Shoop prefers the Star position in passing situations, which means one of the OLBs will slide out from the base 4-3 to cover the slot receive in passing situations as a hybrid OLB/SS hybrid. This would likely mean McDowell or A. Smith I would think.

Smith getting some looks at DE.

Sapp at safety would be a desperation move...and it's not needed.

Last year...after it was thought that McNeil was done for the season...and even after we lost Randolph for targeting, wasn't used in that capacity. Wasn't arguing against using him at STAR...just at the split time at safety part.
