Did UT Treat Jancek Unfairly?

I see it from both sides but it's funny how people are freaking out about getting a new DC when probably the same people were calling for his head after the 3 blown leads this year.

Kind of surprising considering the defense just had their best game of the season. Sure Northwestern isn't a powerhouse but they still were shut down by our defense.

The three blown leads resulted from 1. the defense, 2. the offense not staying on the field, and 3. some strange in-game coaching from Butch Jones.

This was already decided before the bowl game IMO.

Jancek and Martinez were both fired at UGA by Mark Richt

Willie Martinez, John Jancek & Jon Fabris Out at Georgia

And what happened to Richt this past season? Not trying to be smart, but Universities and even coaches can make bad decisions. I blame our offensive play calling for a couple of our loses. If you are protecting a lead, you milk the clock. We didn't do that and sent a worn out D back onto the field. Not to mention Butch making a couple boneheaded time out calls.

The same Northwestern team that ranked 115 in total offense. Our defense played a solid game, but they weren't scoring against anyone this year.

Swain said this morning that the primary issue(s) for letting CJJ go had more to do with things off the field. Said at one point, "you have to be able to get along with your headcoach".

Something had to have gone really bad. Jancek,Strip and Mahoney were pretty much a package deal. All (include Lawson in there) were packing their bags for Knoxville when Butch became official.

Georgia"s defense wasn't a problem this year. I had no problem with Jancek, but MY job ain't tied into his performance. If Butch felt this move was needed, I don't see how any of us could have a valid counterargument.

That fits with what Mathews said yesterday, when he noted Butch and Jancek were "butting heads" for much of the second half of the season.

Some of us were chastised for saying Jones would have to part ways with Bajakian and Jancek

It's actually annoying having to listen to Butch now talking about upgrading the DC position while he initially said we had the 'best staff in America'. Obviously it's impossible to upgrade on the best so he can't have it both ways. Sure, people will say it was coach speak back then - but those of us who don't like to be treated like idiots should be able to point that out without idiots calling us idiots. :)
In other words, every once in a while it's just fun to say I told you so even if it accomplishes nothing and nobody wants to hear it. :hi:

So, now the bowl win and 9-4 season are forgotten, and it is back to Butch-bashing time for the Negas. Can you at least wait and see if the replacement is an upgrade? Or can you you just not help yourselves?

I wonder if Jancek had the kahoonas to call out Butch on his timeout management during the Florida game?

P.S - maybe Jancek didn't get along with anybody, including the players.

You need to get over that...it's ruining your life. :)

Were clearly crucial mistakes in that game. That being said, Butch's coaching got better throughout the year. If they didn't convert on the 4th downs, it would be a non-issue

I have a feeling that Jones was pissed about the florida 4th down TD and probably put a lot of heat on Jancek this year about the defense--and Jancek probably didn't like getting heat, especially when our REAL problem in the OU and Florida and Bama games was our PATHETIC offense. Jones is under a ton of pressure to win--and I'll bet that he channeled a lot of his pressure to JJ. I am just speculating, of course--but given the high stakes SEC environment that Jones is now in, I could see something like this scenario. You aren't going to beat anybody decent not scoring in the second half.

I think it's more likely that a clear upgrade made interest known and we'll be taking that upgrade.

It should be clear by now that what CBJ means primarily by "best staff" is not a sum of the best individual parts but, rather, the best "sum of individuals", as it were. If it's true that the relationship between CBJ and CJJ has been dissolving (I don't know if that's true or not but many claim it is), then that creates a negative and toxic environment that is not good even if the two individuals are the "best" at their respective positions (which they are obviously not that).

In other words, given the popular narrative of a rift, your claim is wrong and CBJ is simply being consistent to his values.
