The meltdown that is happening on the Vandy message boards

And from the same thread:

But we know what you say isn't true. To be competitive you don't need 4 star OLs, QBs and WRs. We have never had that yet we had a great three year run, Bobby Johnson went to a bowl game. You can compete in this league with less than that but they have to be coached correctly. I have faith that CDM is the guy, but this year is huge.

Stars definitely matter and you have to recruit at a high level if you want to compete for conference titles in this league, but we can be very successful year-in, year-out (read Northwestern), without huge recruiting.

And people wonder why everyone else makes fun of Vandy's (lack of) football IQ.

I can't believe 2 SEC teams lost to them this year.

How do you take pride in your team, look at yourself in the mirror, wear the SEC logo, and lose to Derek Mason's Commodores?

Mizzou was a mess all year so I'm not surprised at that one, but UK should be really ashamed. Even though they lost they were still a better team than Vandy. That was a straight up choke.

the first part of that post and the second part of that post don't jive. The stars don't matter, but they matter

And the part about the "great three year run" haha. Didn't they finish in exactly the same position in the East as they did under Franklin? So was this also a magical run?

Yep. For all the praise Franklin gets, he never finished above 4th, and Mason's 2-6 SEC record matches Frankin's first year 2-6 SEC record. Franklin's other 2 years were 5-3 in 2012 and 4-4 in 2013.

Also the difference in this year and Franklin's first 6-6 year is like I said, that year Vandy's OOC opponents were terrible. The best one was Wake Forest, who finished 6-7.

The SEC teams he beat were abysmal as well.

Terrible Kentucky (3x) and Tennessee (2x) teams
Terrible 2-10 Ole Miss team in 2011
Terrible Auburn team
Terrible Mizzou team in 2012 (that was missing its starting QB)
Injury-plagued 4-8 UF team in 2013

He only beat two SEC teams with winning records (UGA 8-5 and Ole Miss 7-6).

All of his OOC wins were a joke as well. His entire tenure at Vandy was smoke and mirrors.

I'm rolling at Vandy's NSD announcements on Twitter. Tennessee, Georgia, etc all announce 4-5 star guys and Vandy's announcements are like "Welcome 4 year starter WhatsHisName!!" You can tell they are trying so hard to find good things to say about them.

"See, I never just did things just to do them, c'mon I mean, what I'm gonna do just all of the sudden just jump up and grind my feet in somebody's couch like it's something to do? Come on, I got a little more sense than that...

...Yeah, I remember grinding my feet into Eddie's couch."

I seriously want to know what ESPN uses to get their rankings. They don't count juco's but yet still have us at 15(same as 247) without kongbo. WHat really has me confused is how they have Vandy above Mizzu. I haven't really looked at Missouri's class but how many unranked players could they possibly have? I know 247 gave the Vandy guys 2* just to give them a ranking but according to 247 missouri doesn't have a single player under 3* while vandy has at least 2 and probably more but 247 bumped them to 3 because they got an sec offer.

Their class sits at #58 on Rivals right now

Bless their hearts. Vandy had their claim to fame for a 50 year time span a couple of years ago. I can now rest at ease and know that if I close my eyes for the last time tonight another 50 years will pass before they beat us again.

Mason and David Williams know that Vandy isn't beating UT again for the foreseeable future. At this point they will be focused on winning 4 cake OOC games and beating Kentucky, Missouri, or South Carolina to reach a bowl.

That's a great season for them and probably where the program will peak under Mason. Getting to the Birmingham Bowl and losing to USF or Tulsa.

This little jewel is straight from their "Recruiting day central" thread.I quote:

Coach Mason went after Vanderbilt men. He sees no need to inflate the recruit rankings by signing a bunch of guys who have no business on a university campus.

This is how you justify a lousy bunch of diamonds in the rough, under the radar type guys. Typical vandy.:loco:

I loved this one from that thread:

Right now the Western Michigan head coach is on the Scout/SI recruiting live talking about how they were able to keep a prospect from Vandy and power conference. Saying "We're real" he says.

Ummm, you do realize you are informing the world about getting beat out by a MAC team for a recruit?

But this one takes the cake and made me chuckle:

Vanderbilt is one place where 5-star punters should always consider, because they will get more opportunities to punt than any other place in the SEC and probably in the Power 5.

That's called "reality."

He won 9 games twice, at Vandy, and they could play with anybody. Give it a rest, you guys just look silly at this point.

Good question, I am bumping it hoping someone can provide a good answer. It is very confusing. :dunno:
