part and metro Atlanta (Which incorporates about a 75 mile radius... We had out of towners, but they were mostly for travel teams. When you recruit in ATL, you are pulling from 4M people (metro) already, going out of town is rarely necessary..No, sorry. I do know they played for FBC. Which is a very well run AAU org.

Looking at Tat on Youtube,,,, I see good movement, but I also see she has a tendency to bring the ball to her midsection instead of chinning on a Def rebound. Keeps the ball hi on a OFF reb tho.

They're better coached overseas now than if one of them comes to Tennessee....We cannot develop players with the current staff

I have problems with our coaching, too, but I think they know how to teach proper layout technique. I also noticed the awkward layup technique by Nared--and I think Carter had one that was awkward, too. In both cases I attributed it to poor footwork, which as you know can cause technique issues on layups (and other shots). I hope Nared can become an offensive asset to this team, because we need her. She's got good size, length and athleticism, but she's got to be able to catch and shoot--make shots! It is frustrating to see players who have size and athleticism but struggle to develop an offensive game--Graves being example number 1.

Some of us are called "haters" over on The Summitt...I think the more appropriate word would be "realists"...Warlick can't be given a free pass on the most dreadful regular season in Lady Vol history, or for her lackluster recruiting. I hope they win the national championship...I would love to feast on crow...but I'm not planning to go without eating for the next few days, just in case that miracle happens and I need room to "store" all the many "fowl" that would be so lovingly placed on my dinner table! lol The team has a good chance to win against Ohio State if they bring the same energy against them as demonstrated against Arizona State. I just don't see a win against South Carolina if that matchup should occur...but, hey, South Carolina was fortunate to beat Ohio State very early in the season by a mere 2 points...

Warlick has been over her head since she took the job--that has been obvious in a LOT of ways.

RE South Carolina, they are in no way invincible. In fact, they've struggled to score in a lot of games themselves, and they didn't really impress me that much when we played them. In fact, they were terrible in the first half--not good offensively and we were pretty stout defensively--but we couldn't score either, of course, and eventually lost the game. Maybe one day Warlick will realize that it's not 1985 anymore and scoring 55 points doesn't begin to cut it. We just played our best game of the year, certainly our best offensive game (maybe Oregon State game was as good, don't recall), so maybe it's beginning to click for our coaches and players in the very last games of the year! It's nice to be playing your best basketball in the tournament--but you also don't want to have such a terrible regular season that you get a bad seed to go with lots of bad publicity, which hurts recruiting.

South Carolina spooks me much less than our next foe... We have a "reason" to beat the GC's: They presently hold OUR roost... We have to search for the right reason or "particular" in the prior game to give our girls a mental focus. This is where a coach makes their money. The is the time right now, and up to the moment they hit the floor, where a coach earns their money. Preparation. Self, troops, management. Then, game management.


Its win o r go home, basketball time... My type of play. And the LV's are in AAU mode. . . . Thats why they're excelling... It's like stepping back in time, when they were 13...You can see it...

Nared is in her "Who's lookin at me" form... Graves feeding off of the ones that should have been leading all along... DD is in attack mode. And if you ain't attackin too, get out of the way... Coop is looking for someone to spin around instead of someone to go "through"... Draya is wondering if she should take the shot... Russell - knows its tourney time, the time when she shined most was at that age. win or go home AAU BB, her specialty, so she will bring it until she runs out of it during the tourney... MeMe is riding the pine (Dammit)... Middleton is dribbling on display for all her fans those who came to see "her"... Moore is once again not given an opportunity to shine... Sorry about those not mentioned... And Holly is standing there with her hands crossed, wondering when "that" happened.

Dream Scenario would be KK (Post), Dorrie Harrison (Post), Hayes (PG), Dodson (W), Ursin (G) (she doesn't play AAU but at 5'7" they say she's able to grab the rim/dunk the basketball), Danielle Patterson (Post)! I think this would put us back on the map as far as recruits and give us what we need to compete for National Titles moving forward.

First and foremost, Holly has to prove she can recruit, last year does not speak well. We do not have one verbal for next year. The ladies are playing well right now but will Holly fall back into an error filled offense that has been a disaster? There are a multitude of questions surrounding this staff's coaching abilities, that many recruits may want answered before signing a letter of intent. In addition, competing coaches have a litany of negatives they can use which can and will leave questions in the minds of recruits considering the Lady Vols. As we have been use to for the last years, Holly does not come off very well during interviews or when she talks about the game. During interviews she comes off as being very uncomfortable and nervous. The best thing Holly can do for the recruiting program is, beat Ohio State and make it to the elite 8. If, and I say this with the utmost hope, the team make it to the final 4, this would be the biggest recruiting shot in the arm. It would be an almost impossible scenario, but anything is possible in the world of sports.

I graduated in 1977... Had an afro that touched the top of a door-frame I was six foot... Wore a A light blue leisure suit with a silk shirt to my formal... And gym shorts that would embarrass a pole-dancer..... Nope, can't say I would step back into that time... I'll stay here.:crazy:

My goodness Baylor is going to be loaded the next 4 seasons! If they land Chasity Patterson, look for Baylor to be a Final Four regular. Baylor, Notre Dame, Maryland and Louisville will be loaded the next 4 seasons.

Since the additions of assistants Sytia Messer(former Assoc HC GaTech, HC Tenn Tech) and Toyelle Wilson (former HC Prairie View A&M) Baylor's recruiting has shown marked improvement the past two seasons. Mulkey and Bill Brock have always been good recruiters but the addition of these two ladies have helped raise the bar.

When you have that the zone has to stretch and that opens up the inside game. No one respected nor should they have our three point game this past season. Were at 27 percent and that makes teams want to pack it in tight and challenge us to make some threes. Holly chose not to use Dunbar when teams did that and it probably cost us three or four games.

No love for UCONN... In fact, can't wait for them to drop a peg or two...Just expect our team to be on that level .... UT shines equal to ANY program....Geno/UCONN notwithstanding!


Further, I hope this team truly overachieves and lets us see our David and their Goliath go for it.... When the rubber hits the road, I willshow my colors.

If you can say yes to those questions, it isn't the gun.

You HAVE to be able to shoot the three with some consistency and make about 5 a game, at least, if you expect to be a really good team nowadays--because if you can't, other teams will. This is how UConn and ND have got so good--they make a lot of threes. Do WE have the guns? I have my doubts. Dunbar can shoot the trey but the coaches opt not to play her for other reasons; you've got be able to contribute in a lot of way to play--not just shoot from distance. DeShields? She has struggled with her outside shooting all year. Reynolds and Cooper? They've both got fairly funky shooting techniques--not exactly textbook. Carter and Middleton have pretty good form and could be better--but Middleton doesn't play much and I think Carter's minutes have decreased lately as well. Would better coaching and better offensive schemes help with confidence and shooting? Probably. This is one reason why our scoring is anemic and we lose games.
