That's funny as hell. And also accurate.

It's amazing how the presidency ages someone the way it does. I understand it's one of the most stressful positions you can imagine. But bush and Obama bit went from somewhat youthful to death quick.

We need to revamp our entire immigration policy but the first step is to take a realistic approach to the illegals here now.

1. Revise birthright citizenship to require that at least one parent be a citizen at time of birth. Just being born on US soil shouldn't equate to citizenship.

2. Give amnesty to current illegals with some qualifications: a) must prove they have been here at least a year b) pass criminal background check c) be employable d) probably could come up with more

3. Amnesty would not mean an automatic ticket to citizenship. They could stay and work with a green card type program but they would not be eligible for citizenship (ideally never) but a 10 to 15 year wait instead of the current 5 years for legal immigrants. There has to be a penalty for entering illegally.

4. Anyone caught entering illegally after that will be automatically and immediately deported. No exceptions.

5. Stiff penalties to include prison for any employer hiring an illegal.

#5 is all you need to do. The rest would take care of itself.

Although it is really hard to keep up with his views, and find any real substance in anything he says:

My interpretation of the latest trump plan, was more of a perpetual blanket amnesty post wall/fence being in place. I do disagree with you on birthright citizenship. I'm personally a fan and believe the "anchor baby" rhetoric is overblown, and they're wasting their time trying to fix something that doesn't happen that frequently.

I agree with most of the rest. I'm not certain how feasible some of it is. For example: proving you've been here for a year. I think a better idea would be giving illegal immigrants a window of time to come forward and be accounted for (maybe 3-6 months?) and then began deportations for those with criminal records and fines for those without after the window has closed.

agreed. If employers face stiff penalties by hiring illegals, then illegals will have no work, and thus there is no reason to be here without a job

I DGAF about Trump's plan. Trump doesn't have a plan.

Of course he does. He plans to say whatever he needs to say to get elected.

Within the past 6 months he's stated that he wants to deport all illegals, and that he also supports amnesty after he builds his fence. So he speaks out of both sides and says whatever is necessary at the time to pander to the given audience. That's the plan.

Not if done correctly. Reagan put the cart before the horse. You don't give amnesty before closing most of the holes in the border.

I go back and forth on it. I could agree to increased number of NG troops at the border. But I don't know if I could ever support a fence/wall. Like I've said before:

Fences are as effective at keeping people in as they are keeping people out.

That's OK. We can help them out.

Not really. There are many illegal owned companies. There is no citizenship check when opening a company. Many of these companies hire a mix of illegal and legal workers to maintain an air of legitimacy. They maintain inadequate workers comp insurance. They pay less in payroll taxes than they should. They can do this because their is no enforcement of immigration laws unless a criminal act is committed and even then a felony is usually required for deportation.

But it's so much easier to protest Walmart or Starbucks or MacDonald's.

Donald Trump Is Shocking, Vulgar and Right - POLITICO Magazine

As someone who grew up where Tucker is talking about. He absolutely nails it.

Even canny operators like Ted Cruz didn’t appreciate the depth of voter anger on the subject. And why would they? If you live in an affluent ZIP code, it’s hard to see a downside to mass low-wage immigration. Your kids don’t go to public school. You don’t take the bus or use the emergency room for health care. No immigrant is competing for your job. (The day Hondurans start getting hired as green energy lobbyists is the day my neighbors become nativists.) Plus, you get cheap servants, and get to feel welcoming and virtuous while paying them less per hour than your kids make at a summer job on Nantucket. It’s all good.
