Jump shots are our game. Most of our jump shots were open. We hit them early. Every time we went the hoop we got blocked or mauled and they weren't calling them.

Sure they are, but not early in the shot clock and not after one simple pass with everyone standing around. They were settling for threes and being lazy on offense because they had the lead. When they weren't turning it over that is. It was really bad offensive basketball, and it kept leading to fast breaks. Barnes should have called a timeout. That lead was gone way too fast.

I agree with may other posters here when they say that they think a lot of this will be sorted out once we get some more size in the rotation.

Of course. Size will help. But you don't have to be tall to put pressure on the defense and be aggressive. And if Hubbs could make a 5 footer, that would help too.

They shot five free throws. That's so weak.

I agree I thought they did shoot early in the clock but also the times they worked the clock they had to rush even worse shots. They were protecting the rim and made us try to beat them with jump shots. We couldn't knock them down. If we had a post up game that would negate some of that.

Ehh, our shot selection was horrible actually. Mostly really bad jump shots and no offensive sets at all. No attempt to attack the basket.

I thought defense was worse. Also, no rebounding.

Offense was ok. Can't watch Moore turn it over at the high post anymore. Or Hubbs miss a bunny.

I hear you. That's my point though: it was just really tight and bad offensive basketball down the stretch, and we should have called a timeout or two.

Oh well. Not a huge surprise. The team is extremely limited. Just stings to give games away.

Yep. Frustrating to say the least.

Defense was definitely bad. A lot of standing around and second chance points.

And yeah, I cringe every time Armani gets the ball. Dude is just a disaster waiting to happen on offense. Id much rather see Mostella on the floor.

Barnes is a typical Texas coach. He did less with more the whole time he was there. I don't expect anymore from him here.

Seriously. Everytime Mostella puts the ball up I feel like it's going in. Would love to see more of him.

He has half of Texas' NCAAT appearances...in its history. 17 of 34. I am not saying he is the best coach ever, but the man did something right. Texas basketball did not have a great history when he got there.

I'd be thrilled if he did half of what he did at Texas here too. He didn't exactly inherit a good roster here either. We've done better than I thought we would given the shortcomings there.

I realize we're replacing 2 starters at S next year but if any team has a stock of DBs from which to find a suitable safety, my money is on us. Should have a tremendous amount of talent next year.

You realize he's coaching with a pretty terrible roster, right? At least give him a year or two to flip it before you declare him a perennial loser at Tennessee.

LOL, he's got a team full of SGs and SFs with no PG or any Big men.

He is making the proverbial Chicken Salad right now IMO.

Other Notes:

if Justin Martin works on turning his head more to locate the ball he'll have a huge year for us. And possibly be gone early. The Alabama game he showed a level of physicality you don't see much out of CBs.

Kirkland was lights out over the second half of the season. Really played at an elite level. He's in on a lot of plays. Was easily JRM's equal at LB late in the season.

TKjr is also a big hitter at this level. And he will be even better as a junior. He and Berry(who hits very good as well) will be dangerous over the top. Won't be many passes going over their heads at all.

I personally hope EMoseley has gained a lot of confidence after getting that pick versus Northwestern. Dude has some tools to work with if he would just lock in and believe in his technique. Plus locate the ball better.

Foreman will be very hard to keep off the field. Dude was playing as good as anyone on the defense over the last 6 games. He's very physical and tough in the running game as well. Gaulden will have to really take that position back. Kid doesn't get near the respect he deserves on this board.

On offense: if we can get the Malone/PWill combo from the UGA game we'll be in business passing wise. They both made big plays in that game(catching and in the running game).

So, barring injury, my personal opinions on the team next year (not that they mean anything :) )

We return:
The best RB duo in the SEC
The best rushing QB and top 2 QB in SEC
Top 2 (in terms of depth and talent) on the DL in the SEC
The top kick and punt returner in the country
The top punter in the SEC
Top 2 LB core in the SEC
The most experienced OL we've had in years
A very talented secondary (but still raw at safety to an extent)
A top 3 TE in the SEC (who is severely underutilized)
Top 2 rushing attack in the SEC
Talent at WR (but still a few question marks there)
3 of the top 10 defensive players in the SEC (JRM, Sutton, Barnett)

Not to mention:
DeBord's play callin REALLY improved towards the end of the year and the offense was rolling.
We brought in one of the best DC's in the country.
Best overall special teams play in the country.
Most talented depth across the entire board we've had in years.
A team hungry as ever to kick down the door and be elite.

Anything short of playing for an SEC Championship and being in the playoff discussion would really be a let down

All great points. You might be the second brightest football mind on this board after yours truly.

👍

Can't say I disagree with a word.

Quality posting. 👍

Good to see I'm influencing a move toward positivity.

My positivity in that post not only has no bearing from your regularly outlandish opinions, but I'm debating on deleting it just because you think it might have any association with you.
