Nothing wrong with thanking God for success or being in a great sitiuation. I don't think all really mean it, but some are genuine in praising god.

I assumed he was talking about from a fan's perspective. I love my Vols, but will never pray to God for a Vol's victory. I'll pray for good health for the players though.

I agree. We always prayed before sporting events when I played. It was, never for victory, but for safety and sportsmanship.

Have always been scared to pray selfishly.

Because sometimes when I go to "brunch" I don't know if I'm going to order lunch or breakfast. Just depends on the menu.

You can have breakfast for lunch and it still be a lunch if you prefer. Just one of those things I guess...

But I do enjoy the midday snack of lunch or breakfast. Sigh.

It doesn't bother me. Just assuming that god cares about who wins college football games is laughable to me

It could very well be (and more than likely was) that the young 17-18 year old man was asking for a sign in relationship to him making a decision that will be taking him away from home and have some kind of ramification on the rest of his life.

I'm not a very religious person anymore (my own personal reasons) but the idea of asking for help and a sign (whether from God or a counselor or or a friend) seems like a logical thing for a young man to do with a decision that will affect the rest of his life. He's leaving home....big decision.
