Lady Vols Recruiting Info

There are eight recruits listed for the class of 2017. Is there mutual interest or is this a list of the players Holly is pursuing? Have all eight ever expressed an interest in Tennessee? If so, is there still interest from all eight, especially considering Holly's performance and the team's rather tumultuous year thus far?

A lot of top recruits want to be part of a program that can compete for a national championship. Do these players still feel that could happen at Tennessee (currently ranked #32 by Massey)? Other players are looking for a strong coach who can help them develop their skills for a professional career. Do they see those qualities in Holly? Others want to be part of a close-knit team of supportive players for four years. Does the team chemistry currently at Tennessee support that? Others are looking for a top-notch quality education. Can Tennessee offer comparable academics to Duke, Stanford, and Notre Dame?

Many factors go into a recruit's decision. Just because a coach is interested does not mean there is a mutual attraction. So the $64,000 question is: Are all eight of these young ladies interested in Tennessee? Have they updated their lists recently?

To put it more simply: Why Tennessee? What does Tennessee offer that other schools do not? When Pat was coaching, the answer was obvious: Go to Tennessee, play for and learn from Coach Summitt, and win one or more National Championships. What is the answer to that question today?

My hope is: 1. since there are so many more good recruits these days- a lot of these girls will not want to settle for going and sitting on the bench of a (ie) uconn, sc, or os.
2. they would like to go to a team where they can help rebuild a dynasty and not have to wait 2 years or more to play.
3. They love the University Of Tennessee as much as I do!! and enjoy playing in front of a crowd of 10,000 adoring fans.
4. They do not read some of the comments left on this message board lol:D

South Carolina is expecting 18,000 on Monday night!

Free sandwich coupons puts a lot of butts in seats!

Interesting quote (sure it's been posted before but worth repeating):

“This isn’t some subliminal message I’m sending to them where I expect them to read between the lines,’’ said Auriemma, whose team was defeated at Stanford (88-86 in overtime) on Nov. 17. “This is very flat out. (It doesn’t matter) if you’re the national player of the year or the greatest thing that’s ever walked the face of the Earth playing basketball. There’s a certain level of play that I’ve been accustomed to at Connecticut. If you’re not there, then you’re not playing.

“You either live up to the standards that have been set here at Connecticut or you don’t play. This is the world we live in, so they better grow up.’’

Cheridine Green 6'3" forward ASA New York JC is probably the best post player in Junior College this season. She is averaging 21 points and 17 rebounds per game while shooting 60 percent from the field.
All I can say is recruit her Holly a player that could make a difference next season after Graves leaves.

I wonder if those 2017 recruits were watching the A&M game yesterday. I can only imagine what they must be thinking. Maybe they were too busy with the Super Bowl.

Didi Richardson to Baylor. I think she is a point guard. Anyone have input?

My goodness Baylor is going to be loaded the next 4 seasons! If they land Chasity Patterson, look for Baylor to be a Final Four regular. Baylor, Notre Dame, Maryland and Louisville will be loaded the next 4 seasons.

My biggest issue is that currently we do not stand one iota of being in the final 4 question unless Holly improves as a recruiter and coach. Last year, at this time we had this recruit and that recruit and ended up with zero recruits. I just do not see anything about Holly that says, "I will bring in great players and then coach them up." We need to face reality, Holly is not in the coaching or recruiting league with, Mulkey, Genno, Friese, Waltz, McGraw or maybe even Karen Astin or Staley. Hope is great but you have to be real, no matter how much it hurts.

If we do not sign a big class with some big time players for 2017, we are doomed and will be left in the dust. There are some Elite players in this 2017 class and we need to sign our share desperately.

I got off the Holly train about two months ago, but I think we really have to wait until after this recruiting cycle to make the judgment about this staff's recruiting acumen. They are in consideration for a number of the top twenty-five players and several of those in the top ten.

If the staff whiffs on the 2017 class (which I don't think will happen) then such a declaration would be warranted. However, if they bring in one or two top ten players and three more in the to thirty or so, and, more importantly, some glaring needs (post players) then I, for one, am willing to see how the next season goes before calling for a complete changing of the guard.

She's more of a Wing.. a good one at that. We were trying to get her as well but Baylor really is locking down the elite talent in state..

Thanks for the info. The Baylor people seem really excited about getting her both because she's good and because they want to "own" their state. Understandable.

