Completely different for basketball than football.
Vanderbilt fans actually support the BB program. Like it or not the Vandy gym (with it's weird set-up) is a plus. It's a hell of a home court advantage. Vandy (I believe) is the second highest paying BB coaching position in the SEC.
While Nashville is not a big enough draw for recruits to come here to play football, in basketball it definitely is.
the "should be" vs "could be" is not at all a far fetched idea. As a TN fan, I would love to dominate Vandy in every area, but it probably will not happen. They have a better baseball program than UT does and they should be a premiere basketball program too, they have a lot going for them in that aspect. If they actually hire a good coach, they will be a Top Tier SEC program.
Now excuse me while I go puke.
I hate Vandy
Barring significant injuries, they will have a valid argument. Expectations are high, because our schedule and roster set us up to win big this year. We play UF and Bama in Neyland, and UGA has a new QB and a new HC. Our toughest OOC game is a very beatable VT, we draw aTm in the West, we return almost every starter on both sides of the ball, and we finally have quality depth at virtually every position.
This is the year to push all-in. We'll lose a lot of key players next year.
This was kinda my point. What has vandy basketball ever done in its history other than be "pretty good" at times. I think sometimes people have the perception that their basketball program is historically better than what it actually is because compared to the rest of their programs (again, recent baseball not withstanding) it has been better. I DO think it's much easier for them to be competitive in hoops than it is football.Hey BB, you know what the all time basketball series record is between UT and Vandy? 117-74 in favor of UT. The UT home record is unbelievable, and Vandy only leads UT by 15 games in Memorial.
But, I think I understand what you are saying. Compared to football, there is no reason why Vandy shouldn't be very good in basketball. UT has just been better.

Agreed, but when you compare most programs to their football program they will look good. And i think their basketball program has been exactly that, pretty good. I think with the right coach they could be really good, but you can say that about almost any power conference school. When you compare their basketball program to their football program the basketball program looks pretty darn good. It's all relative.

Who after that?
I could argue Vandy is the 3rd best job...in the state. Several programs have flashes of good history, but the next few are interchangeable. Having said all that, Vandy is unique, and I love their gym. It's quirky, but has a Hoosiers feel to it.
Lol easy man, i wasnt attacking you. Comparing Georgia to vandy isnt helping your argument any. Stallings hasn't always been their coach and they've never been a basketball powerhouse. Compared to the rest of their programs (baseball being the exception) , the basketball program has been solid. A great coach (Corbin) can make a program. So, if they hired a great coach they could be a powerhouse, just like most other programs could under the same scenario. Im just saying I don't see what they offer that says they "should" be a powerhouse.
I'm legitimately asking if you have any other reasons to think they should be besides what was already mentioned?
I wasn't intending to be condescending by the way and I apologize for coming off that way. It's sometimes hard to tell someone's tone on a message board. But i also didn't insult your intelligence like you did mine by saying I'm ignorant to all things that aren't UT.

You and I think a lot alike. Great minds and all.
The A&M game scares me. Away game and they're such a Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde type team.:hi: Ranked in the Top 15 preseason and predicted to win the SECE carries high expectations. If we go 10-2, the second loss will probably be UF or UGA-- and either could derail a trip to ATL. Team 120 has a lot of upperclassmen-- and they want to win.
First off. I apologize Laager if I took your post out of context and for my rebuttal which I'm sure was a less than desirable response. :hi:
I won't get into the argument or try to prove my point, because quite frankly, it's Vandy and I don't really give a sh** if they ever do anything well. All I am saying is in basketball, like with baseball, Vanderbilt looks different than it does to football recruits. I will also say that if Vanderbilt fires Stallings, that coaching position will garner some looks from some really good coaches.
There is plenty of info out there, I'm just not inclined to spend any time looking for it.
Sorry for derailing a thread with discussion of our turd of a little brother school.
