Cue "recruiting suffering" meltdown, in 3... 2...

My "edit" was a post regarding that very thing then decided it wasn't with it. If these kids are good enough for Butch, they're good enough for me.

It's obviously wayyy too early to judge recruiting but all we heard last class was "this class is going to be small & not as highly ranked so we can load up in 17 & be picky & only choose the elite". Time will tell..not off to the best start

Probably the greatest sports moment of my life. My family went absolutely berserk when he was called safe at the plate.

My mom has never been a big sports fan, but even she couldn't resist the allure of the Braves during the 90s. When they lost the World Series that year, getting ready for school the next morning was like getting ready to go to a funeral.

yeah, I was a huge Braves fan then. (SID BREAM: and down the stretch he comes..) After the strike, I totally lost interest in the sport.

Favorite sports by a landslide is college football. I had watched Peyton Manning team NFL, but now I am lost.. then Vols Men and women basketball.

then farther down than that... I like to watch the Masters and British Open (If Tom Watson is winning) I like Kentucky Derby---Triple Crown stuff. NBA Atlanta sometimes...

This is something I've actually been thinking about lately. I hope he's able to get that leg strong enough that it doesn't hold him back too much during the season. Anyone have any insight on how long it might take to regain strength levels after an injury like this?

Two years ago I suffered a spiral break of my right fibula at the ankle. Operation to fix it included eight screws to hold the bones together.

Good news, the bones healed in 7 weeks & cast came off. Bad news, it took two more months for the sprain to heal so that I could walk without a crutch. Problem was that after a total of 4 months off the leg, it took a long time to get my strength back. Started hiking & hitting golf balls, but right hip would hurt, shoulder would hurt, etc. It took a year before I felt that I was completely back with my golf game.

Of course, I was 67 at the time, so hopefully Tuttle will heal faster than that. :)

And mine. I was a huge Braves fan as a kid. Going back to the days of Dale Murphy when they were pretty awful. I played little league, collected baseball cards, and watched the Braves go from awful to great. Stupid Kirby Pucket; Hrbek's pull. Stupid Blue Jays. Stupid Phillies.

Then, the strike hit. They won it all in 95, and I didn't even care.

Does anyone remember the memorable Georgia-Tennessee basketball game in the 1960s? IIRC Tennessee missed their first shot, then Georgia came down the court & held the ball at center court to play for the last shot of the quarter. Score was 2-0 or something like it after first quarter. Obviously, the game was low scoring, but Tennessee won the game. Games like that led to a shot clock in NCAA & NBA.

Football has a play clock; even PGA golf warns players when they are out of position (about one hole behind). Golfers are penalized if any shot takes more than 40 seconds when they are on the clock.

You can see where I'm going with this. Baseball desperately needs a play clock. Baseball was my favorite sport when I was growing up, & games were routinely two hours or under. Now, pitcher & catcher seem to have unlimited time to screw around, changing signals, etc. Batter gets tired & tense standing there, steps out of box, etc. Just throw the damn ball, already! This has ruined the game IMO.

Anyone who likes baseball nowadays, also likes a 4 hour picnic too. That's fine, but it's not for me any more.

I am not a huge Braves fan, but one of my best friends is a lifelong Braves fan. He suffered a lot during the 70's and 80's. I got to see that game with him and I was very happy for him and it was a terrific game to watch.

I know it's still early in the process so no flaming. But...

There was a lot of chatter last year about how we potentially had a #1 class in 2017. Not only are we behind a few other top 10 programs in commitments, it's hard to see how we'll even end up in the top 5 with the players we're pursuing (according the Volquest). Ohio State has an incredible class already committed. Alabama also has a great start. I see some 4 and 5 star players in our pipeline but I also see players we missed on.

Honest questions: Were people overly optimistic? Did we lose some guys we thought we should get? Or do you guys think we can still contend for a top 5 spot?

I've been following recruiting for 10 years or so. I've seen years where the early hype was justified by the pipeline and results (Jalen Hurd's class, for example). It's hard to connect the dots between the 2017 hype and potential results. From my perspective, there's a strange disconnect.

GBO.

I had just moved to Atlanta and my company gave me 4 tickets up in the box to give away to customers. That year you couldn't give tickets away until midway through the season. Then they all started calling me and begging for those tickets when the Braves were making their run on the Giants. I remember I was sitting down behind 3rd base with my best friend when Sid slid home safely against his old team. It was so close but when the ump signaled "Safe!", the place went crazy! I believe it was Andy Van Slyke who just slumped and sat down in the outfield after that and stayed there for what seemed forever. We later went down to Buckhead that night and were just walking down the sidewalk and everybody was hanging out their car windows and high-fiveing us and everybody else around. Probably was the best sports moment I ever witnessed in person.

I think it's still possible to contend for a top 5. Obsviouly starting out strong is preferable, but it's still possible to make a big jump during the season/NSD. See Texas last year as an example.

Other than Rodgers, who we didn't have exactly the best shot at, and Richardson, who reports say we have a few higher on the board, we haven't really lost any big recruits yet.

If we saw some kind of combination of Higgins, Gray, Fant, Bonds, Stevens, Gibbs, all start committing elsewhere then I think it might be time to start worrying.

But this was always a class that needs to see results on the field start to materialize, so I don't think it's necessarily a bad omen of things to come that we did come out of the gate with a bunch of studs.

We. Have. Almost. 11!!!!!. Months. Until. Signing. Day. Commits are not commits, actually, they are current commits. "Current" implies that they could change. And, they will. I can almost guarantee that every team that has commits listed right now will not sign all of them. Many may not sign half of them. Still early. Very early. Our season will be telling, in my opinion. Win, and they will come. Lose, and some still will come. Serenity, for now. The time to worry is still a long way away. No pre-worrying is allowed in my house :)
