Why all the hate from memphis fans?

Did I miss something? Whats the deal...? My mom and Dad, aunt and uncle all did undergrad at memphis State and graduate school at UT. I have never looked at this as a big rivalry for obvious reasons I guess.


Anyone have the inside scoop on the jealousy?

Anybody from West Tennessee including me will tell you that we are the Red Headed Step Child of the state.

Memphis has a Napoleon complex when it comes to UT. At least Vandy can say they have superior academics.

i just spent a few minutes looking through the forums at memphistigers.org and i have to say that they are the saddest, angriest fans i have ever seen. all they do is complain and insult other schools and their fan bases. i almost feel sorry for them.

This forum is not the most respectful thing I've ever seen in reguards to other schools.

Ding, Ding, Ding...we have a winner.

I have a been a VOL fan my whole life, but the attitude and arrogance of the VOL fans on THIS board and around Memphis has me pulling for the Tigers to take the Vols behind the woodshed.

The thing is , I don't have a problem with people jawwing about whose team is better, but to belittle the intelligence of someone b/c of where they obtained their secondary eductaion is, well, dumb.

how do you call yourself a VOL fan when you are wishing for them to lose. You my friend are a poser. There is no way on God's green earth i would ever wish the vols to go behind a woodshed unless we were the ones taking the team back there. unbelievable.

From the outside, it looks like "disturbance of the natural order." Tennessee had football; Memphis had basketball, so things were pretty quiet. OOPS! Not true anymore.

Kansas had a quiet, non-rivalry with Kansas State. We had basketball--hadn't lost there since 1983. They had football--Kansas treated football as something to do on a nice Saturday while counting the days 'til Late Night in the Phog.

Then KU actually got a real football team and KState went out and got Huggins and Beasley. Trust me, things are no longer friendly. You're just lucky you don't have Memphis guys on here corrupting every thread the way we do!

1. Yep, a poser, I traveled all the way to Berkley just b/c I am a bandwagon fan..you got it.
2. I have never been a big basketball fan; UT has been a Bball school for what - 3 years now?
3. If you take the time to read the whole post you would understand where I am coming from; I never thought I would want the VOLS to loose at any sport - but hey things change and the attitude of the fans around here (that seem to have showed up in the last 3 years) is just pathetic.

I know what I said and I am proud of it. I just responded to the title of this thread, my response was aimed at some, NOT ALL, posters on this forum or all VOL fans. Some are very respectful and those are the ones you love to have.

It is just funny to me that people here are offended by the reaction of memphis fans, but go back and dig up some threads from the football season and you see the exact same thing...I am sure LG and Gatorbait will tell you that they laugh their arse's off around football season.

Didn't We beat Memphis by 16 - 17 points last year?...And everybody here is wondering how We will be able to stay with them and compete?...I believe we proved last year we can run with them and compete....In fact We smoked them...I honestly do not see what the big deal is lol...so they are #1...Lets go in there and just get it done...Simple as that

Why the hate? They are stuck at a mediocre school, whose only claim to fame is a basketball team coached by the sleazy John Calipari---the rest of their athletic program sucks. UT upsets Memphis on Saturday baby!!!1

Give me one documented situation that Coach Cal has done to make him "sleazy". Seems to me its jealousy on your part! Just because he led a mid major to Final Four (Umass) and coached in the NBA????

BTW!!! Upset???? When the #1 RPI team and #2 wins ANY game, is it really an upset????
