You think a running QB can sustain that kind of success for 15 years?

I mean, Peyton threw for 55 TDs at 37 years old.

15 might be stretching it, but if that running QB is 6'6 250 I think he can do it for around 10. And what you sacrifice in longevity is made up for by being able to construct a better team.

Basically my opinion is that if you're building a franchise around each of them, the team around Peyton will probably have a longer title window but the team built around Cam will have a better shot at winning during his window.

Who had a better first year in the pros?

Cam threw for more yards and 9 less picks. What now?????

It's simple that Newton was better coming out. Say what you want but the stats don't lie.

Manning came through high school and college in an era when quarterbacks and pitchers rarely lifted significant weight because it would "ruin their throwing mechanics" or make them muscle bound and inflexible...

I don't know the finances of an NFL franchise with respect to the various revenue streams, etc. But, you aren't considering another aspect. Not only do we already know what Peyton's career on the field looks like, but we also know what his career off the field looks like. We know that he sets up Foundations and gives generously to the city where he plays. We know that because of these things, we can sell #18 jerseys like hot cakes all across the country.

I know for a GM (not the owner, though) it comes down to wins, losses and championships. But there is more to consider in this riddle of who would be chosen as your quarterback when building a franchise.

Peyton is definitely great at all of those things, but it's not like Cam has been anything but a model NFL player. A quick Google search showed that his foundation fed over 900 Charlotte area children and he spent Christmas volunteering with kids. And that his foundation is very active in the Charlotte area

I guess Russel Wilson and RG3 came into the league better passers than Manning too.

Oh and Matt Ryan. Jay Cutler.

We could go on.

In fact, RG3 could apparently throw circles around Manning.

One good year and all of a sudden cam is better than one of the greatest QBs of all time? You are off the deep end on this. It ain't about who is the better specimen. Peyton has forgot more about offense tgan cam will ever know.

Mizzou's DL coach that they just hired already poached by Philly.

They are headed towards Vandy status really fast.

I also saw yesterday that USCjr hired Florida's strength and conditioning coach to be their Linebacker coach. I thought that seemed weird.

The arguments for Peyton are based on knowing what he did over the course of his career. We can't compare apples-to-apples as Cam is in the early stages of his career.

Here's the real question...knowing how Peyton's career turned out, would you take him after his 4th year, or do you go with Cam based on his tremendous athleticism and promise?

Don't get me wrong, I would absolutely take Cam for Super Bowl 50 over Peyton.

But this is silly.

Option A: This qb will give me 5 league MVPs, record career wins, record career passing yards, record career passing tds, record season passing yards, record season passing tds, take 2 teams to the Super Bowl multiple times, take 4 coaches to the super bowl, first ballot HOF, unquestionably a top 5 qb ever to play the game.

Option B: This qb has had 1 great year, a couple not so great years, tremendous athleticism and promise but that's all I know.

The Recruiting Forum thread has been hijacked again. :ermm:

Shouldn't this stuff be the Off-Topic Recruiting thread?

The title of this thread is football talk...talking about and comparing the two starting QBs for Super Bowl 50 seems to be pretty much football talk...

Totally on topic if you ask me. :hi:

Thinking about how the program is setting up against the SEC. All Butch has to do to sustain a long period of competing for SEC titles is design the team so that they have their best shot to beat UF and UGA consistently. If they do that they can beat everybody else on the schedule including Bama. His D will excel now that it exploits match ups and does it from the base 4-3. That makes it about recruiting players that can hit UF's and UGA's weaknesses. Both have Saban tree coaches so there will be approach and system similarities. He recruits much better than both of them. He also clearly has a system that causes Saban problems, that he continues to tweak and improve.

Looking good long term, gang

Uhhhhh........I think you posted in the cooking forum. I've been lurking for some good ideas for supper tonight or tomorrow's breakfast. All these people up in here want to talk QB's, and I'm 'bout to starve!

I never did get to post my thoughts on fried chicken and waffles...

You can't compare Newton to Manning in anything..... Newton may be great some day, he is big, strong and athletic. He has a ways to go to even be mentioned with Peyton in the same breath of air. Peyton's career is at its end, 18 years of pro football. Cam is just starting his career. Peyton has done a hell of a lot for football in general. Not to mention everything else, that's just an added bonus. It has been a pleasure to watch Mr. Manning through college, and the NFL. I for one hope he pulls this game off and rides into the sunset a Champion.
