Everyone knows we are in a bit of a recruiting lull, but I can't fathom how anyone thinks this is a long term problem.

Butch has restocked this roster, on the back of 5-7 (Dooley), 5-7, 7-5 seasons. If you think he can't keep it going when we are winning 10+ every year... you need to re-evaluate some things.

Is Brad Matthews the guy that pissed of Butch about North?

If so, he tweeted at me yesterday so I am considering a deletion of my twitter. No I didn't tweet him.

Good receivers

NFL safeties

I know WR is more questionable depth it seems than safety with all we have on the back end. I know that may have changed things but someone real close told me that about Jennings earlier this year and I still think these coaches think NFL safety with Jennings as well. Him at WR is not a done deal from what I know.

During the press conference Monday Butch said Jennings was going to stay at WR "right now" maybe 4 times.

I have a feeling it will come down to a combination of how they feel about the safeties as a whole, the WRs as a whole, and Jennings' improvement at WR relative to the two position groups.

Getting Malone back and can Shoop turn Gaulden into a monster. Croom moving to TE says a lot about the confidence in the WR group to me. If Jennings isn't believed to be top 3 in the WR group, then not moving him to safety is complete squandering his safety potential, where he could be an impact every down on defense. Maybe my opinion of his safety potential is unrealistic, but I think he's the best one on the team especially now with Shoop. Elite defense even more elite. Add Tuttle and JJ and it's basically a rock solid NFL defense with not a single weak spot. 2nd team blocking WR with 5 or less touches per game is criminal.

I just think there are a lot more factors to it. There's still a depth issue at WR, whether he's a starter or not. He's one of 4 WRs returning who had a catch in 2015.

So what happens if, say, Shoop and Martinez feel really good about safety at the end of the spring with TK JR along with Abernathy, Gaulden, and Griffin (not really counting Berry since he's out), but Jennings finishes the spring 4th on the depth chart (which likely won't happen with Malone being removed from the equation)?

Even if he's not in line to be a starter, being 4th best is still significant because he's just one man away from being a starter. Our WR core has been about the most beat up unit on the team since Butch came to Knoxville. So even if Jennings isn't top 3 at WR, he could still be really important to the depth there unless one of the summer enrollees comes in ready to tear things up.

This is the scenario I feel like will pan out, FWIW (though I wouldn't be surprised if Jennings steals a spot from one of the expected starting WRs). As great as I think he'd be at Safety, I think the offense will need him more in 2016, even if he ends up behind Malone or Williams on the depth chart.

I see him being moved to safety if he doesn't show enough improvement at WR for the staff to see him beating out George, Callaway, or one of the other newcomers and/or the staff feels they need a talent boost in the secondary that can't be provided by Warrior or Byrd coming in the summer.

Got to like the reports of Dobbs throwing accurately down the field. This is the only missing link to a dominant offense headed into the season.

Prob stays. He looks like a stud WR in highlights. He looks much more comfortable and like a WR now

Man. That is exciting. What if we just start destroying everybody when the season starts?

I'm getting feels

I love that left side lineup of Richmond and Boulware. Beastly.

Breaker dropped those Kirkland highlights earlier and fired me up too. He's already in the upper echelon of talent on defense. And Kahlil. We've got young guys emerging and coming into form.

Butch's classes have now pretty much filled out our roster at this point. Mostly. And the final picture looks like it's going to be very good. It could potentially be great.

It's not even going to be about overcoming the odds anymore. We have the guns to fight in all kinds of ways. Any way you *****es prefer.

Go VOLS

I loved this part from an article on Rockytop Insider.

"History Lives on: In the history of its program, Vanderbilt has never beaten Tennessee three times in one season. That streak lived on. Tennessee moved to 9-1 all time against Vanderbilt in the SEC Tournament, the last loss coming in 1951."

Hahahahhahahah

Any chance you see the Vols get on a roll and enter the Bama gasme undefeated and he see the "results" he's looking for and go ahead and jump on the train? Also, has he visited on game day yet?

I think it is more likely than possibly that we are undefeated going into bama week. I think those heart breaking losses last year forced our players to learn how to finish. I think we have a talent, experienced group of upper classmen that won't let us get off course.

That's kinda the way I see it. I'm trying to keep my expectations in check.

I've been getting this weird feeling that we lose 1 of the two back to back road games but beat both UF and Bama and go 11-1.

Go Vols!

A&M is a hard game to judge. They imploded by the end of last season, and losing their QBs is a huge hurdle, but they have all of spring and the offseason to figure that out.

Regardless it's a very winnable game, but it could range from USCe type team to all we have to do is play not terrible to win, or it could be a game where we have to play well on the road

I hope it forced the coaching to stay aggressive the whole game also.

I hope we bring more than 3 or 4 men on defense on 3rd/4th and 7+.

Preferably 5, 6 sometimes.

Rather get beat by bringing pressure and making the QB make a good throw.

It is a tough row of games without a bye. If I had to pick a loss out of that stretch, it would be TAM. that way we beat Florida, Georgia, and Bama and play in the sec championship game hopefully against an Ole Piss and make up for that TD big gums scored on us late.

I agree on A&M. They've been so unpredictable. At times they've looked fantastic and at times they've looked terrible. I would expect their defense to improve in Chavis's second year, but the QB situation could really hurt them. They should have a really strong O-line and a solid group of WRs to help that QB out though. I'm leaning toward thinking we win that one, but nothing would surprise me.

Just a word of caution on your comment. Replacing Brian Randolph is huge. It is really tough replacing his knowledge of the defense, his ability to read offenses, his 4 years of experience, and most importantly his play calling and leadership. I'm really excited about this year's DB talent. It's the best we have had in over a decade. Just don't be surprised or disappointed if there are some learning curve issues.

I thought Randolph was more of a liability. Same with McNeil.

We should be much better at safety this year with better athletes playing the position.

Huge upgrade to the position IMO.

Abernathy and Gaulden are getting rave reviews at safety as well. Throw in TKj, Berry, Warrior, Griffin, and (maybe) Byrd, and it's easy to see why Shoop said yesterday that he thinks safety (a position some have projected to be weakness) might end up being a strength.

I was never really buying the Jennings to safety talk, but now it really looks like we've shored up our depth issues there by moving Gaulden and Abernathy and getting some nice wins on the recruiting trail. I think Jennings is at WR to stay, and I'm excited about his potential there.

Offensive lineman from Grace Christian named Nick White just committed to Tennessee on the radio. Anyone know if that's a scholarship offer or is he a preferred walk on?
