Recruiting Forum Football Talk XXV

This is the first Recruiting Forum Football Talk thread I've followed from the beginning and I have to say, I'm amazed at the broad range of content of it all. That being said, I think baseball is great to go to, but I can't watch it on tv. It's fun to go have a couple cold beers, a hot dog, watch some fireworks, and just relax a little. Maybe I'm spoiled because I only go when I can somehow get access to a box. :)

Just. Wait.

Football is obviously the best to watch, but baseball forever holds a special place in my heart. There's no other game I'd rather actually play than baseball. It's called the game of kings and I revere it as such.

Baseball is boring on TV. I played as a kid and enjoyed it growing up but have no interest in watching a 4 hour game with 20 minutes of action - unless live at the park which is always nice.

It's not the "thinking man's game" anymore as football coaches run circles around baseball managers.

To be fair the average length of a mlb game in 2015 was 2:53.

Regular season MLB and minor league baseball is about a hot dog, ice cream with the kids, and or a cold beer. It's much more about the experience than the game on the field

Mlb Playoffs and college post season is where the real attraction for the game on the field is.

I'll make an argument for baseball.

I love baseball. I love the smell of freshly mowed grass. And the sound of a baseball hitting a glove. It's the sound of my childhood.

Unfortunately, I think baseball is a casualty of 21st century "instant gratification". The slow pace and nuances of a good baseball game are lost on this generation. I still keep score when I go to a major league game. The break between innings is used for fetching a hot dog and beer. Or to talk with your neighbors about the new pitcher they just called up. Or to tell your son why they sweep the infield between innings. Or to talk about dinner after the game. Or whatever.

My 2 cents.

Actually GOING to a game and watching one on TV could not be any more different but, I agree on everything. I loved going to Sounds games growing up and, the few times I've been able to go, there's very few sporting events I enjoy more than going to a Cards game.

I loved playing too and, now that I can no longer play competitively, I appreciate it even more.

Still........watching baseball on TV is agony.

I love baseball but I would love it more if there were announcers like the great Voice of The Cleveland Indians Harry Doyle on the air still. His commentary was fantastic and educational.

Growing up I hated baseball.

Only sport for me was football.

Then my son started playing Tee ball. I have now coached baseball and watched numerous games.

I now truly appreciate and love baseball. I wish that I had played... :hi:

I hated it too, because my dad and granddad ruled that every baseball game ever broadcast had to be shown at our house, constantly.

But ... fortunately this is a football thread.

Now that was a fun bracket. Didn't know all of the folks, but if this doesn't end up with Stephen A as the winner, then something is wrong with America.

Stephen A Smith, Skip Bayless, & Jemelle Hill all have a reserved spot on the Mt Rushmore of annoying.

Bayless is the worst. Followed by Jemelle, she is just so, damn, stupid.

I love football, especially college. It is an exciting, strategic, crazy display of Army style discipline with fantastic athletes. Explosions and graceful leaps in the same play all over the field. Testosterone raging at their highest levels. Great combinations of speed, strength, agility, throwing, catching, etc. Only the strong survive. It can be enjoyed both at home on TV or at the game.

Baseball is summer. The sights, the sounds, the smells, the food, favorite beverages, the crack of the bat, the gymnastics of great fielding, the pitching strategy, the hitting guessing game, the synchronized movements when the defense controls the ball while the offense hits it and runs is so mesmerizing - at the game. Not so much at home on TV until the playoffs.

If you really understand both sports, you know that the skills, player development, game strategy, etc. are both very complicated. With football, more injury issues and adjusting to radically different styles of play of opponents with more players from both teams on the field. In baseball, arguably the most important player only participates every 5th game on average. It's like having to field 5 different QB's every 5 games. The monotony of so many games wears on the mind and heart as well as the body; so rosters with players with strong mental states that maintain great focus and durable bodies despite the grind tend to win more.

I will never forget the Big Red Machine in 1975-76. Arguably the greatest combination of hitting and fielding that has put a cleat in the soil in modern baseball. I also will never forget Joe Montana and the 49ers. Pioneers of a different, West Coast offensive style that moved the game forward in a much different way with a QB that could perform magic.

Love them both for different reasons. In today's world, football is king in America. Baseball is king internationally when only considering the two sports.

Maybe I'm weird, but I really enjoy all sports even if I'm not the biggest fan. I don't watch all of them with religious fury like I do football, but I keep up with most. Must see non-football sporting events:

Daytona
Masters
French Open
US Open (golf)
NBA Playoffs
Wimbledon
British Open
PGA Championship
MLB Playoffs
Olympic hockey
World Cup soccer
Olympic curling

Olympic women's beach volleyball
