That's what I was thinking-An "in home" is only with the head coach. Other visits by staff don't count. But, like I said, I could be wrong
Yeah that's what my first thought was but I haven't looked into rules that hard so idk. Pretty sure Thig visited Josh Malone and then later Butch got police escort to visit Malone right?

UM fans aren't allowed to complain about anything Harbaugh does. He will win them a national title or at the very least make a couple playoff appearances if he isn't called back to the pros in the next 2-3 years.

Yes there are more than one visit allowed but for blue shirting it doesn't matter

One visit by any coach makes the kid recruited

I will find it but it will be tomorrow
Alright then I look forward to it. If you're really going to look make sure you're looking at the newest version. Have they released the 2016 version? Each year around 50 pages are added from what I've heard and rules are tweaked

Lol

I am going to use the NCAA website

I am not going thru the book itself

Hmm, I remember hearing this before but I've never seen any concrete proof this is the case. Robertson blue shirted and I remember he had a lot of contact with the coaches. Not sure if he ever got an in home of any kind tho

Will find exact rule number here soon but here it is.

NCAA definition of a Recruited Prospective Student-Athlete

Actions by staff members or athletic representatives that cause a prospect to become a recruited prospect at that institution are:

A. Providing the prospect with an official visit.

B. Having an arranged, in-person, off-campus encounter with the prospect or the prospect's parents or legal guardians for the purpose of recruitment;and

C. Initiating or arranging a telephone contact with the prospect, the prospects relatives or legal guardians on more than one occassion for the purpose of recruitment and

D. Issuing a National Letter of Intent or the institution written offer of athletic related financial aid to the prospect (excluding summer term awards prior to inital full-time enrollment).

To be eligible for a blueshirt, the NCAA mandates that a student athlete NOT have: 1) an OV to the school, 2) an in-home visit from the school’s coaching staff or 3) a LOI.

If the player has received none of these three things, he can receive a blueshirt the day after fall camp starts. He can be given a scholarship on that day and forward-counted to the next year’s recruiting class.

Edit: NM. Bruin posted the info while I was typing.

Link doesn't work for some damn reason

Here it is with rule number

13.02.13.1
Recruited Prospective Student-Athlete.

Previous Cite: 13.02.13 Recruiting. Next Cite: 13.02.14 Representative of Athletics Interests.
Actions by staff members or athletics representatives that cause a prospective student-athlete to become a recruited prospective student-athlete at that institution are: (Revised: 1/10/90, 1/11/94 effective 8/1/94, 1/10/05 effective 8/01/05, 12/13/05)

(a) Providing the prospective student-athlete with an official visit;

(b) Having an arranged, in-person, off-campus encounter with the prospective student-athlete or the prospective student-athlete's parents, relatives or legal guardians;

(c) Initiating or arranging a telephone contact with the prospective student-athlete, the prospective student-athlete's relatives or legal guardians on more than one occasion for the purpose of recruitment; or

(d) Issuing a National Letter of Intent or the institution's written offer of athletically related financial aid to the prospective student-athlete. Issuing a written offer of athletically related financial aid to a prospective student-athlete to attend a summer session prior to full-time enrollment does not cause the prospective student-athlete to become recruited.

Cool well I guess that settles that. I'm going to look into some rules myself when I have some more free time. So who is a good candidate to bs in this class right now?

The hard part for us is knowing exactly if these kids were visited or not.

I have always worried about the "arranged" phone call part of the rule. Very gray area and a way I could see an Oliver or a
Kid like that crying foul to the NCAA

IDT we'll blueshirt anyone this year, unless we have a flurry of last-minute commitments from our top prospects. We don't want to forward-count against a stellar 2017 class, unless it's for top talent.

I've not seen it mentioned, but does Sheriron Jones's departure now open up a spot for us to back count one of our EE's?

No...you backcount EEs when you sign less than 25 the previous class. Butch had larger classes these past two years due to his first class having 21 and Dooley's last class having 22 (I think). Our EEs this year didn't backcount.

Thanks.

Michigan fans are up in arms about Harbaugh's recruiting tactics.

Eh he's not much worse than any other coach.

Not at all. But they say "that's not how Michigan does things."

Harbaugh be like:

The Lord has him and all is well now. But it breaks my heart thinking about him being cold and scared. I have a 2 year old grandson and they would have to bury me with him if that happened.

I'm not sure we can believe much that comes out on this yet. If true, the search area was way too narrow if they had not had a thorough search only 1.5 miles away in the first two days with all of the volunteers. Our 2 year old could and would easily go that distance in a situation like that.

Prayers for all. So tragic.