And do they hate ATM; still aren't over having to play them 4 times in one year. That's understandable too.

Looks like she signed with Texas listed as 6'1 guard
2017 Five-star recruit Didi Richards commits to Lady Horns or maybe this is not the same person.

Throw in Texas, south carolina and Uconn and the lady vols, unless recruiting drastically improves for 2017, are definitely going to have a hell of a a time getting back to a final four for a long time. This season might be their best shot compared to the next four or five seasons...

Dorie Harrison 6-3 do we have a shot ?

Got this from baylorfans.com:

Her name is Deauzya " Di Di " Richards, 6'2" from Cypress Ranch and Alexis Morris from Beaumont may not be far behind.

Cara Ursin the 5'7" Guard from Destrehan, Louisiana, Class of 2017 has narrowed her choices to Baylor, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.

Baylor is supposedly on the short list ( no concrete source) of Vivian Gray of Argyle, 6'1", #14 in the 2017 Class.

6'1" athletic wing. Only question I have heard is her 3 point shot, which is usually a key weapon for our wing players to possess to open up space in the paint. She appears to have all the other pre-requisites in abundance.

eaTme just lost to Free Shows U 74-56 on their home court in Collie Station, 74-56.

No aggiettes or Louisville in Dallas this weekend...some "Revenge Tour" this is turning out to be.

Bet youall have a good time anyway:).

But I did want to see Baylor take Lville down.

And thanks for the info on the recruits.

I would think so especially since her sister played for the Lady Vols. From my understanding, Tennessee is in on some highly rated players. We have to sign the 6'4" post player out of Georgia and her 6'1" team mate. I think Tennessee is going at those two really hard. As for other recruits, I have no idea. I unsubscribed from The Summitt months and months ago, so I really have no idea. MTSU Raider is a good source and is close to the AAU circuit.

Surely, Dorie Harrison will commit to the LVs. Two of her sisters played for UT (DeeDee volleyball and Izzy).

++++++++++++++

I am sure MANY would love to play for the ""Lady Vols""".... But they would have to play for a coach who has lost a ton of respect from the Volnation, players and exposure coaches.

I know there will be a lot of jumpers who jump from fire Holly to she's the greatest just because of this two game tourney performance. But not this ol coach... Nope. I still remember the season! It sucked.

I have been a LV fan for more than 30 years and a coach for just as long. Right now I would have to consider sending a recruit to HW. UT yes, Holly NO...Its not that I have a personal vendetta for HW, it is simply that the players she has got have not only not grown, they have gone backwards... tournament notwithstanding !!! ...

What is driving those girls right now is tradition... Until I see consistent hi-level coaching throughout the season, I will not be impressed. . . Winning these two games was absolutely necessary for the LV players, coaches and fans. Many said they would not reach the round of 16. BUT NOW...Here, NOW, is where the rubber meets the road. The LV's were projected as the #4 program when the season started. This is based on last year's end run and this year's roster. Neither of those changed.

The Holly lovers are all gaga over this run. But not the knowledgeable fans. We know where this program should be. Top 4 = top four.

proof:

Pre-season top 6:
UCONN
SOUTH CAROLINA
NOTRE DAME
TENNESSEE
BAYLOR
OHIO STATE

UT was #4... Here's the link to the pre-season poll:
2016 Women's College Basketball Rankings and Polls for Week 1 - ESPN

PPost season top 6:
UCONN
NOTRE DAME
SOUTH CAROLINA
BAYLOR
MARYLAND
OREGON ST.

OHIO STATE (#9)
TENNESSEE (#32)

Maryland, a late entry is out. the rest are in play.

Of the preseason top 6,,, All are left in the field.
The poll was right, right from the gitgo.

I KNOW these girls can get to the 8 and potentially the 4 (We can beat SC, we have a rich tradition of doing so)

With that said,
Finish, lady vols.
Don't fall into the "good enuff" doldrum... WIN!

Dream Scenario would be KK (Post), Dorrie Harrison (Post), Hayes (PG), Dodson (W), Ursin (G) (she doesn't play AAU but at 5'7" they say she's able to grab the rim/dunk the basketball), Danielle Patterson (Post)! I think this would put us back on the map as far as recruits and give us what we need to compete for National Titles moving forward.
