Me too. This makes me want to post the misses I've had in my own predictions of prospects. Here are the guys I thought would have big careers at UT. Laugh with me at my own stupidity.

Every school has a list this long or even longer. Yet all these kids think it's a straight shot to the NFL with not a worry in the world and nothing's going to stop them. Every coach recruiting them is telling them the same thing.


And then life happens...

I missed the segment with Danny Parker of Scout but I just heard Beano (filling in for Basilio) recap it.

In Beano's words... Danny thinks that we sign Warrior and Kongbo. Danny also feels good about landing Tyler Byrd. He's not sure on Brown but feels we will land 3 of those 4.

Every rival SEC fanbase (and even national fanbases) is under the impression that Jones/UT are a joke...until UT beats their team.

South Carolina fans admit Jones is building a monster. Kentucky fans do. Even Vandy fans. Common thread is that we have win streaks against those teams.

There are a few UGA fans who give the Vols respect, but most see last season's loss as more reflective of them losing Chubb and Richt being over the hill. In their eyes, Smart will easily dominate the Vols.

And with Ole Miss/Arkansas/Auburn/Florida fans, the Vols are basically dirt. They will never be relevant again and Butch Jones is only a season or two away from being fired.

Going to make it all the better when Tennessee wins 10+ in 2016.

Don't worry about it. This happens with every recruit. I mean every one. There is always someone who thinks a guy is the next big thing.

Any recruit, no matter how talented, can derail for any number of reasons.

It's pretty funny how many next greatest things we have. But I'm not the prognosticator type. To each his own. :pardon:

It is my view that the average ESPN watching sports fan is tragically less informed than someone who watches zero sports.

Just because one passively watched a game, or dozens, or even hundreds of games, doesn't mean they understand anything. Ancient man watched the sun rise and fall for thousands of years before it was understood that the sun wasn't revolving around the earth. Of course, there were systems in place then, same as now, that violently resisted change. If a man suggested that the earth wasn't the center of the universe, he was claimed a heretic by those vested with controlling the narrative. ESPN is no different, that's why they hire former players who use meaningless stats to drive a conversation instead of statisticians to find meaningful stats to inform the conversation.

My best friend is a big time Bammer (I know, I know) who is actually pretty well grounded and objective, and he is very impressed with Jones. Texted me the other day and asked if I was finally ready to be back at the top of the SEC. Thought he was messing with me, but he was quick to clarify that he thinks our time is now and we scare him more than any other SEC team. TIFWIW IMO JMO GBO

Ask Bama players which team they would have least liked to play again last year, most would say "Tennessee."

Ask them where they're least looking forward to playing this year, a lot will say "Neyland."

We're not an easy W for anybody this year. A strong recruiting class will put an exclamation mark on that.

guy i grew up with is a big time bammer fan and he will tell you right now that Tennessee scares him the most right now also.

Agreed. Bama fans are probably the most objective about it because they aren't in a position of paranoia about their own program. They remain solidly #1 in CFB.

UF, UGA, Arkansas, Auburn, and Ole Miss fans all have big question marks about their teams, which could easily be surpassed by UT in the near future. So it makes sense that they are adamant about how much Jones/the Vols suck and will continue to suck.
